The following idea was something that sprang out of a Twitter conversation between me (MailDeadDrop), Thorvik, and CCP_Punkturis. I am only claiming about 1/3rd credit.
CCP could promote real-world blood donation (a charitable, if not easily monetizable, goal) by having a "Ships for blood" drive. Players would qualify by presenting evidence that they donated (or attempted to donate) a unit of blood. The evidence would be evaluated by CCP (at their discretion), but might include photos, etc. Reward would be some kind of collectable Blood Raider ship (not a balance-upsetting kind, just something to have like the Quafe Iteron IV).

Jack Carrigan wrote:This is a fantastic idea! As long as the promotion started later on in the year, and went for a good stretch of time. As I just returned from an overseas duty location last December, I won't be able to donate until this coming December. Yes, I'm not imagining a one-month drive or anything that short. As Thorvik indicated, blood is one of those things we always need and never have enough of -- cripes I sound like a mouthpiece for the Blood Raiders themselves; maybe I need to roll a character Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf (a/k/a "Comical Ali").
So a six-month or one-year low-intensity drive would be completely acceptable (to me).
Also, should players be rewarded with a ship for *each* donation made during the time frame?

MDD but this would be a blatant mocking of eve's anemic players, as they cannot give blood. were already mocking the colorblind, armless, and the illiterates, lets not add anemics to that list please. also i ahve a severe phobia of needles, so much so that when i was achild, i tried to stab my doctor with his pen when he wanted to put a needle in my arm. dont like the finger prickings either.
Ba-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Thank you Nariya; that was quite funny. Have a cookie.

OK, sorry; I can't help myself. More idea:
CCP holds a blood drive in Reyk (for employees obviously). CCP video team uses it to make kick-off video for the "Ships for blood" contest.

Dezolf wrote:From the twitter conversation, I also love the idea of a NOS implant - you need to get that energy back somehow! :P Yes, I had intentionally left the NOS implant out (which was Thorvik's idea). I am trying to stay away from asking for in-game content that affects the balance of anything, since that would (I assume) just further complicate matters for CCP.
In that vein (heh), I've thought maybe the ISD folks would be useful in vetting the evidence, so that CCP doesn't have any more work to do besides creating the reward ship and seeing that it is appropriately awarded.

(Actually this would be a neat idea, if a little crazy. Frankly I'd be okay with a little imbalance for a genuinely good cause) Shandir, it may be low-blood lightheadedness, but your post literally had me laughing loudly. "Bleed-to-win" has to be the funniest turn-of-phrase I've seen all year. Microtranfusion is a hysterical close second. You, Sir or Madam, should consider comedy writing as a vocation.

Trollin wrote:i dont think a ship is in order, and there are lots of people who cant participate, plus it would be an onerous task to "vet" a bunch of "evidence", this game is full of scammers and psychos. I cant imagine people will play fair when it comes to a collectable ship maybe a decal that can be applied to ships, but def not a ship. You can't donate blood if... (Long list snipped. --MDD) Yes, some people may try to defraud the system. There's not a whole lot that can be done for those folks. I think I'll have to depend partly on people's better nature.
Yes, vetting the evidence will take some effort, although I'm not proposing that the vetting be overly exhaustive.
The list of deferrals varies from country to country. Some are permanent, and some are temporary. Yes, some Eve players may never be able to donate blood. I could get snarky and superior, but I just don't have it in me. Eve is not fair. Life is not fair. But while we are fighting imagined monsters, real people are fighting real monsters. If I can encourage others to help in that real fight by dangling imaginary baubles in front of them, I will dangle them without hesitation.

Agreed, with the caveat that it has to be a friend who isn't already planning to donate. You have to convince them to become a new donor (or resume as a long lapsed one). The objective is to increase the number of donors.

more Blood Raider ships? Well, if CCP goes for the whole idea then yes, there'd be some new Blood Raider ship. I would imagine it would be something along the lines of the Interbus shuttle or the Quafe Iteron IV: useful, unique, but not balance-upsetting.

Jackal Datapaw wrote:I can't give blood, I had a tumor and take medication Well, I have a mixed reaction. On the one hand, I'm sorry you had to go through the shock of discovering the tumor and the medical procedure(s) to deal with it. On the other hand, I'm glad you were able to get (presumably life-saving) medical treatment for it and are here today enriching Eve.
As mentioned earlier in this thread, if you are personally unable to donate, a proxy donation (e.g. get a friend to donate on your behalf) is acceptable.

I was considering setting this up as a player-run promotion (giving players Blood Raider ships for real-life blood donations), so I petitioned for a ruling on whether using in-game assets to reward out-of-game *charitable* behavior was permitted. Alas, the answer is no ("While we can appreciate your desire to get others involved in noble acts like this, we ultimately would not be able to permit in game compensation for non-EVE activities as per rule #10 of the Terms of Service: You may not market, sell, advertise, promote, solicit or otherwise arrange for the exchange or transfer of items in the game or other game services unless it is for in-game sales of in-game services or items").
So it appears that if we want bleed2win to become real, we are going to have to lobby CCP to do it.

I still think this is a worthy cause. I've simply got to find an acceptable out-of-game reward that neatly ties into Eve.
