Not had that much luck with mission ships as of late but after taking the risk of a new ship i bought the Apocalypse and quickly fitted it up and headed out to a level 4. To my amazement i did extremly well in every mission, although the tanking wasnt at all capable, the ability of sniping every ship from 56km (with a falloff of 23km) more than made up for the limited tank.
I run mission as it taps into everything I play for: fun, excitment, feeling good about myself whilst not having the much greater risk in <0.4
Heres the fitting I've used with alot of success:
High:
6x Tachyon Beam Laser I - Gamma L (may go for multifrequency, or faction)
1x Salvager
1x Tractor Beam
Med:
4x Cap Recharger II
Low:
1x Large Armor Repairer II
1x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
2x Tracking Enhancer II (for a better sniper)
3x Heat Sink II
No rigs as of yet (need some help with that one)
Cap stable at my skills
DPS: 249 (357 with Hammerhead II's)
Range: 56km (+23km falloff)
It works fine for me and my playstyle, theres a critical need to warp out as the tank is very limited, I havn't lost it yet and its netted me more than enough to rebuy it all incase I do somehow.
Any advice on how to improve is greatly appreciated.

Offensive:
Drones. Atleast 5x Light Drones to fight of Scramblers+Webbers. Not sure tho if they show up in Highsec Missions aswell. How can you do Missions without Drones?
Try using Pulse with Faction Crystals.
Defensive:
Second EANM+Damage Control or Rat Specific Hardener.
Rigs:
Various choices await you here.
Aux. Nano Pump Rig to increase Repair Amount, Capacitor Rig to regen more Cap, Energy Weapon Rigs, Armor Resistance Rigs etc.

Pulse Apoc with Scorch is a great option.

I'd really hate to have 6 guns on a ship that could field 8, but if it works for you..
However you should replace the plain T1 Tachyons with a named variation. They perform better and some are cheaper even.
Pulse with scorch would be nice, but its like 2 months of training assuming you haven't got Large Energy Turret V or medium T2 yet.

as much as i would love to use tachs on every mission possible (currently only use a sniper apoc for WC room-1) i think it's really best to use both mega modulated beams and pulses (pending the rats you fight) for missions. gold standard being T2 Lg. lasers when ya get there of course!
but i know tachs damage is very addicting. so by all means stay with what you like best.
as for the rigs 1-aux. nano pump and 2-CCCs would be a great idea and what i have fitted on my apoc. when you save your LP up make getting a amarr navy large repper priority-1. for the tougher 4s it really comes in handy.
also at some point consider the use of a tracking computer-II in one of your mid slots w/ a tracking script.

Takinjg the advice above I'll do a bit of poking around with named varients, or even faction if im feeling rich. Thanks for all the advice, its greatly appreciated

If you are stuck on tech 1, perhaps trying the abaddon would be a good idea? Apoc really shines with 8 t2 megapulses with scorch.

Personally I find scorch to be a little too expensive for my tastes. Yes, you do blaze through everything but you're going to need a full set of crystals for almost every other mission

just because you don't have acess, or skills to use T2, doesn't mean you cannot be effective.

For an Apoc, use best named Tachyons until you can field T2 pulse. Scorch is like, a must. Keep all the crystals in your cargo. They don't break and they're relatively cheap. Learn your optimals with each, or keep EFT up for quick reference.
I've never seen a mission this can't handle, although don't take full aggro. Google eve-survival and follow the missions and what aggros what.
I mainly mission in Serpentis, and this only does Sanshas even better. No Angels here, I use a Domi/Raven for that.
