I am pretty new to the vaga and am looking for a basic strategy on flying it. What I like about it is it's ability to engage and disengage quickly much like my old nano ishtar could. What I DONT like is the paper thin tank but hey, ya can't have everything. What I am really looking for is how you engage in a vaga. I figure you want to be at max disruptor range for the most part. Do you run your MWD while orbiting old school nano style? Is it just a matter of hopping the target dies before you?

Assess the opponent, does he have a web? does he have a scram? Does he have faction versions of them? Does he have the skill to overheat them? Do you have backup or will you try to break his tank on your own?
When that is done, orbit him at appropriate range, just outside of harms way, pulse the MWD when you need to void his damage, slow down when you need to deal damage. Bug off when you have to.
That's really all there is to it. Parrots, commence!

This pretty much. Stay at range against blaster ships, using your falloff. Go in close against laser ships to screw with tracking. Thats assuming they are alone because you don't want to be webbed against a gang.

i would advise you to build and T2 fit a few stabbers first to get the feel for it before u go off to pvp in your Vaga. This will help avoid a few lol mails.
PS stay away from HAM drakes with faction webs. A corp mate of mine will attest to this

If you are attacking cruiser...watch out for the Overheated MWD/Web trick.
The target will burn away from you in a stright line with overheated MWD, when you follow him he will turn towards you and try snag you with an overheated web.
It's a neat trick, and many a Vaga has been caught like that. -- "If itĘs true that our species is alone in the universe, then IĘd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little" George Carlin |

So what I'm gathering is that the vaga is one of the few ships able to still "speed tank" to negate damage. Basically that's what I was looking to know. I used to fly a nano ishtar almost exclusively so I am fairly up on the concept of MWD pulsing and fighting at range and such. Thanks for the replies folks.

Actually not. It's a range tank. Do not engage Zealots and Harbs. You will not get under their tracking, and they outrange you.
Beware assault frigs with scrams.

In reality that pretty much means don't engage anything with missiles or T2 laser or Projectile turrets as most of those are going to be able to hit you at 20-24k. Well, not so much projectiles as a stead fast rule but for example a LOT of cane pilots fit ambit rigs so they can hit at that range as well.

Vaga should have better range than cane, but yeah there is no way a vaga will kill a normal cane. The strong point of a vaga is its survivability, not its awesome dps.

Vaga's avoid larger things and gank smaller things. This is the way they work. --- It's like my mom always said... "I knew I should of drowned that one." |

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Projectile users you can usually kill if you rig with ambits and they don't, but lasers and missiles will smoke you 9/10 times. Don't forget to kill their drones. If you're flying solo make sure you have a medium neut.

Correct. However, you should be able to do pretty well against missiles (Drake, ehem), just don't turn on your MWD. Max velocity orbit will reduce their damage significantly. Droneships you can fight, but with difficulty, since you don't have the cap to run your MWD very much. You can probably pop a recon solo, but long range scrams/neuts/webs will ruin your day if they have friends. Watch out for heavy neuts, 2 of them will dry you in a single cycle from full cap, and a Vaga without a MWD is a sad Vaga indeed.

Easiest is to waste couple or more stabbers, you will learn it fast..

So.. what to engage then? Capsules? Shuttles? Lonely T1 frigates? Wow, awesome ship, I must train for it ASAP!

This is why my Vaga sits in station gathering dust...your target selection is so limited these days i hardly see the point of using it over a Ruppi tbh. -- "If itĘs true that our species is alone in the universe, then IĘd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little" George Carlin |

Vaga is probably the best non-cloaky ship you could fly for getting your expensive pod out of a bubble.

You can generally run away from everything that's not a Rapier or a Curse.
I'd probably steer clear of Interceptor gangs too, but that is about it

Cool. Invest and Jump-in a PVP ship that can run away like a lil girl from everyone (except Rapier and a Curse). Awesome. Anything else it can do other then running away like a sissy? We talk about PVP here don`t we? It is a HAC after all... Anything it can kill? A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G ???
