Edited by: Gabriel Rike on 01/08/2009 02:53:19 I was the fc for this fight on the moms side. (I am also Veronica Sarro)
I would like to thank everyone that came out, both to kill us and to help us. The minmitar militia actually responded first lol which I thought was rather funny. One of our mothership guys was recording the fight and got over 100gb of footage froms tart to finish from us jumping in, to us dying. It was truely epic.
A little insight on to this fight.
Every member of Channel 4 News Team knows each other irl. Infact we knew each other out of game before we knew of each other ingame, and have been together all this time. We decided to form our corporation to avoid all the polotics of major alliances and to simply have fun. We have done several outrageous ops in the past from dread fights that were made to fight bs's (that was another epic fight as well, though not nearly to this scale) to super crazy mining ops, all for no other reason than to say we can and did.
This fight was something we always talked about doing. One of those 'it will never happen but would be awesome' kinda things. infact we had every detail planned out and had many of the skills to do it among our oldest players, but just not the funding. Then on October 31 of last year, Ryan Fisher, or as he was known in game Flying Fish(one of the nyx's) and Firemarshal Bill (one of the wyv's) died in a motorcycle accident. It was after the funeral we all decided then and there, this wouldnt be a 'never gonna happen' dream, we were going to make it happen!
so we all started training for crucial roles in the op, and getting enough moms to do the job. Since we were in FW when it happened, we decided to join them for the big op as well. so it would show that we did this without any major alliance help, without any outside influence. The entire fleet that showed up was all as a response from people that knew him in game or out. (and the very few militia guys that actually got out there) We had hoped for more but expected none. It was truely Epic guys. Operation: Gone Fishing.... was a total success as we planned to loose everyone of them spartan death style!
Thanks again for the fight we didnt have to wait long to see it happen! (though damn desync hit every one of us in the mom fleet the moment the dreads jumped in or we would have gave you a better run for your money lol!!, maybe next time!)
This is Gabriel Rike, Signing Off. You Stay Classy Eve.

That part was for the people who tossed their motherships out the window. They'd done the militia a better service leaving before they got owned. As I read it it was no epic fight, just a onesided slaughter and as such not much to write home about.

Yes I'd rather be in a fight that's a fight than a gank but that's just me.
Actually, had the Mom's been better fit with a smattering of neuts/ECM bursts about them they could have rapidly sweapt the tackle, got the majority of them to stand off range, 150km ish, where the Dreads would be doing crap DPS, dumped fighters, popped a few dreads, warped out before our siege was up with cigars in mouth and some vOv's in local. I personally was expecting only to get one or two at most, knowing how hard it is to lock down a Mom in lowsec, let alone 8 Keep in mind the world and his wife would have been mobilising their assets to get in on it as well, we narrowly escaped an NC hotdrop (by pure virtue of their cyno not having any fuel) among others, so it could well have escalated to an even larger battle.
Props for doing it Channel 4.

Ignore him, his inferiority complex comes out by critiquing others actions. We were a few hundred ozone away from a messy three way (belated). Not sure how quick we were from scouting to hotdrop, but I think we were relatively quick which probably saved our bacon and the need for me to make HMS Sallyforth Mk IV

You probably should have a disclaimer up top saying only backpatters next time.
I am not impressed, I think it was a waste of resources but it's their call how to toss it away. As LT himself stated, had they known how to fight it may have been something else, I just don't see what's epic about it.

Im not sure how you can call engaging 8 motherships and a support fleet, shooting fish in a barrel. Most people **** their pants at the sight of one super cap.
The hot drop took some organising no doubt, along with one personal hictor for each mom, thats a pretty well pulled off drop.
The bydi/cryhavoc/invicta/laconian's pulled off one of their specials, gg and the milita appear to have honoured a rl friend in true style.
I also take personal offence to your suggestion that FW caps are somehow weaker targets than what? 0.0? nebula rasa?

The bydi/cryhavoc/invicta/laconian's pulled off one of their specials, gg and the milita appear to have honoured a rl friend in true style.
I also take personal offence to your suggestion that FW caps are somehow weaker targets than what? 0.0? nebula rasa?
Go ebay your account to someone who has more clue than you.
Who are you to talk about clues? First you say people would crap their pants seeing one mothership and support then you profess to knowing it's what Cry Havoc do. Why would they then **** their pants when it's them doing what they do and know how to do? Choose a leg and stand on it.
Yes FW caps suggests a weaker opponent as the guys throwing them away themselves admitted, they joined FW for the explicit purpose of showing themselves weak to get a fight. FW fleets really doesn't have capitals to match Cry Havoc, let alone them and friends.
Whoever said Rasa was interested in Caps Online?

Why Danton is emo-raging about people losing ships in ways that they actually want to is beyond me, but tbh it's not your decision to be made. The fight was epic, it made history, and it's wasn't nearly as laggy for me as it was alliance mates and allies so I enjoyed every 900 seconds worth, or close to that. True shame the last 2 moms got out :( but who can ***** about breaking a record :)
-- Relating to the hotdrop, shame it didn't happen....although the odds might have been against us it would have been interesting to see how it went down, I can't complain, i'm still hanging on to my ship ;)

Danton basically just missed the point of EVE ... which is actually to have fun.
Putting 8 MS on the field is fun. I know this, I've done it. You're riding high on a boatload of expensive hardware that can perform above and beyond what ordinary carriers can pull off. You know that at any moment the sh*t can hit the fan and that enemy cap fleet will be there to fight. Then its a question of how you react and whether your pilots pull through or panic.
These guys knew Tama was a high traffic zone and they were going to get a fight. They brought ships, they brought friends, and they said "bring it on".
Fighting 8 MS is fun. MS are a pain to hold down, and they're a shiny trophy to land. A support fleet makes it that much worse, as they can break your tackle and screw you up at any point. We flagged for that engagement, so every single one of the 100-odd guys in local had the option to shoot at us at that point. The hostiles had sniper BS, ECM, boatloads of random tackle, and just pandemoneum throughout.
We knew during the whole fight that there are a zillion eyes on Tama, so we're on the timer from the moment we touch down. Any one of the larger forces can muster a response bigger than ours, at which point its our turn to fight our way out.
The battle took place back and forth near the gate. Initially on jump in most of them were at the gate itself. Sniper BS hanging off the gate, and boatloads of small support at close range. HICs grabbed as many as they could (about 4) and the rest warped out. 2 left altogether, 2 stopped at range. We ignored the sub-caps and just put damage on the motherships to drop them fast. Needed that Hel to complete my collection ;) It vaporized in a flash and we ground through the others and the triage carrier trying to support. Meanwhile, we got a warp-in on the two more that were still at range, and got HICs on those plus all our support that could extricate itself.
With the MS by the gate down and the supporting carrier, we swept any other subcaps that were at close range and waited for the siege cycle to finish. Our subcaps struggled to keep the two others pointed against the enemy fleet and we sent the carriers up to help out. Finally the dreads came out of siege and we went to finish the job.
Both MS went down after that and the call was made to finish cycle and jump out. Most dreads made it out, but a few were still stuck in the mass of hostile tackle all over the field due to disconnecting at a key time (when we were warping) or getting tackled as we moved ou. We sent the carriers back to run off the tacklers, swept them off the field, and got our last dreads out, followed by the carriers.
In other words, we had a blast. Which is exactly what you're _supposed_ to do when playing a game. If that's not what you play EVE for, I'd suggest finding something more fun.
Cheers!

I do not see any indication of seeing it from both sides from you, all I see is a one-sided argument about "killing FW-motherships doesn't matter/isn't significant". As for my opinion, I don't really 'revel' in ships killed, but I do think it's pretty cool when high numbers of supercapitals are used and get blown up.
Why you need to make it your agenda to try and belittle this achievment, I dunno. What is it that you've accomplished that makes you the compass for what is noteworthy or not. And before you start using the "It's my opinion"-card, try backing your opinion up with argument - otherwise it's plain old whining. Thus far, you've not convinced anyone but yourself that this wasn't a good feat by Cry Havoc and friends. The fact that lag/skills/mods affected the outcome? Well dude, welcome to EVE.

It turns out a RL friend of an old corp I'm very much friendly with from time back in Fountain and up north with the MC invasion have lost a RL friend and want to throw motherships at anyone.

I would just like to add a few things seeing where the discussion on this page is going. we know we didnt have "the right amount of support" we had all our friends and there friends. We wanted tama to become a real epic warzone out of 0.0
no we are no ones alts, (saw something about razor or whatever) check the character bios and you will see we are who we are. our mains and alts were in the fight (lol I had 3 and the ceo had 5 for example lol)
I just heard that there was almost a major hotdrop on us, and tbh we were hoping for it. thats why we weren't worried about having huge support on our own, we hoped 8 moms would invoke several major alliances to hot drop causing a massive battle royal sky rocketing the death toll in tama.
We didnt join fw to show we were weak, we joined it because everyone with a mom or titan is in a super alliance, we are the FIRST to do it under a FW flag. We were hoping to stir some life into them and low sec. sadly we only stirred the life of about 15-20 of them lol. oh well lol.
We know about the remote ecm burst, we had some in the starting point pos, but left them expecting to not have a use for them as we werent planning on running. though we werent planning on 20+Hic's in such a VERY short time either, we were hoping to have alot more of the random neutrals in local and militia guys there to cause general chaos.
However jsut because the turn out wasnt as huge, we still had a blast. No tears were shed for the moms, only for the talks afterward of the dedication and epicness of setting eve history. Any who call this a waste is only looking at the statistical victor in this fight. they were out to kill us, we were out to die raising hell. so arent we both victors? (that would have been awesome had NC not messed up there cyno and watching the dreads on us to end up with a new threat :) we were even trying to wispher in the ears of goon and bob, but **** hit the fan so much sooner than we could have imagined. Great work guys!
(btw the mini guys ninja'd most the loot there fc told me so, not wolfy :)
and to all the caldari s****who cheer at this? where were you when we were going down? I only saw a couple of you in interceptors trying to ninja or get lag kills on pod..... so who's fail is it now :)
And to the gallente guys who are ****ed we flew there flag for the losses, perhaps you should be proud your kb's now show you even had 8 moms in your team.... show me another fw team that can say that.... we set history, even compared to all the major alliances of eve with this fight. Be glad we flew your flag for it.

Just so everyone's clear. If i die in a motorcycle accident i want R&K To Suicide eight Motherships in my Honour.
Also i want my corpse to be loaded into shotgun pellets and used to kill as many animals as possible by a group of my friends. I refuse to die without first being responsible for the death of many things.
Looks like these guys set themselves out to get a fight versus a large group of people and got it - and ofcourse good job to BYDI, Cry Havoc, Advocated Destruction and Laconian Syndicate for killing six motherships. Couple questions though:
1. How long did the fight last from opening engagement to the last mothership off the field? 2. Did any Mom's get out that weren't listed on the mails? 3. How was the Motherships Spider tank holding? I noticed the Hel was set up to Armor Tank which is frankly bizarre - Was this so it got Uniform RR or what? 4. Why weren't more of the Heavy Interdictors killed? I can only find three dead on the respective killboards and only one has most of the Motherships on it

1. I think there was about 15 minutes of actually shooting, but the fight lasted a touch over 30 minutes we did 2 stront cycles one at the gate and the other at their off gate safe. 2. two got out, they probably crashed and couldn't get back in or didn't bother as this was a suicide op I am thinking they couldn't get back in. So we got 6 out of 8 3. With the numbers we had spider tanking was a forgone conclusion, however it stood up well I've seen motherships blow up quicker with significantly less people in gang. 4. That I couldn't tell you, they were under supported as they said and we had about 15 HICs present with RR if they got in trouble (yes I know they can't be RR'd with a point on) I know Invicta lost 2 HICs not sure about the rest involved as I am to lazy to look at other killboards, pretty much I think we had enough hics that they couldn't kill them fast enough to be able to do evasive maneuvers.

1. it lasted 15-20min 2. one mom got out at about 50% structure. the other one warped out at some point, but didnt notice when tbh. 3. wasnt the most massive spidertanks ive seen since they all only had 1 remote shield and 1 remote armor each, but it wouldnt have saved them if they had 2 each either. 4. our hic's were good at dropping points and broadcasting for armor when they needed it

1. yeah it was about 15 min. 2. 2 moms as stated 3. the spider tank was actually able to hold alot stronger than it did. anyone who watches the video might notice not alot of repping was going on (besides cap xfers). this was due to the moment the dreads dropped every single one of us got desync'ed in the mom fleet. so only the first ship that we were able to activate our xfers on got anything. otherwise most mods remained unresponsive for most the fight. the hel was armor tanked jsut for a choice of options and to be non standard. we were geared to rr anything that needed it and perma run all moms. 4. same reason as the remote reps. we had all our drones set to assist my interceptor that was rigged for speed (with the 2 cmd ships running all 12 cmd mods w/ max skills, it perma ran at almost 5.5k/s not overloaded) and range (109km target range). it got on the km of the 2 hics that went down. the first one was the best shot we had, the second we barely were able to engage as the desync ****d us.
Note : these arent excuses for dieing, just answering your questions. the fight was great and the guys killing us did a great job with there timing and coord. Even our triage carrier came into the fight as planned but couldnt activate anything effectively.
I have been hearing alot of if we hadnt joined gal fed the lag wouldnt have been so bad, and it seems it may be true as from the videos I have watched and know how the fight went, the enemy wasnt having too many lag issues..... lesson learned. faction war is broken it seems, we even did a petition for a dedicated server blade, which we actually saw them swap to, but the fw aspect seems to have crushed that for us regardless lol.

Lowsec lag for larger fights is universally terrible. Tama at least has the benefit of being a high activity system, so it starts with a pretty good chunk of resources. I think the constant sec status checks and updates are just horrible for performance.
You can help yourself out a bunch by making sure you turn off effects, drone models, brackets, all unnecessary overview info, have tabs to swap between for target categories, etc... We were constantly reinviting guys who dropped (pretty important since our group wasn't mutually blue by default :P) but generally the people with a decent machine and the right configuration were fully functional.

A Hel in a gang like that should be armor tanked tbh; remote rep matters much more than self-rep, but even in this instance, there were just too many dreads to sustain a spidertank.
Also, with the number of friendly HICs there, they could be rotated in and out by putting on their point when they weren't attacked. If they started receiving a lot of damage, they could have withdrawn their superpoint and been instantly buffed up by the carriers on the field.

I think you have to ask a day before the fight so they can reinforce it during DT. This happend between there and no one could predict that unless it was reported by C4NT --------------

Yes, the node was reinforced.
There were still massive amounts of database problems though. People had problems switching ships in station. Also a GM reported problems with Megathrons is particular, fitting/getting into or out of them was an issue.
Strangely, it was quite playable in actual space for me. Inside station was buggered from server up to server down.

Oh noes, dissent, stomp it out quick!
I simply said as Admiral Iceblock and another dissenting voice said later, it wasn't impressive, record numbers or not. Cry Havoc are held to a higher standard and they've downed more impressive prey previously.
Did the guys honoring their fallen air force guy at least fly the motherships in a missing man formation? If yes, then that would've been epic.

actually yes. well WHILE we were able to control there flight as best we could we were in 2 lines flying manual control mostly side by side to keep rr in range of all and keep mobile, the result is the trade mark v flight. and with the agility of motherships and changing direction to try to warp out, thats the best your going to see for a missing man formation.

Edited by: RustyShackleford on 02/08/2009 03:32:59 belated 10/10 to everyone involved. to the op for not takin eve too seriously and jst having a good time. Isk comes and goes, but unique wtf fights in eve are always remembered by everyone involved... imo thats what makes the game worth playing. And to Invt, bydi, cry havoc etc for making me want to shoot myself after checkin the killboard at work... well done. And to the nay sayers... just remember the news team pilots can hop in 8 t1 cruisers tommorow, go to belt 1 in tama and have just as much fun as they did last night... but you have to fly through 18 systems of blues ratting just to find a place to mine veld.
