Edited by: Trenjeska on 24/08/2009 21:07:08 I really do hope it is not THAT high in pure faction standing requirements... I do have some 9 or 8 with some corporations, but as I dont want to go below -2 for any faction, it is hard to get above 5 with one...
Edit: any faction = empire factions for me.

Edited by: Aranis Nax on 24/08/2009 21:22:05 nice change of pace from regular BOOOORRING missions but tbh the minmatar epic arc wasn't all that epic. And the only branch in it that I could see was the choice of getting the special reward or not getting it, not much of a choice is it? Then there's the issue with it going to ammatar space, which can be an issue for longtime minmatar mission runners who got less then -5 standings with them(even with diplomacy 4-5)

You don't actually need 6.8 to the faction, but to the first agent's corp (they don't check standings after that). The Minmatar arc, for example, starts off with the Brutor tribe, so you really just need 6.8 for them.
I had hoped this devblog would tell us a little more about upcoming arcs, particularly those that might involve the so-called "pirate factions" (e.g. Angel Cartel, Sansha Nation, The Syndicate, etc.). If the arc starts off with someone else then goes there, perhaps this could help as part of a fix to the faction standings hole (get below -4 and you will never work for that faction again). -- EVE Blog EVE Twitter |

Genuine question, which probably has an answer that is obvious to everyone else but me, but where do we go to get these arcs started I like the sounds of them, and will definitly give them a go if I qualify to get them offered.
I think its good that the Devs are developing all aspects of the game and not just catering to the rich and the famous that are the 'hardcore' pvp'ers. That said, I hope that they push the arc missions out to the pirate factions.
It will be a nice twist of those that live purely in 0.0 and do missions 'out there' get offered part of an arc that sends them into hostile territory.

I haven't done the epics myself - don't have the standings for any of the starter agents. That said, from what I've read about them, you made a slight miscalculation with your rewards. All but one of them are more or less vendor trash, the sort of items that nobody this side of Entity could get excited about, or else laughably small sums of isk. The last one is a faction version of an item that sells from NPCs for 90 million(the Hyasyoda Mobile Laboratory), and as such can be expected to be worth probably a couple hundred mil going forward.
So I guess I have to ask - is there a reason the Caldari epic gives you a reward at least ten times as valuable as any of the others?

Woohoo!
I am very excited for these. Running regular missions solo does get boring (especially when the same ones get offered again and again); running them with friends a bit less so. Having something to pursue that is more along the lines of "choose your own adventure" (story branching) with an ongoing plot to keep the brain engaged is something I have been hoping for ever since I started playing, and I look forward to more epic arcs of varying degrees of difficulty (level 2, level 3) and varying degrees of flavor.
Thank you!

Definately more fun than running normal missions. I've only just started the Gallente one, but certainly like the non-expiry too.
Have you thought about Epic Archeology / Hacking / Salvaging arcs?
Definately for Archeology it would be a great feeling that you're really headed somewhere with your researches, learning all about the culture and history of those pesky Wang Chungs.

Just seen a list of the rewards in the mission form. Sorry, but they are not epic. They are LOUSY. You have so many nice items in the database, +6 or +7 attribute implants, the DED skillbook etc. But instead we get some blue pills for example ... and you call it epic.

I guess they'll answere this with:
"Nothing is keeping your from doing the other epic arcs ..."
Yay, for following the ingame "immersive" story and sticking to one side of the war..... :-( .
But yes, some slightly shinier rewards would have been nice (BPCs of faction navy anyone?). ----- Garr Anders

Your use of the word "Unique" when it comes to items that are rewarded is a lie. So stop doing that.
The storyline in these missions however, is a rather awesome kind of awesome. So keep it up.

I began the Amarr epic arc, and, I could notice that what you call veteran is really dangerous people!
It makes a change to the usual low DPS, not so long range NPC BS. It cut my friend's ishtar to structure in a few shots and hurts badly my absolution, that's kind of a huge change. The green crewed ones where just lol, after the spanking we take from veterans, seeing the lot of them is kinda frightening, and then there's the relief of seeing they are really green crew... -- Fanfest memories : I looked in your eyes And I found the galaxy Now I'm stuck in eve.

1) could have used more testing on the test server but that was a problem because of ...
2) the agent that gets you going is in some random useless corp nobody is going to have lots of standings for and most of us prefer to not get shot in other empires space
3) most of the EPIC rewards are EPIC fail

Question to the dev: Will there ever be an epic mission that requires to have negative standings with a certain corp ?
For example. Im with the Caldari, I would love (or hope) to be able to start an epic arc mission that requires me -2.0 for example against Gallente because.. ??!!?? well caldari hates gallente from a story perspective. As you can see the possibilities are endless with this.
on another note, its a good thing those npc's hurt more and theres less. I like it. Finally my raven can take a good beating....Im afraid to say it but I like it.
And for the people who wants epic arc in null sec. Well its not the best alternatives but some missions (at least in the caldari version) can bring you to null sec. I go through a sling shot bubble and 1 huge arse bubble .. lol, that was fun.

1. Pack your bags. Be expected to travel through different regions, constellations, and systems. New Eden is a big place: This is your chance to explore part of the universe and to poke at EVE's hidden corners, the nooks and crannies of deep space. Does this mean that you will have to travel 8 jumps every mission just to get to that deadspace complex?
Yes. YouÆll have to every few missions and itÆs absolutely not necessary from the storyline point of view. Of course the remote mission offer and completion works when you are near the agent, but for sure if you have to go 10 jumps away the guy will want to see you in person.
2. If you have good standing (or at least, non-negative standing) with a particular faction, try the arc. That will not be an obstacle for you.
Yes sure, the standings barrier is quite high and you need either faction standings or standings for some obscure corporation.
3. Ebb and flow. We have designed these missions to be the equivalent difficulty of level 4 missions. However, this will not just be wave after wave of battleships and elite cruisers waiting for you after each gate.
Yes, the majority of them missions are exactly that.
4. Into the void. Branching provides us an opportunity to offer different play styles within each story without forcing any one upon the player.
Branching points are few and far between.
8. Just desserts. You will be rewarded for your actions. We'll make sure of that. Lots of ISK? You betcha. Cool modules and equipment to use and play with? Yep. We didn't forget about those. I won't tell you exactly what we have in store, but I can tell you that each of the four arcs has at least one unique reward. Some may have more, based on the ending you choose or the path you take. You may have to do some nefarious things in order to get the sweet loot, but that's all a part of the epic arcs experience.
A few isks? Yes ofc. Useless modules? Yep.

I was extremely offended by the way the Gallente epic arc is built. I quit it after half a dozen mission because it forces my character to fire on allies and refugees left and right. As Pottsey put it "We have no lead, so kill some random innocent people until they talk". This happened after the first choice in the arc - all information I was given was "Low sec/illegal dealings or High sec/legal missions". So I went on the path of a mass murderer - after chosing the branch described as following the law.
This only seems to happen on the Gallente arc, which also has the crappiest reward ever - I admit that I am not sure if the 700k m¦ counterfeit credits the Minmatar get have been exchanged for something serious by now. But yeah, a module giving you 2km extra drone control range that is stamped with the Federation's own SS trademark certainly is worth slaughtering countless refugees and innocent Federation citizens.
By the way the point to quit was when the agent told my (Intaki) character that all Intaki are criminals and need to get killed, so go to that Intaki village and blow it up.
I remember a time when CCP at least pretended they are impartial towards the various factions. But their latest actions convinced me that they are firm supporters of the Caldari faction and anyone stupid enough to follow anyone else will get burned as he has to fight a war against the people making the very game rules.
CCP already has heard my opinion on that. I don't support someone who treats me and the views I've decided to represent in game unfairly.
Epic arc? No. Epic reason to quit EVE.

Rewards are simply laughable, considering these are lvl 4 arcs and meant to be played by more experienced players. Who decides on these items? Ask the guys who are playing this game, and dont take it from your experience of your "regular play" as devs..
For me, it could have been a bit more story. For an epic arc it wasnt that epic tbh.
Branching only happens once? ONCE?.. Remember that huge picture of your concept of epic arcs? afaik there were FAR more than 2 or 3 lines.
Where are the consequences? Everything goes without consequences? Oh nice, really... like the poor mission runners really cant be threated with negative consequences in any way, no we cannot do that..
And for the game design, with scripted sequences in complexes and stuff.. dont tell me that even one full time guy worked on it. I'm pretty sure I could do a better job in months of work if you give me a fiction writer to assist.. and I'm not even a freaking game designer at all..
Sad to say, but imho CCP lost its vision. It's all about how to attract more and more customers to pay. Of course that's usual business, but you guys seem to have lost your love for the project. Otherwise you would have realized that eve could do better really..
harsh words, but thats only because I was here from the beginning and saw how much you cared about this game. Still best game out there, but it doesnt get better at the moment, quite the opposite.

Dramatic in an Eve mission = More walls of text.

People play games to see dramatic, not read it.

I remember from last fanfest how Oveur showed this MASSIVE branching out structure for epic arcs. And I also remember he saying something about GREAT rewards at the end of them.
What happened CCP? It took too long to complete, it didn't fit in a SPRINT so you chopped half off of it?

nah some of the rewards are actualy unique so somebody made them up
the guy who made the up however didnt stop to think that a regular 5% implant is stronger than 2% and 2% and youd have to be poor or silly to choose the 2 and 2 over the 5

Yeah, I'm not saying they whipped half of it away but from all the hype I had this big immersive thing in my head that'd take weeks of dedicated time to play through revealing some great insight in to the faction you were playing for.
Instead, despite being in a CNR whooping all kinds of L4's I get the finger despite a 4.4 with GalFed and a solid 9+ with FedNavy... and the whole thing looks like a bit meh in terms of rewards and play length. On the other hand the reports of certain missions eating ships makes me smile.
