I'm not in yet mind, it's a long process and I've still got selection to do; all I can say is if you're really thinking about it, contact them sooner rather than later
Well the foods cheap, but thats all you can normally say about it without swearing a lot
Personally I would make sure its something you really want to do though...
Ya, I know that joining the army would be my last resort, I'm not exactly "Army material".
Other than that I know a friend who does a bunch of online contests and such for free stuff or small amounts of cash. Even if it's something like computer parts, you now won't have to pay for a bit of your entertainment to keep you going during these rough times. ________________________________________________

For all the *****ing about illegal immigrants coming into the US and taking our jobs you would think that any true US citizen could find a job...but most of our our citizens are not willing to get some dirt under their nails.

For those of you telling me that I should try for even the crappiest jobs I know I'll hate. trust me, I have. I've applied (and been interviewed) at McDonalds for christsake and they wouldn't hire me. Not just Mcdonalds, every fast food chain you can think of. I don't have enough "experience" or I'm "not who they are looking for".
Maybe I'd get "experience" if you hired people. I've only held one job before and well that was seasonal. Let me tell you I worked my ass off at that job. I ****ing overachieved in the hopes that they'd keep me on after the holidays. I'm trying to derail the thread.

Do you have a criminal record? Do you do drugs? Alcoholic?
McDonalds is a first time employer, experience is never an issue. So is it one of the above 3?

I'm not a convicted criminal. I rarely drink alcohol, and I smoke weed even more rarely (only 4 or 5 times in the past year), but McDonald's doesn't drug test. I'd probably pass one, anyway. I'm trying to derail the thread.

There is a flip side to that. I'm surrounded by Farm land and ranches and with those comes a lot of illegals who work all day in the sun generally with no insurance and they tend to be paid a pittance under the table. Others tend to take menial cleaning jobs either being maids or janitors at places like Albertsons or Wal-mart (who occasionally get caught if you read the papers).
Of course people complain that they are taking our jobs and if these people are found out then they get deported and the person responsible for hiring them can face charges. But when the jobs are offered to legal citizens (Americans), they scoff at the idea of working so hard for such a measly wage.
The big thing is that most of these jobs that we complain about being taken away from us are the absolute bottom rung of the economy ladder. We're talking about laundry or car detailing, ****ty company standards and no future what so ever, not some executive position at a fortune 500 company.
In the mean time on the ranches you've got 20 of these guys sharing a place that may be no bigger than a walk in closet for some people. I'm sure many of them do not enjoy it either as they can get a rancher or farmer who runs the place like a tyrant, telling them to do something that they may not want to do. But what can they do? Go to the police or the BBB? That will be a free ticket back to Mexico.
Personally I'm a bit on the fence when it comes to the illegals around here. Yes it has brought gangs and drugs up here from down south and that's bad rubbish I do not want. But there also those who come here to work and to hopefully make a life for themselves and their family and they so afraid to get caught that they try to make themselves as invisible as possible. They tend to keep quiet and never look you in the eye. For me though I say if they want to become something then they should at least be given the chance, not all of them are bad apples. Yes it would be better if they signed up for a visa but that can take years if it even happens at all and some of them some times just can't wait that long.

Funny story there. I had a period of time where I was having trouble finding a job too. My friend was working for Wendy's and he told me to apply there because they hire everybody and went on to tell me how the latest hire looked like a meth addict straight from the trailer park who hadn't showered in five days. So I applied. They said no. /facepalm
But I started my career working at McD's usually mopping the floor or something and quit 4 months later with no warning (bad friend advice). I did manage to get a job working maintenance at Peterbilt later on but after an on sight injury I was fired. He claimed I wasn't doing my job.
Then I couldn't find work for the longest time until I got hired at Roundtable pizza which later turned into Idaho Pizza. Spent several years there before trying out Albertsons working on the freight crew where the crew were *******s, the manager was the queen *****, and they didn't bother training me at all. In fact they expected me to be top notch on my first night. By the end of the month I told them all to **** off and went back to IPC full time (and damn am I glad I kept that job part time while I was training) Then came Winco. They were opening a new store so I applied there and got a job in their pizzeria (go figure eh). Eventually I got a transfer to the bakery where I spent several years having fun but then we received a new manager who blatantly played the favorites game and I was not a favorite. It wasn't that I was a bad employee, I just didn't kiss ass. With reluctance I transferred to the Freight crew. Was doing fine for a while until we became a skeleton crew and since I was one of the few who had a heister license it meant I had to start pulling in 16 hour days 6 days a week. I had no life. On top of that I was trying to move at the time and it eventually ate away at me so much that I slept in one night and got fired for a no call no show. Just one. I knew crew members there that had up to 8 and were doing fine.
With the money I made from those shifts I took the next 3 months off aside from helping a my friend at his print shop. But eventually funds were running low and I was having a hard time trying to find a job so I broke down and applied to wal-mart and I knew where they were gonna stick me. I did leave quite an impression there though with my freight throwing abilities but I got caught in kind of a love triangle (or whatever shape has like 20 sides because the ***** slept with everyone, just like the store she was open 24 hours a day). I transferred to a different store where the crew sucked ass. I was outperforming everyone by 3 times at least and the other 2 guys that were supposed to work with me were always calling in sick. I could get the job done (1500 pieces in 8 hours) but I'd be sick as a dog by the end of the shift. Finally I got fed up and went to a manager about it and he flat out told me that I will never leave the freight crew so I said watch me and I walked out. Luckily at that time I was bar tending part time in the mornings.
Then I got my lucky break and heard about openings at HP so I applied, they hired me with my print shop experience and I lit fire in that place making promotion after promotion. Even now I wouldn't trade all my bad days at HP for even one good day at any other place and its been 5 years now of being noticed and making a difference

Actually I'm an alien. we need as much humans in the military so we can kill them all, that way when we enslave humanity there won't be soldiers or former soldiers who could lead revolts. I'm trying to derail the thread.

the US Army is currently at 110% of its recruiting quota... they need less people right now, not more. ♥

Bad economy means high rate of recuitment. That's all. The losses in Iraq and Afgahnistan wern't what was causing the personel shortage, it was the fact that until the economic collapse there was plenty of other options available for young potential army people. I wonder if they ditched the stop-loss nonsense, that would be a nice.

It is tough, I moved out when I turned 15. Hard to find a job, finally found one as a bus-boy at a sushi restaurant. I ate only when at work and the boss only allowed me to eat table scraps from paying customers. You have to just suffer through it.
I still completed high school working full time. I placed high enough on army placement test to secure a good position via contract...yes, sign a damn contract or the army will put you in the most miserable job possible.
Start taking correspondence courses immediately, this is free and does not count monetarily toward your army college assistance. I served eight years and completed my BS only two years after with the credits I already earned while still in.
I did not have an easy time in the army as I was very used to looking after myself. Bite your tongue, do what you are ordered even if it makes zero sense in your mind. The army is a very communistic type of society and very different than what America is. If you put in serious effort, you will get serious results out of it.
Only hard, concentrated work/effort without foolish pride will move you on from there.
Good luck
