i fly a golem with tech II salvager & salvaging rigs and make good money grinding lvl 4s with caldari navy. salvaging is a big part and with my tech II salvager/salvaging rigs i usally fend off the salvage thieves but as everyone knows with the new rig system it will be a big disadvantage to a golem with 2 rig slots vs a kestrel or cormorant with 3 rig slots and their cheap rigs, it would be a shame for a tech II mission specialty ship with tech II salvager and tech II salvaging rigs (well over 1B) to be out salvaged by a tech I frigate. my idea: give the marauders a bonus to salvaging. any ideas/suggestions to what kind of bonus would be appropriat to lvl the field?

Swiss army knife ship outdone in one aspect by a specialized (but cheaper) ship? Say it aint so!
I honestly think Marauders get enough carebear bonuses as it is.

the only bonus i see linked to carebear (which you know nothing about) is the tractor beam bonus which doesnt help when the crum snatchers wait by the marauder to try and out salvage it when the wreck is draged in.

my sugestion would be either to either lower the calibration on the destoyers and frig class ship or to give the marauders a 5% bonus to salvaging per level

Edited by: Garthran on 26/08/2009 09:00:36 Or maybe don't run missions in hubs. Ninja salvaging is a fad that is largely propagated by Suddenly Ninjas and their ilk. Get away from a mission hub, and you won't see it. Initially the ninja salvagers were numerous and spread out; now, in my experience at least, there are fewer of them, and they tend to focus on areas where they're guaranteed a) ready access to large quantities of missions and b) ready access to a market for their goods. Slightly less popular agents are either 1 or 2 points lower quality than their mission hub equivalents, or they're a few jumps further away from market hubs. You can survive either, with the benefit being: no more salvage ninjas.
Or you can stay where you are and deal with the ninjas.
I fly a Kronos myself. Marauders don't need any more buffing. They're already the best ships out there for chewing through level 4s.
Also- reword your post to call them salvage ninjas, not salvage thieves. Or else a half-dozen of them will flame this thread to the top of the forum about the legality of their chosen profession. ------------------------------------------------ Suicide drones?

when you can savage cloaked i might call it salvage nija's :P back to topic, seriously is this a unreasonable request? im just asking for something to make it equal to a smaller ship capabilities with 3 rig slots, it should not be at a disadvantage rigged with with salvage rigs vs a smaller ship with much cheaper salvage rigs. and im talking apples to apples comparison, the marauder with tech I rigs should be able to salvage the SAME speed as a smaller ship with tech I rigs. so if the smaller ship has tech II rigs and the marauder has tech I rigs then yes the smaller ship should have the advantage. do you agree?

This. You think that just because a dedicated salvager can outsalvage your marauder you need a bonus to make it better? You already get 40km tractor beams so stop whining. Pew Pew Lazorz!!! |

my golem is a dedicated salvager and i have not been out salvaged by anything (yet), i could just see it comming with the cheap rigs on the tech I frigs. and what makes you think im whining? it was a idea and i ask for opinions. and whats up with "move out of that hub"? i dont mission in 1 hub and have not had a problem with salvage thieves. they will never get rich probing me out in missions and trying to get a piece of salvage, i salvage as i destroy ships. their time would be better spent doing their own missions raising standings. well i must be the only one trying to make a honest living in eve and guess there is no interest in my idea. ok, thanks for the imput.

just do what I do. when someone comes into my missions, I just pop all my wrecks till they go away. It can take a mission or two, but they get the hint.
I LOVE killing something 50KM away, they AB out to it, and I pop it JUSt as they start salvageing it.. :) They get nothing, and it REALLY ****es them off :)

your not getting what im saying, i dont mind salvage thieves, i dont get mad when they come into my mission, salvage thieves are fine with me, they have nearly 0 effect on my income the way i mission anyway. IM JUST SAYING THAT I DIDNT THINK A TECH I FRIG RIGGED WITH TECH I SALVAGE RIGS SHOULD BE ABLE TO OUT SALVAGE A MARAUDER WITH TECH II SALVAGE RIGS. ok, hopefully that is clear enough. and you all have made it clear to me that this is acceptible, thanks again for your opinions.

You're not reading the responses.
You *can* outsalvage my T1 Catalyst simply by the fact that you've got double the tractor range I do. Yes, I have three rig slots, but I use two Salvage Tackles and one CCC and I *still* run out of cap if I'm picking up after an L4.
Not to mention the protection you have that I don't: If something nasty warps in, chances are darned good that I'm warping out where you can probably take them out *and* salvage them when you're done :)

read post #3, free advice: just sit by the marauder and wait for it to pull wrecks to you :)) but the thread isnt about salvage tactics its about putting cheap frig sized rigs on a tech I ship and out salvaging a tech II mission specialty battleship thats fitted as a dedicated salvager ship with expensive tech II rigs and salvager.

Marauders are tech 2. Tech 2 are more specialized; they get additional bonuses, at the expense of less versatility. One of those expenses is reduced rig capacity. As stated before, the Marauders have double-range tractor beams and have massive cargoholds for loot/salvage. They really don't need further bonuses. They just don't. If you want to buy an 800 million ISK ship and kit it out to be a hardcore salvager, be my guest. But it does its job just fine as it currently stands. ------------------------------------------------ Suicide drones?

im talking salvage here, it doesnt need a huge cargo bay, it doesnt need tractor beams, you dont get my point. tech II ships do everything better than the tech I variant so the tech I ships have been givin 3 rig slots to help even it up but they still dont do as well and this is just talking about the variant of any paticuler ship, now a kestrel is a frigate at the bottem of the class list: frigate, destroyer,cruiser,battlecruiser..... why should it be able to do something better with tech I rigs than a ship thats much higher on the class list like a tech II battle ship that is made to be the best at what it is designed for and is rigged with tech II rigs. at very least they should be able to do the job equally with the same tech rigs.

Ever checked the sensor strenght on a marauder? It's crappier than a cruiser.
Hint: T2 ships do not and are not intended to do everything better than T1.

Heh, I can't really understand the real problem. I have a ship I call rigsalvager of doom. It's a thrasher with 3x salvage tackle and full rack of salvage gear. I've bought this ship, fitted it with rigs mid 07, 18m isk /rig. Best salvage ship out there!
And uh. Golem pilot that are afraid to loose salvage, jeeez. It's not your salvage, it's just some random scrap! (btw I can't see your sig on it. No seriusly). But t2 salvage tackle rigs on you golem, they should be cheap enough soon.
Why don't you ask for a faction tractor beam or something that makes your salvage outrun that cheap little t1 SPECIALISED salvager?

A Velator goes faster than a marauder, too. That's not even tech 1, that's a noobship. HAX!
Tech II are not better than Tech 1 at EVERYTHING. They are better than Tech 1 in their specific role. Marauders are not designed for salvaging, they are designed for "Long-term combat operations," thus their large cargohold for collection spoils of war/ammunition, tanking bonuses, and weapons bonuses which reduce ammunition comsumption, as well as basic EWAR bonuses. It is a ship designed for PvE. Ratting and missions. Salvaging, as a profession, does not yet have a dedicated ship. The marauders are not salvaging ships, they are mission ships. Thus, them being outsalvaged by something else is not defeating their purpose. You're trying to make marauders into something they aren't. And as this thread has illustrated, people don't really think they need to be salvaging profession ships. ------------------------------------------------ Suicide drones?

lets be honest here, they didnt give marauders 3 extra high slots for 3 tractor beams. and as i said before twice already i dont mind salvage thieves and i have never popped a wreck so they cant get it, i dont waist like that. when im done in my missions there is nothing left i bring home all the loot and salvage from every little wreck (if i beat the crum snatchers) but i dont see how that it is not mine, I earned my standings to have access to that lvl 4 agent, I ask for the mission, I accepted the mission, I destroyed the npc ship for that wreck. without my hard work that wreck would have never existed. but agian, i dont mind the crum snatchers comming for it :) i just thought it would be a good idea for the marauder to be on level terms as the cheaper ships. and again thanks to all that botherd to give me their opinions.

Salvage is the reward for training, fitting and using a salvager. How you get to the wreck is irrelevant. And mission runners don't exactly have zero rewards getting to the wreck.

Dude, for a while there my high slots were 1 tractor, 1 salvager, and 1 smartbomb to deal with frigates (I scrapped the smartbomb when a salvage ninja decloaked just a little too close to me while it was going off). Some people with marauders don't even BOTHER to salvage. I've seen marauder fits with friggin' drone link augmentors and Nosferatus. I'm not saying they're good, but those slots aren't hardpointed as tractor beams and salvagers only. They're utility slots. There just happens to be a reasonable use for them implied by the ship bonuses and the ship's common usage.
This thread is full of a a ton of different reasonable counterarguements. Face it. Your idea is bad. ------------------------------------------------ Suicide drones?

smart bombs are dangerus, i quit using them when someone decloaked about 5k away from my raven during one mission. those are some funny fits you mentioned. but it is your opinion that it is bad , and as i said before i thought it was a good idea for the marauder to be on level terms with smaller cheap ships for salvageing. and as i said before thanks for your opinion.

That mindset is often used to no small amount of profit by pirates stealing unpiloted Orcas from unsuspecting miners.
