I was wondering how everyone decided what to call themselves. It amazes me people spend all the time and effort skilling up someone called chuckles the livestock molester.
I always call myself something that begins with Max because its less to type in local. So I opened a dictionary at max saw maximal and then added I and S at the end to make it look more sciancefiction-ish.
There must be some really good ones out there. Come-on guys make me giggle like a naughty schoolgirl.

I played SWG and got Epegi Givo from the name generator (SWG makes really good sci-fi names)
But now that i don't play SWG anymore, what i do is a mount the keyboard on the wall, take my Nerf Longshot, and empty two clips into it.
Change some of the letters around so it is intelligable, then add in a space for first/last name. And voilla, you have your charecters new name

My character name is a ***** joke.
ONE person has made me aware that they identified it as such in three years. When I created this character I didn't actually intend to play Eve past the trial period. We see how well that went. I didn't even cancel my subscription during the four months I wasn't training any skills or logging into the game during the winter of 06/07 ffs.
However, since it took three years for anyone to say anything, I adapted the name in an RP-related way. Since completing pod pilot school my character has been known by the callsign Bjorn "Dirk Magnum" Magnusson, Bjorn Magnusson being the pre-jump clone name naturally. It jived with the Minmatar theme as well as helping to explain away the fact that my character's name is otherwise ridiculous

I had a really annoying FC once.
"Hey.. HEY.. HAY YOU THERE at top of channel, NUMBER FIIIIVE pindizzy, can you go scout 'nextsystem here' for me please NUMBER FIIIIVE pindizzy." Even after I whined at him about it.
I was gritting my teeth a lot that night. Yeah ok it's the name I chose but he put so much damn emphasis on the 5 and just 'spin' or 'dizz' would've done.

I usually just start with a letter, then add more at random, until I get to something that sounds nice to me. That is how I came to Kawea, my main.
Nostoc on the other hand is a word that was just bouncing around in my mind at the time I needed a name for an alt. You should google it to learn something new  , but I guess it's quite fitting for the purpose of this alt.

My first character was intended to mine, thus I chose the name of a nearby coal mining town. With my trade character I used the surname of a highly controversial financial figure in my country.

Spurty is the only online game name i have ever used.
Seriously, if you see a 'spurty' playing a game with you (outside 0f eve), fairly good chance its me.
my scout alts are some faint attempt at memorable/comedy. My buddy account main is my sons names concatenated.
never really put any effort into naming.
I'm more engineer than artist... infact, I've no artistic traits at all lol.
I build stuff and break stuff. Pays ok ;0

I tried for "Starbreaker" and it was already taken. So I added my RL nickname, Joe, and I actually liked it better. As an added bonus, people call me "Joe" on teamspeak or ventrilo, and I know that they're calling me. No need to memorize your pseudonym.
On the downside, I've almost introduced myself to RL people as "Joe Starbreaker" a few times. So far I haven't slipped up, but someday I will and it'll be hilarious for everyone else.

I called this character after one of my wife's gerbils. She said I spelt i wrong but I know that Banana doesn't have an apostorophe in it. Sadly the little gerbil passed away, but of couse was replaced, so my next character will be called Steven of Nine!

Let's see, there's this guy, my main, who I used my first boss's last name for. Even managed to misspell it. Why'd I use my boss's last name, cause I used the name I'd wanted for the character for the account. Oops.
There's Chef Brian who is shamelessly stole from the Ctrl Alt Del webcomic. I figured it was ok since I was in the only fancorp for the comic at the time.
And then there's Nakayohi, Izurumi and Mogudan. Its the name of a Japanese doujin circle and the two artists in the circle.

Well... before I started playing EVE I spent alot of time on playstation and one of my favorite games was God of War. So... theres Kratos. (Also I kinda look like him sans the tatoos) I was trying to think of something "epic?" like maybe a famous race car driver and then the last name McLeod (pronounced McCloud) popped into my head.

I used to play SWG and I have carried the name Vale Carrigon in most games. Vale I got off a set of old computer speakers made by the company Evesham who are now bust. The Carrigon part was made up.
I did the eve trial as Vale Carrigon but didn't sub the character, came back to eve a few months later and created a new character Vale Storm, Storm just being the name of the gaming community I am part of and run a forum for.

The current character's name is a tradition - I used my favourite P&P character to create my first character when I went online (with Neverwinter Nights). It stuck as my nick, and when first introduced to EVE, I continued to use it. However, for other races, I've had varied methods. My Caldari is named in somewhat Finnish way. I've tried playing Minmatar, but biomassed the character. (I think the bald Brutor was named Urho after a former Finnish president.) I also tried Gallente, named in somewhat-french, but biomassed that, too. (I have more than one account, and oh yes, I like biomassing my alts - no scamming involved.) For my Amarr characters, I use either Latin, Hebrew or Amarr system names (or a combination of Latin/Hebrew name and a system name), with the distinction that the ones I roleplay as "secular" do have a Latin name and the "religious" do have a Hebrew name.
The only funny name I think I've had would be a Khanid I had, but the name's funny only in Finnish. ("Japanese" Yokoama Umautan = Jokohama Humahutan = Shall I slam you already)

Make it sound as stupid as possible, right from the beginning. This way there's no possibility it will ever become tedious for you. Plus many people will think it's really cool.
Extra points are awarded by making it unpronouncable for english speakers

My name used to be Aurevoir Counard. Which combined the words goodbye and A**hole in french. Well of course as usual some (female sexual organ located between the legs) must have been offended by it cause they have nothing better to do, and the (male sexual organ located in the lower abdominal area) must have complained. Thus I log in one day and low and behold I am now....... Gallente Citizen1166.

I sit staring at the textbox for about 20 minutes, trying to think of something nice. Then I get ****ed, and mash the keyboard. Finally, I insert/delete a few letters into the mess from the keyboard-mashing episode so it resembles something name-like.

I have a talent for making up names. I often take a general direction, and start brainstorming. For example, I found 'Ricotez' to sound really Spanish. 'Ferdio' was taken from 'Ferdinand', which I found to not sound scifi enough for EVE.

I was a big fan of the movie "Dune", the original one with Sting.. but I hadn't read the book yet. It was the phonetic spelling of "Arrakis". I also added the last name "Mu'hadeeb", another phonetic spelling. The name stayed with me from EQ, SWG, Vanguard, City of Heroes, Pirates, Tabula Rusa, Lord of the Rings, even alot of home RPGs. Unfortunately, I was too quick on the next button when creating it for Eve Online.
Funny thing was.. someone liked my name enough that they have a character on WoW with my exact name, and I have never played it once.
I only do diplomancy because I haven't found you.. yet. |

Iasius i thought was my own original creation but a year after its creation i found this on wiki from greek mythology:-

I wanted "Myrkur", icelandic for darkness but it was taken, so...
Myrk(ur) + ala ("femalizer"), so became "Myrkala". (MYR-KALAH)
I think I have "Myrkur" in my addybook, never seen him/her log on, ever.

I was in a funny mood. Thought of something totally random and funny, and this became my main >.<. Then the stupid keyboard forgot the "b" in "Ambitious"...So I have a totally unique name, but a misspelled one.
I also use "Funjifore" which is a corruption of "Fungi-vore", which means "Fungus eater"- kind of like Carnivore, etc. Totally unique name ftw. If you ever see a Funjifore anywhere, it is most likely me .
Although, embarassingly, it was made up by my mother for me because I was having trouble thinking of a name. I have no idea why she connected comestible fungus with me
