I'd like to know what the hell's going on with the servers, this has to be the 3rd time tonight that the "node" I was using has gone "offline"...
That and I'm getting wierd C++ Library errors if I'm typing in a chat channel when it crashes.

I guess the 8 hours of fault tollerance on the last two days, and today's unscheduled extra hour and a half downtime to 'further strengthen fualt tollerance' didn't really help at all huh? Or, maybe this is just the "Coming up!!! (Extended downtime today to increase fualt tollerance even further)". LOL.

yeah - this seems more and more like, that there is a considerable amount of panic behind the last 3 days of extended downtime - will be interesting to see how quickly they can fix this at 20 to 2 in the morning Icelandic time

Yea! ..then you can wait 2-3 houres to get online again ..and see if you still got your ship !
I lost 4 battleship on 1year due "suddenly Downtime" ..LOL and each i got a mail back from "the lovely support center" ..we very sorry yardyyeardy BlaHHblahH
No point in having named rare stuff on your ship ..coz youll lose it on those server crashes ..its more "safe" to sit totaly bored in a 1.0 system station without EVER undocking ..Coz (this) could happen
But we gotta face it, we love the game (thats true) ..but we are still playing a 2year old beta game

I got my trial account just 4 days ago, but i had so many crashes with the client and the server so that i don't think i will be a future customer. This game is (i guess) at least one year old, what have you done in the elapsed month, i don't wanna know how it looked like the past few month.
Sorry but no thanks!!!

There really is no reason for all of this downtime and server crashes. We're only talking about a couple of backend databases, and that's it...10k users is *nothing*.
I have trouble imagining what they are doing with 1-4 hours of downtime every day. If they are using Windows as a server backend, that could explain many of the problems, since Windows is notorious for being unable to server many clients.
19.8% downtime over the past 2 days, when a reasonable number is more like 2% downtime for an entire year.

Sadly I don't have trouble imagining, maybe they're still toasting the night they broke 11k and the servers didn't go offline, or maybe they're all busy downloading movies and really stupid mp3's, or they could be playing a LAN game like someone dug up Tradewars 2002, only asci but it had ferrengi and was stable, and if things started to go against you the sysop could always bigbang the universe for the greater good.
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

You folks just don't realize the difficulty it is to power up these servers with Icelandic lemmings...800 of the little female baggers run in 42 large treadmills to power these suckers!!
The problem occurs when someone screws up and doesn't check the replacement Lemmings...and you guessed it....it goes ONE male...and BOOM...all Hell breaks out.
And the servers go down...and up...and down...until they find that one little buggere with a SMILE on his face...

Edited by: Ekim on 24/09/2004 02:10:18 It's all my fault, I pressed F1 to turn off the mining laser on my Indy and the server crashed.
I'm going to ask for help to regain the training time lost due to server down. ____________________________________________

I'm sure that having 5000 people clicking away at the Connect button isn't helping anything either...

/me discards rabbit's foot in shame
I wonder if they could rig up another login server...... It seems that could be a bottleneck on the system. That, or having TQ in Europe somewhere, where the 'net is more reliable |

If you had a 200mill bs ..everything you own - and you'll propperly lost it to offline npc's ..wouldnt that be sad ? ..instead a normal ship lost like online or a pvp fight

Is there no one to speak up for CCP? Do you people not understand that the CCP servers, as compared to other MMO servers, are superior? CCP is in the process right now of upgrading their network structure! A simpleton would think "Since CCP is upgrading its NS, it will not crash at all." WRONG. CCP is fooling around with new hardware/software and proceedures in their upgrade. This means that, for a short while, the servers will actually be LESS STABLE untill the work is 100% done and error tested.
BTW, I've been playing for abt 1.5 months now and the game has NEVER crashed while I've been playing. Thats unheard of!
So it crashes occasionaly... of course it does. All mmo servers do. All SERVERS do. That is the nature of the net. *****ESPECIALLY***** while upgrades are going in.
Quit being such big crybabys.

Explain your logic. Are you saying that me playing 1.5 months (for many hours each day) and never ONCE experiancing a crash is not enough for me to at least know that the servers are relativly stable when compared to other MMOs, in which I crash much more often?
Add the fact that most, if not ALL, if this very recent downtime (and hence whining on the boards) is the result of CCP upgrading the network, really makes people who whine and whine about server stability pathetic.
Do you expect the network upgrades to just be a "snap your fingers -- WALA! the server works 243% better now!" type of deal? In order to upgrade the network, in many cases, you must take it down for extra amounts of time and, in some cases, take it down with little to no warning. Also, while upgrading the servers and testing the new settings, the chance of a random outage is greater, wouldent you think?

The UK Internet backbone is one of the best in the world. Our ISPs seem pretty good as well. Of course if you are hanging around children's chat forums then you may be talking to people who can only afford a cut-price ISP.
But basically I don't know who's been telling you that the UK has an Internet problem but whoever it is is talking through their backside. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Yep, internet in UK is usually just fine - plenty of redundancy. Most of the backbone does seem to be situated in potential terrorist targets though, which does worry me slightly.
Windows servers crash. Network devices seem to go mental on a regular basis. Welcome to the wonderful world of computing. Now if Eve ran on a mainframe it would be a different story...99.999% availability with built in redundancy for everything. Only thing that stops them is a natural disaster...or me!
