You can and will be found by those who wish to find you and are willing to put forth the effort. Unless your extremely careful your information is plastered all over, sometimes even without your knowledge. All it requires is someone intelligent to connect the dots. In fact it's pretty difficult to keep your info off the internet these days.

Like I said above it can be done. I've had it done to me by a group of people that didn't like the things I said, and I returned the favor to that very same group of people after charges were ready to be pressed for the laws they had broken. If your connected to the internet you are not anonymous. You are simply wearing a cloak with the hood on. All someone has to do is remove it.
