It depends on the position on weather or not you would need to relocate. Most GMs and Forum Mods can do their job remotely. I know of some of the previous Mods(the 20%) worked remotely. However I would worry more not about relocating but of job security. CCP seems to have a high turn over rate on their employees. |

Removed some off topic posts and borderline comments on real world affairs, and moved the thread to OOPE but if you are interested in working for CCP I could definitely recommend applying as a Game Master. It's a good job with plenty of possibilities to evolve. Moving is not for everyone of course, but we're good hosts to new people :). The EVE GM team has a really low staff turnover rate. Crazy low compared to most customer support jobs. Most people who do decide to leave go to other positions in the company. Let me know if you have any questions. I see that the game master position is slated for Shanghai, China and not Iceland. I take it that this will be for support on Serenity rather than tranquility? Also would it be possible to remote or is GM strictly a cubicle jockey position? |

Ahh. If a position is in Shanghai it's usually tailored to fluent Chinese speakers with English as a second language. Most of the support for Tranquility is done from Iceland and Atlanta.
The only GMs that get to work remotely are trusted veterans who've worked in one of our offices for a long time and move away to go to school or something like that. Typically only a couple of GMs are remote at any given time.

I don't know if I would be able to handle that, I've grown rather attached to my box. And when I say my box I mean its one that I don't have to share with a coworker unlike most of the unfortunates in the main area. And what would I do without my roof constructed of the finest cardboard box lids? Your open floor plans kind of leads to the impression that I may actually have to involuntarily interact with my coworkers which unless its work related is not really a strong point of mine. |

while I do know that it isn't true, if one day I go to australia, I expect to be greeted by the customs officers with a token gift of every known poison antidote known to man on arrival, and a simple manual explaining that if you see even a single ant, you're expected to scream out loud and call the army ASAP to deal with the threat. i got this response when applying to eve community representative....
Thank you for sending in your application for the Eve Community Representative position at CCP. We very much appreciate your interest in the position and our company. Unfortunately we are not able to offer you a position at the moment. This may be because the position has already been filled, because your resume does not meet all of the requirements for the position or because we have several other resumes with more applicable experience.
We however encourage you to keep checking back with our website for any future vacancies which may interest you. We will also keep your application on file for the next 6 months should any opportunity arise which fits with your experience and qualifications.
Kind regards,
CCP
with the requirements being....
Must be fluent in English, both written and verbal. A second language, particularly German or Russian, a plus. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ideally one year previous experience with gaming communities and forum moderation. Familiarity with massively multiplayer online games, particularly EVE Online.
.....then anyone over 18 should qualify. or rather any 12 year old, but i believe you have to be over 18. the job is still posted , so hopefully the reason is someone else is better qualified. will be done with a computer science degree soon and i am obviously an eve player, so i am pretty sure that would met the requirements. too bad, just thought working at ccp would fit nicely with how much i like eve. but then i guess thats me and like 40,000 other people

CCP should let their GMs telecommute. I'd definitely go for a job like this if it didn't involve dragging my family to Iceland. The Skunkworks is recruiting. -áhttps://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1540711#post1540711 |

Just move in a Stealth Bomber, Force-Recon, CovOps, or cloak-sub T3. Problem solved!

Lenore Leelu wrote:So should I start writing my CV to apply for a job in not so sunny Iceland? Or is my current customer service / IT Service Desk job in Australia with Logica going to keep me happy. Would someone from an IT Service Desk background (and with bachelors degree in computer science at RMIT (Melbourne) ) be of use in the Game Master's department at CCP?
How many people have considered packing up and heading to Iceland to work for their favourite game company?
I'm thinking that a Game Master position would be sweet, especially since I'm relatively patient and like writing in the forums and help channel. Perhaps I'd unleash ITIL standards and put problem management and incident management into the petition tools (if they are not there already).
Must start writing CV instead of playing EVE or Diablo III.
pro tip dude get out of logica...as you may or may not know we are being bought out by some canadian company (CGI) I`m based at thier head office in the UK ...and peeps are leaving the company in droves atm . |
