So I got really bored last night and started scanning out mission runners with a mission running alt.
I would warp into the missions in my Navy Raven and start shooting their rats.
I cannot actually claim this is fun, it isn't really... but I got 6 hate mails. Six.
I haven't gotten this many hate mails in years. Its quite clear to me that people must be into this for the hate mail, which I get--sort of.
That's my brief insight for the quarter.
Cheers,

If you're getting hate mail, then there's a good chance you can get them to shoot you.

What I considered doing was shooting the triggers then warping out. That would have been good for some lulz. At least for a little an hour or so.

Its great fun to use an alt to bump them off there next acceleration gate while you pop all the triggers in the next room and kite them all over to the warp in point. Then you can sit and watch for when the CNR on scan turns into a pod on scan.

Or hit up some level 5 mission runners in low sec.you'll either find a "carebear" with teeth or some idiot that doesn't know what low-sec really means. Either way, from a pvp stand point, it just makes more sense. When there's little to no chance of being fired upon(and in a pve faction fit ship we know it's more like no chance save for the few that just aren't that bright) its just lame and boring. The few times I've jumped into somebodies mission felt just like that. Lame and boring. After all, we all know it's way harder to pop a pvp ship fit with all meta 3-4 modules than it is to pop a pve fully faction fit faction ship, w/tech 2 rigs. Besides, isn't hate mail from a level 5 mission runner in low-sec a lot more gratifying than a level 2 mission runner in high-sec?
Also, seeing as it looks to be a new thing for you, most of this rant is obviously aimed elsewhere. Just tired of hearing "ninja" salvagers/ mission jumpers and can flippers talk about "carebears" like they aren't carebears themselves. Here's some news, until you start doing it in low/null sec you are a carebear. And for those that do it in low and null sec, well, I respect that. Furthermore, if you do it in low and null sec and come to high sec every now and then because maybe you had a bad streak and need to replenish your wallet by suiciding some hulks, flipping a few cans, or even ninja salvaging a mission runner I respect that too. "Carebears" should have the sense not to mine into cans and to bring defense(every corp/alliance should have a group of pvpers), excepting, ofcourse, brand new npc corp players. This rant is dedicated explicitly to those people that do nothing but high-sec "piracy". And there are a lot of you. Stop running every time I warp into the belt in my Taranis/Rifter/Tristan/Hurricane/etc. If you're going to flip the can and I flip it from you grow some balls, you were fit to fight a near defenseless miner, as your sticking around in belt points out. Not to say I mind waiting a few minutes before going to get my hauler(miners always seem to run too leaving their ore) I don't mind at all. [Newsflash, if you're a miner, you get can-flipped, and I flip the can flipper's can I will give half back if you ask. The other half is payment and a reminder of why jet can mining is stupid.] __________________ Look, a forum alt! |

Aww, did the widdle ninja get her feewings huwt? Guessing you must be a carebear ninja. Otherwise you probably wouldn't have a problem with anything I typed. Ooh, server is back up, You better hurry before someone else loots and salvages that 2 day old player's mission that you know won't shoot you, or if they did would melt to whatever pvp ship you come back with, as if it'd even be necessary. __________________ Look, a forum alt! |

Sure thats a lot of fun. Lots of risk there (cough/choke). The whole point is to salvage or loot and try to get the mr to shoot a defenseless frigate. Try that, then troll the forum. What fool would shoot at a CNR unprovoked. I dont think it was hate mail, but sympathy cards. No you are not getting the whole Ninja thing.

Where are people getting this idea that when engaging in piracy you should subject yourself to as much risk as possible?

Maybe it would be helpful if we had a module that allowed us to salvage something valuable from Zaphod's post.

as a 'amateur' ninja salvager, I can say that it is so much more entertaining of a way to make Isk. I wouldnt have stuck it out in Eve is I had to mine for a living.

Look at my security status. Most days I completely agree with your sentiment and have expressed as much here, which is why I made this thread.
It was only after doing the activity and getting the hate mail that I started to understand the gankbears--a little. My sig don't fracking work. |

I've been pretty vocal about my distaste for the gankbear crowd; however, I made this thread precisely because I've been so vocal about it--I understand them a bit better now, and I'm trying to not be as hostile.
Though it is good to know that C&P remains C&P and the flaming trollish trash will come out for every thread no matter what it says.
Tbh, this is one of the main reasons I stopped posting in this channel.

To be honest here, again I was trying to emphasize with you guys and to say that I had possibly misjudged the activity on a certain level...
But since you opened this door...
First of all, Mr. Suddenly Ninja, the goal for you is really to try and get people to shoot at you? Strangely enough in the many times, and I mean many times, that I have encountered your corporation in my missions I've had stuff stolen out of my can one time. That's right--a single time. So spare me the lecture about what your "goals" when your corporation never tried to get me to shoot at them in their many opportunities to do so.
Second of all, Mr. Gankbear, there is this very wonderful idiomatic expression in English that goes something like:
"Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."
I think that this applies most assuredly to you. You want to make a comment about the lack of "danger" in an activity? Really? You? The people who hang out in hi-sec and flip cans so you can kill that solo mission runner in his PvE fit ship? The people whose idea of a good time is trying to trick someone into getting concorded?
And you're saying it to me... a pirate. You know, the real kind, that lives in low-sec and blows up people in pvp fit ships.
Yeah. I thought so.

Obviously you want to minimize risk to a certain extent. So of course, in my line of work--real piracy--you don't want to undock in your 5 man gang into 50 people camping your station.
That said, for most us in my experience, while we gank people are really in it for the pvp. We aren't in it for the hatemails, though those are fun, or the making of crying carebears.
We're in it because its ****ing fun to engage a 5 man BS gang with your 5 man BS gang and come out on top.
Its fun to undock when your outnumbered and getting into a fight that you just barely win--or lose.
That's the whole point, and the "riskier" it is--or rather, the more even the fight and the more skilled your opponent the more fun it is.
Incidentally, its also more fun trying to catch mission runners who are running in low-sec and being very cautious. Much more rewarding than my little experience last night--scanprobes out and I've got 10 ships! That and you don't have to flip their cans when you find them. You can warp in with guns blazzing.

Just because people aren't looting your cans doesn't mean they wouldn't enjoy it if you shot at them.
