Probably because they're not bots.
Forum bots generally attack known forum software (vBulletin, phpBB, Snitz, etc), they don't tend to go after bespoke forums like this one.
Also, bots don't tend to go through the whole process of creating a paid-for account (and actually making a payment for it) before spamming.
It's a real person doing these. |

I am curious as to how much the sales have increased this week due to the spammers, must be a decent ammount as I can see Yarton Killmoree, Dirk Magnumm and Dirk Magnums all posting this crap in the last 20 minutes alone. That is about 100 dollars right there (assuming they are using bought GTC's and not PLEX's) |

The only thing I can think of that would work is to put in a timer between creating new threads, say 10 minutes at least. I mean if you need to start new threads at a higher rate you have some serious issues. That way only 3 spam threads would be possible to post per account before they are reported and taken care of. If they want to spam more they will need to sacrifice more paid accounts.
Ofcourse this won't do much good if they start spamming by replying to threads instead.
In addition to that they can add so characters have to be 10-15 days old before they can post links and images. |

The trick is to mess up their intended spamming spree. Also if it is a time restriction before the first post then they will need to have a lot of accounts created "in preparation". Now if CCP can figure out a way to link the accounts together they can kill off two weeks worth of spam chars in one sweep. |

Of course they're getting banned. Every wave is another month subscription money for CCP. They make three characters, spam as much as possible and then get banned, hoping they get enough account details to make up for the cost.
Every account detail will be checked for every game they do business with, so if you happen to get keylogged and you use the same details elsewhere you'll lose all of your assets here and there.
Those keylogger spam attacks are exactly the reason why RMT is terribly bad. GTC sales don't even compare to the magnitude of terrible bad that this kind of malicious RMT is. |

Bugger, you know I didn't even think of that. They're keylogging, of course they're going to steal people's credit card and paypal details. I wouldn't like to be the one handling the mess of chargebacks from that D:. |

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Captcha's in general are broken (you should see the spam flooding out of Gmail), the specific one CCP is using is even more so. It's only useful against trivial OCR. None of these will stop a human, which is problematic as the attackers are likely meatbags. |

The damage that the hacked accounts cause will likely cost CCP more to clean up than they get from a few stoley creddy cards. It's not a good thing. |

So the spammers create a character, buy Corporation Management skillbook and make a corporation, the hardest part for them would be to get the isk to make a corp but if they are ademant(spelling?) on posting on forums they will make the needed isk. So would just slow them down. |

No **** sherlock, I'm well aware of what keyloggers are designed to do.
What I'm saying is that bots are generally designed to attack weak installations of popular (as in hundreds & thousands of sites using it) forum software like phpBB, vBulletin, Snitz, etc.
If it were bots (i.e. automated processes) attacking these forums then they would've had to have been written specficially to attack these bespoke forums. Comprende?
Also the fact the CAPTCHA has failed to stop them is further proof that someone is actually posting these things manually. It's not that hard to join the dots.
