Tomorrow 9 am. I'll book a flight tonight.
Seriously though, the most immediate thing I noticed when I signed on to EVE was that it is a game of specialisation. You can't be everyman and enjoy everything within a realistic time frame, so don't bother. The fact they give you 3 character slots seemed to me to be an invitation to try the three main speheres: combat, industry and pirating. The inhability to concurrently train characters never seemed unfair or punitive to me, sincerely. However, it quickly becomes apparent that if you chose industry to begin your career on your 'main' you were in for several months of 'boring' and would struggle to pad it out with combat skills to go do missions etc. The obvious solution - restrict the use of multiple accounts, but structure it in a way that encourages you to focus your characters not simply be reduced to the Yahtzee paradigm of 'stack and go to bed'. There's lots of ways to allow alts to grow that works, make it so you need to pay isk or buy items to spend on skill points instead, make it so that alts have to have so many hours logged in, or look at allowing the user to distribute sp's accross all alts etc etc etc. I like the slowburn best, but there's no excuse for just saying 'it can't be done fairly and in such a way as to make business sense and keep players happy'. To me that's just lazy.

I went by the downloadable guide that said not to try to do everything on one character not knowing that the training would take so long now i'm trying to balance it so i can make the industry alt work just gettting a bit frustrated with it.
Thanks for the info

I feel your pain. I am in the same boat right now. After 1.5 months I am still 2 months away from being able to make my industry alt work. And, if I had not made rich friends by chance, I'd be quitting the game or re-rolling as I'd never tolerate 20+ day waits for research slots outside of a player owned station facility. There should be a 'Warning: Very Boring' label on industry characters from the off. The game does encourage combat to an extent and the game world itself is largely filled with new players who pursue a mixture of mining and combat as a playing style, which works more or less. But anyone like us who tried to be clever and get a jump on the pew pew suckers and fill their swimming pools with isk within a month or two, is in for a real test of patience.
I tried to get into a combat alt, but quickly realised it would only delay my having any fun on the main thanks to the carte blanche on dualism. Ho hum. CCP make the rules, they make the money to justify the rules. Time and again though I do find myself advocating 'slightly different' rather than 'revolution' in EVE gameplay features, so they got it mostly right I guess.

I didnt realise how good this game was until i stuck it out and began to see how much was in this game i had tried the trial a couple years ago never really gave it enough time but now its got me hook line and sinker. I know that things are going to change within the game, content being one of the priorities from what i hear which hopefully will make things a bit more interesting while training.

Umm. Growing and successful, yes. But to reach "second place", a very long way they still must go.

Hmm has CCP ever specifically stated the rate of growth is entirely new customers? I doubt it.

It's the second largest western MMO aftet WoW — that's where the claim comes from. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

To correct that even further, it is the second largest premium ( as in 12,5Ç - 15Ç per month ) western mmo after WoW, because games like Runescape and Dofus have a ton more subs, but they cost only 1/3 of the price per month.

Newbies...
Get the hint, the forums here, unlike what you may be used to, are a good statistical representation of the general EvE population. Most of us are fine with the one char limit, so it stands to reason that most of the games population is fine with it to. Its the majority CCP is concerned with not the minority, no mater how vocal they may be. ---- --- --- Devs Sign Here; GMs and ISD welcome to :) |

One point you are totally missing is that 2 trained chars on 1 account will not really solve your problem...
Even when you are able to train 2 chars on 1 account, you will not be able to use both at once.
You want a PvP char and a char to make your isk on 1 account... thats all fine.. buy a character from some1 else... but still you will not be PvPing while you make money when you just have 1 account, which means you barely gain anything from a 2nd trained char on your single account.
When you do not want to pay for multiple accounts and want to use your 1 account to be able to make money it might be smarter to focus on combat skills which you can use for PvP and to make a ****load of ISK.
