Hello Fellow Eve Citizens!
Since there are quite a few auctions that are unclear, incomplete, miss details or even miss the ending time/date I have decuded to write a small summary of what is usually expected from an auction on these boards.
Details of item / BP
It is always good to start off the auction stating what you are trying to auction. People want to know as much as possible about what they are buying so usually either a detailed description or a link to such a description is highly appreciated. Screenshots are a good way of showing information aswell. (remember not to post the picture, but a link to the picture instead).
Minimum bid
Secondly one should try to state a starting price. Most players will want to know what kind of oofer will be accepted. For that reason it's a good idea to let the potential buyers see what offer will have you interested.
Minimum bid increase
To prevent players from raising bids with 0.01 isk or 50 isk on a multi-billion ISK item it is wise to post a "minimum bid increase". If one players offers a bid, the next bidder will at least have to bid the current bid + minimum bid increase to have a chance at the auctioned item.
End of auction
Always try to put an ending time and date for the auction. People appreciate to know how long they have to obtain the money or to outbid their opponent. I'd advise to limit the auction to 2-3 days, since most interested buyers will have noticed the auction within this time and having it last longer will only have your thread drop further down the pages.
The time at which the auction ends should also be stated. Keep in mind that players come from all over the world and a good time for you might not be a good time for you. I personally prefer an ending time between 20:00 and 22:00 EVE-time. It seems to suit most timezones.
Sniper rule
A sniper rule is very important in an auction. A sniper rule means that no matter when the auction is supposed to end, if a bid is put in before the end of the auction, the auction will be extended with the time that was mentioned with the sniper rule.
For example if my auction ends at 22:00 and my sniper rule is 15 minutes. Then if someone offers a new bid at 21:50, the auction lasts 15 minutes from 19:50 onwards, so it will now end at 22:05.
Optional parts of an auction
Buy-out Price
If you have a price for which you would sell your item directly you could post it with the auction rules.
Place where the item is
If you are auctioning an item you are unable or unwilling to move, you can always state where the item is located. This will prevent a buyer from backing out if the location is not where he/she wants to go.

One thing that I would like to add about the sniper rule is that, in my belief, only those that bid before the original end time should be allowed to take advantage of the sniper rule.

Re the ending time, it's also a good idea to try and stick to it... Some people will advise that it should be changed. It's difficult to know if they are suggesting this for your own good and giving you the chance to get optimum bidders, or just trying to manipulate the auction for their own benefit.

What if I dont post a reserve price and i¦m not happy with the highest bid?
What if I cancel the auction? Good, not good?
What if the buyer/seller doesnt answer to evemails?

Snipe rule is 100% wrong....
I playd mrpg for over 6 years been tradeing and auction for that time...
Snipe rule work like this:
Ur ending time is 20:00 and 15 min snipe rule.... thats mean all that has bid in the auction to 20:00 can bid in the snipe rule for 15 min... new ending time is then 20:15..
or else u can bid in ever time and not ending the auction.. and thats not fear for everyone.....

I do not believe it has given any auctions big problems so I think it is best to have the rule explained as I did.

One other minor point:
If you have a minimum bid, that's effectively the same thing as a reserve, as you are saying that number is the lowest bid you will accept to do the transaction. Saying you have "No Reserve!" but posting a minimum bid is misleading.
Seeing "No Reserve!" in posts with minimum bids irrationally agitates my inner anal retentive freak to a violent mental state.

Following some confusion on this thread, might I suggest that, for future auctions, the time period is deemed to of passed at the END of the 15th minute.
For example, if a bid is entered at 15:00 all bids will be accepted until the clocks state 15:16. This then covers any dilemna over whether it is, indeed, 15 minutes or not (particularly as the forums don't show seconds).
