I'm sure most people who love games in general are amped on this announcement. I know people are complaining about sovereignty issues and but think of the possibilities on the positive side!
As one example: What if CCP allows us to build weapons and vehicles for the forces on the ground? That opens up an even larger market for the economy!
Do you know how many people play games like Halo and Call of Duty into the wee hours of the night? I do. I play them too.
As it does in EVE; money dictates all. The large alliances in EVE will STAY in control of the same systems for that reason alone. There will be a top tier of players in DUST just like in every other FPS ever. Better ground forces will cost more money, the market demand for those ground forces will put the price WAY out of reach for small corporations.
Pure and simple. Large alliance will hire DUST players that small corporations won't be able to afford.
Post more cool ideas and possibilities and lets get excited together. There's plenty of negative postings, let's try and have a beacon of hope in this post.

DUST will let me hire an army of 8 year olds to do boring pos duty. And people are complaining? Parrots, commence!

Edited by: Mutnin on 19/08/2009 02:48:44 I dunno I've been gaming a very long time.. I had a Sears Pong for Christ sakes. I had loads of consoles over the years, but games on the PC have always been better.
I am a fan of FPS games but personally think they suck on consoles. I know CCP is doing this dust game because the console market appears to be more attractive however what I think they are missing is the short attention span of the average console gamer.
They just don't play the same game for years at a time like a PC MMO player will. Console gamers are all about the next new thing and I really don't see how they will convert them into a subscription model.
I personally think they are making a mistake by doing this game only for the console market as the games have short life spans for the gamers before they move on. PC gamers on the other hand tend to find a game they like and stick with it.
edit... damn I was supposed to be positive..

You have Eve players who ship and hire Dust players around, a new market opens up with weapons and tanks and drops them along with dust members that allows them to take a planet while you siege the systems POSes.
You can have Eve players fly down to the surface to give arial support, drop more DUST pilots off, give them bonuses on the ground.
You have commanders in Dust order where troops are dropped and broadcast where to fight towards.
This game also helps expand on other technologies and pushies other updates forward. API Key will be used more and looked at possibly. You have more updates that will be pushed forward on development life to compliment Dust, such as Planetary flight, graphic updates to planets / moons / other stuff. You're going to see a more dynamic aspect to Eve. And this is more than an awesome idea for Faction Warfare.

I can understand that sentiment about console games. I fought it for years since I liked PC FPS way better (mostly cuz i'm better at them) BUT I finally caved. I don't think one is better then the other, they just have a different feel. For example I can cream people at a PC Fps. I am mediocre at best at console FPS, but I have gotten better over time just as I got better playing PC FPS. I actually grew to enjoy the console FPS because of the widespread use of headsets. Even though 12 year olds are super irritating when playing unorganized matches, talking to your friends and other good players in a squad that is coordinated enhances game play 10 fold. On a PC i hated booting ventrilo or teamspeak, having it build into my console controller so much easier to network and play tactically with other people.

I think it's a great idea. Though I have one small request: I know the game has been in development for 3 years but could CCP make it a strategy fighting RPG instead.
This is only a minor change but it would greatly improve the game.

Because the argument is the same, why should I change my counter argument. It's just going to be a circle of arguing for the next few weeks. Not to mention I trimed down the rage and left just the idea which were actually my ideas on how it would be.
Keep thinking you got it figured out. ________________________________________________

If they do this right, we're going to wind up with a ton of new Eve players, an awesome FPS game, a whole new set of market niches, a more immersive game experience, and a constant reminder of just how awesome naval strategic bombardment can be. Seriously, can you imagine the drool value of whacking an enemy strongpoint with a Doomsday, then having an infantry rush backed by dreadnoughts throwing fire support, Dust fighters, Eve fighters, and tanks rolling over the ruins to take a city? Hell, I'll just be happy the first time a "console kiddie" steals a few billion from some elitist ***** of an Eve player.
Originally by: Inspect0r Cl0useau I am positive it will fail.
Yes, there has never before been a successful console game. Ever. Seriously, can you keep your pessimism out of the "Optimism ITT" threads?

No positive side of being only available for consoles: this is most stupid thing CCP has ever done (and that's saying a lot).
I like how CCP has great ideas, but their implementation sucks balls all the time. There are so many things wrong with going with a console only game I don't know where to get started.
I'm fine DUST and EVE being tied, as long as you don't need more than one subscription and platform to play it. Otherwise is a total sellout from CCP to whoever they are releasing the game to (MS or Sony), and a total insult for the loyal playerbase from who they have been pocketing to develop all these side projects in detriment of EVE-O, which is fine if we gt soemthing back in return, but we aren't obviouslly.
The crapptastic support on this game and now this.... is just terrible, thanks I can keep playing on PLEX if not I would have to say **** it and be done, and no my stuff would be trashed ***s.

Originally by: minerboob The following is a list of things I think ROCK about the new DUST game:
1. Largest Eve Universe expansion ever. 2. Biggest increase in sandbox capabilities in Eve Online history. 3. Added measures to help control and avoid region monopoly's. 4. Provide first player interaction within Eve environment. 5. Entry point toward console gaming market(increased stability, cleaner code, less debugging) 6. Beginnings to multiple front Eve universe(ground, space, stations & ships). 7. Making eve better!
To the naysayers and doomsday proclaimers... Did you honestly think Eve Online would wither away and die as everything else around you continued to evolve? If yes, then Sayonara and good riddance!
Upward and onward I say

And the great thing is that if you don't like those annoying console players, you can just steamroll with a naval force and take sovereignty that way.
One factor amongst many, who says we're reliant on 8-yo console players?

actually this may be worth it if there are a lot of ways tog rief these console farts. WIS is an expansion which allows EVE players to walk around stations, etc.

Using titans to portal dropships and shuttles with men in to a hostile planet and breaking a blockade that way.
Giving medals to those on the ground.
A use for trade items like small arms
Being able as a sovereign entity to build planetry defences like mines/defence satellites/giant cannons that shoot into space, before the enemy gets there.
More stuff.

No, it's just BS all we get after years of paying subs is hellokitty in stations and dudes who never heards about eve less paid for it get a full FPS which affects sov and its tied into the game.
If you don't see how retarted is that you're blind.
WIS is an expansion which allows EVE players to dress leather and walk around stations.
Dust514 is a console shooter/rts which will tie into EVE and affect sov. |

Edited by: Minigin on 19/08/2009 03:24:12 posting my support for DUST!
i would really like to see DUST become an isk sink for eve! so perhaps make it as an alliance sets up a contract similar to contracts in eve atm (with an isk amound and job to be done) and merc corps accept it on that basis.
if their target is successfully taken or whatever they get their isk. if they dont a penalty needs to be impossed. for instance thier rating may drop which means they cant accept certain contracts until tehy work their rating back up doing smaller contracts.
the isk has to be used for something in the DUST game though, and in my opinion SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to be transfered back to eve... at all!
so ideas need to be put forward as to waht the isk would be used for in DUST?
edit: maybe buying rating to do the bigger contracts? . MINIGIN! The original colour poster - now surrounding you in limegreen.
