more Blood Raider ships? Well, if CCP goes for the whole idea then yes, there'd be some new Blood Raider ship. I would imagine it would be something along the lines of the Interbus shuttle or the Quafe Iteron IV: useful, unique, but not balance-upsetting.

As Trollin quite rightly stated, there are many reasons someone cannot give blood. One that is missing on the list above is if you have handled any blood from a monkey (on the Canadian Blood Services forms). You can do one of two things in that event:
1) Gilbaron is correct that you can check the box not to use your blood if you want to give and are not able for whatever reason or the better alternative
2) Have a friend donate in your stead.
The easiest way to verify is a photo from your donation. Have the nurse/technician take a picture with a camera phone. You can probably make a general assumption that if the person plays EVE, they have a cell phone with a camera in it and know how to upload from camera to an e-mail.
There are a lot of things that can go wrong but conversation and collaboration is the name of the game and we can flush it out as we develop the idea.
Scammers will be scammers so the in-game item should be one where there will be an overly large degree of profit or benefit.
I, personally, like the Blood raider ship idea. Maybe a Frigate of no special attribute other than it doesn't get attacked by the Blood Raider faction? I also like the NOS implant but that may give an advantage so that scammers will try harder to scam the contest.
Bottom line really is that there are so many good things that can come of this. If a scammer scams some pixels from someone else, so what. So many multiples of *Real Lives* will be saved and helped by it that it doesn't matter if the scammer gets a shiny pixelated ship |

there has to be a "3) do something a capsuleer would do" in there somewhere ...
you know, it wouldn't be so hard to get this to work.
CCP -- "Hey Red Cross, we have this really cool idea to get people to give blood, but we need a little help ... (more stuff, something about blood raiders)"
RC -- "Uhhh...? 'Blood Raiders' ?? I don't even ... "
CCP -- "Don't worry about that. If anyone comes up and knows who the Blood Raiders are, just give them a card"
(time) RC Sign-in volunteer -- "One last question, you know that logo?" Eve Player -- "WHO LET THE BLOOD RAIDERS IN HERE?! EVERYONE RUN!" RC -- "that's the fifth person this hour... WTF? ... oh well, take this card"
(time) Player --> OK so take this code and redeem... \o/ Blood Raider Shuttle! |

a blood raider shuttle perhaps
and im still against "evidence" and vetting just do honor system and save all that man hours for something useful
ofc it is acceptable to accept photos if people wish to upload "evidence" and use for publicity, but should be left to individual discretion.

I think this is a great idea!!
I work across from a Red Cross office and give blood every three months but would love to see more people do so.
If it was not for blood donors I would have lost my wife who literally died on the operating table twice when she had gone septic from severe Crohns. I am thankful everyday for those who donated and allowed me to continue to share my wonderful life with my wife.

Being a recipient from blood transfusions from a really nasty motorcycle accident, I can tell you that I wouldn't be here today unless for those that did give blood.
I would support this in my area without any hesitation.

The only problem with that would be that CCP (and/or Red Cross) would need to distribute those cards etc. Also, not every country donates at(?) a RC office.
I should also note that at my local bloodbank one first has to go through vetting of ones blood. Only after three months will one be able to give the first pint of blood (or however much it is). This should also be considered if CCP goes ahead with this.
I am still all about this campaign. There are a few initial hurdles, but with catch phrases and headlines such as those posted in this thread... It can't fail!
Edit: Oh, also, my university's department of CS's friday-bar (...) has a similar concept; Beer for blood. Donate blood, get a pint. It inspired quite a few CS students (as far as I know, anyway). Now, okay, they are students and, as such, poor - and they didn't need that blood anyway (but they did, of course, need the beer). But if that's enough incentive to bring about some students, why shouldn't some "bling" be incentive enough to bring about a few EVE-gee... Players. |

Jackal Datapaw wrote:I can't give blood, I had a tumor and take medication Well, I have a mixed reaction. On the one hand, I'm sorry you had to go through the shock of discovering the tumor and the medical procedure(s) to deal with it. On the other hand, I'm glad you were able to get (presumably life-saving) medical treatment for it and are here today enriching Eve.
As mentioned earlier in this thread, if you are personally unable to donate, a proxy donation (e.g. get a friend to donate on your behalf) is acceptable.

I was considering setting this up as a player-run promotion (giving players Blood Raider ships for real-life blood donations), so I petitioned for a ruling on whether using in-game assets to reward out-of-game *charitable* behavior was permitted. Alas, the answer is no ("While we can appreciate your desire to get others involved in noble acts like this, we ultimately would not be able to permit in game compensation for non-EVE activities as per rule #10 of the Terms of Service: You may not market, sell, advertise, promote, solicit or otherwise arrange for the exchange or transfer of items in the game or other game services unless it is for in-game sales of in-game services or items").
So it appears that if we want bleed2win to become real, we are going to have to lobby CCP to do it.

We need waaaaaaaay more support. I know it's not "Sexy" to most.
It's just cool to save a few lives with something you really have too much of. Sounds funny, but it's true.

Nariya Kentaya wrote:[ but this would be a blatant mocking of eve's anemic players, as they cannot give blood. were already mocking the colorblind, armless, and the illiterates, lets not add anemics to that list please.
also i ahve a severe phobia of needles, so much so that when i was achild, i tried to stab my doctor with his pen when he wanted to put a needle in my arm. dont like the finger prickings either.
I'd love to see how long someone would have to sit there with a finger prick to give a pint of blood. Hell unless you had some sort of anti-coagulate disorder I highly doubt you'd get it before the prick healed over.
Promoting real world charitable aims is never a bad thing. I like the blood for Bloodraiders idea. |

I still think this is a worthy cause. I've simply got to find an acceptable out-of-game reward that neatly ties into Eve.
