Yes, really. Personal experience has shown me that I can burn down Serpentis, Angels, Drones, Mercs and most others easily in a Pally and Nightmare, especially the range of T2 crystals.
Don't say "No, not really" without presenting reasons why not.
In my experience CNR/Golem is slightly faster in missions against Guristas/Angels/Merc's/EoM. The difference is not big and my dataset is not long enough to state that as fact, but the trend is there for me. Then again Nightmare is faster in missions against Drones/Sansha/Blood. I don't get a lot of Serpentis ones, but those few datapoints I do have seem to hint they are roughly same against Serpentis.
And ofc ship with huge damage can kill em all easily. It's not the question of ease tho, it's question of how many missions can one do per hour on average.
For the OP. Ravenkind is the most universal platform, against sepcific opposition you can always find something else that is faster in that particular situation. Ie against EM weak Nightmare/Paladin owns against Gurista/Serpentis Kronos is rather uber, etc. Actually Dominix is also quite decent I have heard as far as missionrunning goes, but can't really comment on that, as I have not tried that one myself. Anyway - question if this is "the best" will always get conflicting answer unless you specify "for what" and in case of missionrunning also what region and agent division you keep in mind (as that determines the factions you would be fighting against most).

There is indeed fact, that if one can fly already Nightmare he can also fly Ravenkind (Minus missile skills perhaps), so one of the best combinations to fly is Nightmare for missions where it is good and CNR or Golem for missions where it has slight edge. Well and then HAC and Inty for those few missions where they are best. Or Tengu if you have too big pile of isk instead of HAC.
As far as Raven fitting goes, I get impression you have not used one a lot, so I would suggest using cap injector fueled one for a little while until you learn the ropes. Cruise launchers (unless you already have uber skills to pull off torpedo setup), Heavy cap injector + tank, 3-4x BCU's and either damage control or fitting mods. Some rigs (if you have good skills rigors, if torpedoes then missile speed ones if just starting then CCC or the one lowering booster cap consumtion if injector fueled) and ofc some drones.

You are going in right direction, but passive shield tank is not good idea in level 4 missions on battleship class ship. Some ships can do it but regular Raven is not one of them. Dominix and Rattlesnake are those battleships that can pull it off without losing effectivity to the point where regular Drake would be better to use.
If you are new to the missions then go for 6x XT-9000 launcher 1x Auto Targeter I 1x Small Tractor I 1x XL booster 1x Shield boost amplifier 3x T2 rat specific hardener 1x heavy cap injector (5x800) 4x BCU II 1x CPU I (switch for damage control if cpu is not issue) 3x Core Defence Capacitor safeguard I 15x light drones (to kill scramblers)
Carry 15 x800 charges plus 5 in injector. That will leave you enough room for ammo to do even long missions (up to around 3000 missiles with low skills). You will live around 4 minutes under heavy fire that will leave you enough time to kill scramblers and get out if you mess up. Unless it's one of those missiosn that can kill you over XL booster going full speed in that time (there is few of those also).

Minor suggestions to the above. *Drop the XT-9000 launcher for an Arbalest at the soonest your wallet allows. *Drop the SBA and go for 4x T2 hardners if you're up against Sansha/Blood.
A slight variation of a newbie Raven that focuses on sustained tank. Meds, lows and rigs :
1x CL5 X-Large booster (or Large booster II for better cap efficiency) 1x Shield boost amplifier (or 1x Painter for easy missions) 4x T2 rat specific hardener (or 3x T2 hardeners and 1x Cap Recharger)
1x DCU II 2-4x BCU II /0-2x PDS II (ratio more BCU if you prefer more dps)
0-3x CCC/0-3x Rigor (ratio more Rigor for increased dps against cruisers and below)
A great summary of PvE raven fitting that anyone who is starting out on lv4's should follow.
I think it's also reasonable to add, that if one is new to level 4 missions it is good idea to insure that ship. Loss or two is expected in the learning phase, even if reading the mission descriptions.

Originally by: Bryce Lester Ok so I've decided to go all out and shell out the dough for a CNR and updated my fitting, let me know what you guys think.
Would suggest starting out with just T1 rigs for a start. It will save you nice amount of isk and if you do have the isk go for navy BCU's instead for a start, after that hardwires and then if you still have isk to burn consider T2 rigs.
Also, if CPU is issue it is reasonable to use CN rat specific hardeners instead of T1 ones (same resists as T2, but take less CPU, approx 20 mil / pop). Using T1 hardeners is possible, but it's somewhat hassle in level 4 missions. With some more isk CN BCU's save you also nice amount of CPU.
