Not as a primary key but we will be storing it as a field on deposits.
Phew. Forgive me for being rough. I do that sometimes.

I hate to say it but we engineers are often stereotyped that way. ;) Consider it forgiven.

Are we allowed to attempt to break the system and/or find exploits for fixing? I'm a goon afterall, and we tend to be good at breaking things :)
In all seriousness, this looks like an interesting project, both as an Eve pilot and a hobbyist programmer. Would love to help beta-test it.

No offense but I don't like the "one table to rule them all" approach, I had to do this on an huge military AS400 business application and it was kinda scary after a while.
Also "Account passwords will be stored in the database in an encrypted fashion", why not just store an hash and perform a challenge authentication? When I hear of passwords being stored, my hairs get all ruffled.
Also, I'd like to apply for the beta. - Auditing and consulting

You are absolutely encouraged to attempt to find exploits and/or break the system. Just please do share the steps so that we may repair them...

None taken. However, the approach is entirely common in Ruby on Rails to accommodate polymorphic (standard object-oriented) behavior to reduce the amount of repetition/increase reusability in the code

"Encrypted" does, in this case, mean a salted hashed password in this case. A hash is a one way encryption, FYI.

I know what an hash is. In fact I intended a 1 way password exactly to make it 1 way and remove any (well, almost any with MD5 or similar) possibility for someone to reconstruct the passwords stored in the database.
The account stores the hashed value, when the guy logs in he sends a pre-encrypted string to be de-crypted on the server, hashed and compared with the stored hash. If the challenge authentication fails, then the user is notified. - Auditing and consulting

One part of this plan is allowing dividend payments from virtual shares, correct? Does this mean that the stock exchange will need a team of, "Tellers" to pay out dividends on a regular basis?
If bad bobby were to use this to handle dividends would you guys be willing to pay out dividends to 100 or 200 people?

In this case when bad bobby paid dividend they would be credited to all the accounts of his investors via EvE-Trade immediately and stockholders can request a withdrawal anytime they like. If all of them requested a withdrawal that day then yes they would all be done within the 48h service agreement. A group of tellers will only be used if it grows beyond my personal capacity. Also any new teller will be required to provide collateral to function in a teller capacity for security reasons.

Ever thought about the possibility of tying in with Ulscese future bank operation?
Seems to me that an exchange with virtualized shares and automated transfer, payment, withdrawal system would just go hand in hand. |

Seconded. I plan on leverage IHFS for my Eve Insurance project.

And here I was going to point out the obvious that:
(1) No particular IPO has been mentioned at this time and (2) Failing to find any constructive information in the original poster's remarks.
However, Ray, your comments were far more elegant as they are based on documented historical fact. Thumbs up.

Excellent. On that topic, are you guys going to be setting up a bug tracker and forum for beta testers? How about a channel on IRC or jabber?

Beta Testers will be using the built in help desk feature to report bugs. A forum will also be available. Tentative start of official closed Beta is this weekend. We are doing a bit more testing ourselves then we are ready to let you guys in.

The feedback mechanism will be the envelope/mail icon on the webapp's toolbar. You'll know it when you see it. Basically, you'll just be shooting me e-mails.
I'm the only dev so bug tracking, for now, is a piece of cake.

You won't lose money as part of the beta.
Now when EVE-Trade goes live, that may be another matter... ;-) However, ideally, we'll instead enable you to make tons of ISK instead.

What is going to be the seucurity isk-related? Are all isks going to be helded by LoW? Is going to be any limit on the money to ensure security? Full amount is going to be liquid and available? Hit by bus strategy? Does an existing project need full agreement from the shareholders to be translated there or can it be partially handled on eve stock?
Can we access our personal data via API? (To implement it on other apps). And finally, can we add in-game or unsupported virtual shares manually to our acount to manage and track all our investments on the same place?
I would like to sign for beta, although I'm short on time lately, I would like to see it if possible.

Originally by: Roquezir However, we will have a link on the site for individuals to donate to the upkeep of the server. Should we raise enough funds, I would gladly shell out the minimum $90/year to Network Solutions for a certificate.
$90 per YEAR?! That must be the most expensive single-hostname certificate out there. I can get a Comodo single-hostname certificate from a reseller for 15 euro per year. _________ Real-time EVE Stock Exchange Feature request: Share transfer log (since 2007.10!) |

Thanks,
