I agree about the trailer suggestion. Or just post the RONA video from earlier and Leafo's videos that's inspiring enough!

Seriously that would be cool to have more promotion displayed over the net for getting new customers. Maybe for Cyber Cafes too. Cafes are a place where people can discuss about games.
I co-own a Cyber cafe in France, and my computer can be seen by my customers. With a bit of chatting I managed (if i remember well) to bring 9 players (two have 2 accounts), including, people that talked to their friends and later took one account too.
Maybe some displays to show would help the promotion. Of course I dont know if it cost a lot to do this kind of advertising maybe its not profitable.
Also could you put a link to your main partner that offers 15 day trial. Last time I couldnt find one for a friend Mmorpg.com had ended their offer few days before so he had to try the game with a 7 day trial (he took an account anyway ). No sig, this is making lag this forum, mine is 59 octets !

i take offence to that too. just about all of my (Eve) friends here in the US are under the age of 25. we are not lazy 'yanks' as you wicked people like to call us. granted yes some of us are. and may they be damned to hell for leaching the system on purpose. but many of us are not. please think before speaking, and dont turn my post on me.

I'd like to see some Eve models come out. I'd love to have a model of the Apocalypse on my desk at work. You can bet it would be a conversation item!!!!
Likewise more Eve store items. It's a good selection now but more T-Shirts (in bigger sizes too up to 4-5XLT). I've noticed more then a few gamers are like me and we have a "few" (haha) extra pounds to deal with.
As someone who has owned his own business in the past and is going to start a new one next year marketing is very important to me. Eve's marketing has been minimal yet look at the results! Eve has more player loyalty than most MMPORPG's I can think of. I've seen many people comment about bringing people into the game (just one for me).
I recall from my time after beta in another corp (as another character) being in the US we had many people in our corp. We were mostly older players (35+) and were mostly successful businessmen in real life. Yet we found Eve a challenge. While many of my friends left due to the lack of market content and a stockmarket I can see some coming back with the exciting new Shiva market developments.
Eve has so much to offer even a casual gamer. I'd encourage CCP to make a good trailer video (hire Leafo) and arrange for some model ships (conversation pieces) and get some more tee-shirts in (conversation clothes).

The drought of US marketing seems to be the legacy of S&S, who saw fit to ignore Eve and hope it would die.
I'm US and have brought a number of people into Eve. My one friend holds out due to the subscription issue but he's never played any game he's had to pay for every month. What can you do?
I think exposure, any exposure is good and [gulp] agree with Crice. Publicity of the community videos is a great idea too

Yes, but it lacks the whole feel. After a while it seems arcadish, not to mention it isn't as "big", and lacks the role-playing aspect. And Universal Combat is utter garbage. If CCP were to release a single player counterpart there would be no real competition, as the other two just don't offer what is here. Hell, it's why I'm paying a monthly for it.

Yes, more trailers are good. Do them along the lines of the Caldari Pirate one you guys had, that one rocked.
Better yet, have the PLAYERS make a new trailer for EVE! We have seen some pretty good Fraps videos from the community, take advantage of them! -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

MMOGs are far from niche markets anymore, if you have seen the sheer numbers pegged by Chinese-Korean-Japanese MMOGs in the market like Ragnatok On Line, Legend of Mir, and FFXI.
I'm talking about the US, and to a lesser extent, the European markets... Asian gamers are an entirely different animal so to speak.
About the trailer idea... A new one does need to be made. One of the first memories of EVE I have is watching the trailers I was able to find on the internet... ---------------

Hopefully, once Shiva is released, CCP will start pushing awareness of the EVE Affiliate system...especially to large American broadband companies(imagine having links to EVE on the homepages of Comcast Cable and SBC/Yahoo DSL). I believe the affiliate agreement would pay each one of those companies $7 for each new EVE subscriber(from the link).

Well in USA there was never an agressive marketing so its not EVE's fault if its not a huge success over there. But one things is sure that american people (including me) can be very critical when it comes to pc-games. When eve was released one year back it was dificult game with pirates playing havoc all around the eve universe, many people left game out of sheer frustration but since it has developed so much during this one year time and is more n00b friendly it deserves to be once again marketed like a whole new game in US... well rest is upto CCP.. do they want to save american people from World of warcraft, City of heroes and Star war galaxies?? or not? ================================================== Its not the size of dog in the fight but the size of fight in the dog which matters ================================================== |

The best marketing I can think of for EVE is for me to play with my dorm room door open some more. The kid down the hall walking in and watching me and my corpmates sneak behind enemy lines to kill something bigger than us, while hearing what's going on on Ventrilo, has got to be better than any 30 second ad, 2 min vid, or page in some magazine.
Every ad trys to make it's game look fun. Actually watching how cool EVE can be proves that the game is fun.

Originally by: mxmus Happy to see a thread on Marketing, but I am the CMO here at CCP and wanted to give a little overview of what has been done, and what will be done.
The last few months we have done webmounts on FilePlanet, Gamespy, MMORPG, Warcry, MPOGD, and Gamershell. The focus has been exclusively on digital distribution as CCP does not have a publisher that could manage the physical distribution. Also, with better Internet connectivity the need for todayÆs retailers is slowly disappearing. These webmounts combined with few reviews have been the backbone of the recent growth, and majority of the new players entering EVE last few months have been from the U.S. I would have loved to do more, but then I would have had to increase your subscription :) So most of our resources have so far been invested in the development of EVE and not the marketing.
Right now we are focusing on working with editors, both in Europe and in the U.S. to ensure that EVE gets properly reviewed. We donÆt need more 3 hour reviews as some of the early reviews where.
Shortly after this expansion there will be a much larger marketing campaign in both the U.S. and in Europe, which in fact will be the true launch of EVE as it has never been extensively marketed. As some of you know, our original publisher, Simon & Schuster, closed their interactive department shortly after the release of EVE which left us in a very difficult spot. Fortunately we got ourselves out of that situation, and you, the players, helped tremendously.
Obviously we are still a small company compared to Sony, EA and others, but EVE is one of very few MMOGÆs that is showing strong growth so in due time we will catch up.
As EVE continues to grow, as it has, you will see more and more marketing which in turn will bring you more players to torture.
Regards,
MXMUS
just admit that you put drugs into eve that makes us all addicted to this little piece of software!! Wanna fly with me?
