Just stepped up into a megathron and need soome advice for fitting it for mission running ( kill missions mainly ) .

My skills aren't great and i don't currently have large hybrids ( 2 days off being able to train it ).
I armour tank ( haven't bothered really with shield skills ) , have smartbombs and missiles trained , also high lvl drone usage .

But not sure whether to go all out long range , close range , or a mix .

I'd go for 6 x 250 rails and 2 heavy launchers, then a webifier and a 100mwd, then fill the mids with cap charges (maybe cap batteries as well), lows 1 large repaier or 2 medium, 3 x hardner and the rest damage mods.

you want to do missions? than use this

7xHeavy Pulse Lasers (medium), 1xSiegeluncher
3xCap recharger, MWD
2xlarge AR, 3xhardener, 2x cap relays

HammerHead Drones in Bay

Hell tankabilitys, perfect against cruisers/frigates. Your drones are just for backup, because its not worth lunching them. Warp in 15km and kill them all under a min.

Warning:
I have Engineering 5, Electronics 5, Weapon Upgrades 5 and really most engineering skills 4 or 5, so you might not be able to fit the stuff I describe here. (I don't have EVE on and I remeber the fitting being a close one.)

Usage
For lvl 3 agent missions from a Caldarin Navy Agent, effective Quality 38 (I think, or 36 or something).

Philosophy
Be on the safe side. Do not deliver the maximum damage, but be sure to survive any encounters that might happen from this kind of agent.
Arrow Long range setup
Arrow MWD to be able to get away
Arrow The lone armour repairer for when it gets really hot

Fitting
All items are T2, since I don't have the money for T2. You should use named versions (of course) if possible.

HIGH SLOTS
6 (or 5)x425mm Railgun the main damage dealers
2xHeavy "Arabalest" Launchers w/ EMP Targetted Heavy Missiles only in emergency cases

MID SLOTS
1 100 MN MWD to be able to get away from NPCs and for loot collection
1 Large Shield booster the main defense; lvl 3 rats are only cruisers
1 Sensor Booster for long range combat: I fight at 60+ km
1 I-don't-remember (cap recharger probably) whatever you like, really

LOW SLOTS
1 CPU-1 totally needed
1 Large Armour Repairer didn't need it so far... but for emergencies I keep it
1 Named dmg mod for hybrids simply to beef up the dmg
1 Capacitor Power Relay
2 (or 3?) Power Diagnostic Systems needed the extra power and decided to go for PDS

Drones
I usually have some scout drones for frigs and some heavies for emergencies.

How it flies
You might notice the fact, that I do not have warp core stabs on the ship. But when it gets really close, the drones do get you out of trouble. Also, lvl 3 agent NPCs are not able to really harm a BS imo. I did all missions very well (including the bounty hunters and such) and never even had to use my armour repairer, so you might not want one.

With the current setup you deal enough dmg to the cruisers to make about 1M / hour if you get the multiple spawn missions. I do not collect frigate loot, though, since I do not fancy doing 200 km with a 1km/s Megathron.

hmm, this is an old post, but since its in a sticky i thought i reply.

Now that exodus is out i would definitily go close range with a mega.
Wy? ill tell ya, deadspace mission, they are so much easier and faster to do when close range. Dont worrie about the dmg dealt upon you ur mega can take it. I have done every mission, and made the time bonus. Even with extravaganza. Here it is:

High: 6 ions, 2 siege (with torps, 2 torps is generally enough for 1 frig)

Mid : web, 100mn ab (the 120% boost makes u go 350 wich is nice) 2 cap rechargers (best possible.)

Low : 2 hardeners (ussually kin/ter is enough) 1 large rep 4 cap power relays (3 might be enough but 4 gives uber recharge)

Warp in at 15km web the cruisers, let ur drones/torps handle the frigs.

i have a fast frig (burst) nearby for collecting loot, but u could do it in the mega.

Needed eng 4 elect 4 weap upgr 4.

Well.. talking about tanking in lvl3 mission on mega is a bit hironic, u can make them in crusier without problems, BTW!

in my mega for Chain lvl3 for cash/standing i use 6x heavy afocal maser or what are named are medium beam laser, i take from 5km to 20km with multifreq, and i don't have amazing laser skill btw, maybe the pulse are better due to the real superiority of them...

2 torp launcher, very very damn useful against inty/drones, is boring to launch drone for kill something, so 2 torps and it say goodbye!

1 ab's tech2 (mwd in deadspace don't work and is boring re-fitting) 2 cap recharger named, + 1 track computer tech2 (always help)

low i got 1 acco large repair, 3 hardener, 1 1600mm rolled tungsten, and 2 cap relay, but in real, i often remove the 1600mm for fit 3 relay...

on mission lvl4 i tank it with 2x 1600mm rolled, 3 hardener, 2 large accomodation, 4 cap recharger in mid slot, it don't run forever, but when u are under fire of multiple bs u will say thanks for having 10.000+ armor and surviving the huge beat while warping away.

ololool.
my level 3 mission mega is so damn fun.

7 x 150mm rails (named/tech2) pref.
1 x assault missile launcher w/ defenders (i use arbalest)

100mn afterburner
3 cap rechargers (i use eutectics)

1 large armor repairer (i use accomodation)
2 damage specific hardeners (3 for angel deadspace missions, take a damage mod off)
2 cap power relays
2 hybrid damage mods (i use mag stab 2s)

i do all level 3 missions with this setup, all shots always hit, and hit with force.
most of the frigs/cruisers like to come within 10km of you, this is where 7 frig guns make short work of anything.
most of the time, if i can't be bothered slowboating to the groups of npcs in deadspace missions i just target them, fire one round and wait for all of the group to come to me - then i rip them apart with the rails and drones.

does all missions easily, tanks with no problem at all.
on mordus and blockade mission i just setup my tank up, unleash my drones and chat for 10 minutes while they do the job ;)

the afterburner is for the deadspace missions :)

How on earth do you keep 2 large repairers running? I have nearly maxed cap skills (one more to do to level 5) and 2 don't run indefinately, even one named large and 1 medium tech II don't run indefinately without more capacitor mods. So drop the second repairer and run your tank constantly by adding another capacitor power relay.

Also use 2 x siege launcher. This will be your friend when the time comes to destroy the silo to pick up the implant ;).

But the most important thing to remember is bring more ammo than you think you will need. Always a pain in the arse to run out before your done.
