The issue is that none of the launchers have mines as an ammo type ever since the launcher change that stopped cruise missile kestrels.

If you make mines useful, and minefields can be laid effectively, it seems to me that there would be an opportunity for another ship class: the Minesweeper.

Nobody has touched on the fact that Mines and POS could be a good defensive setup to help against attack..

The mines proposed for Shiva make the current one's look like fire*****ers. Much, much more damage done.

I'm sure they'll have some special launcher or ship
for minelaying in shiva... POS stuff will make for
all sorts nifty uses for mines.. just hope they are
"smart mines" -ie alliance/corp friendly. maybe have the same password system for the shield generators etc..
-dont forget those nifty looking Bombs that
are currently on TQ market that have not been activated
yet... flinging those out while being chased autta make for
some humour...

Not only should they be alliance/corp/password friendly but consider this:
1. What if you deployed a module that maintained a mine field? Each hour a drone would go around and redeploy a mine field around your POS.
2. I like the idea of a ship that deploys mines, perhaps something that could be used in fleet battles that slow down frigates - they could deploy a "wall" of mines - would hope they are good at tanking too since they might be in the front of a fleet
3. I like the idea of smart poximity mines that can move towards you if you are within say 5-10km of you if you are an enemy.
4. Mines are basically stationary missiles and as such should have their damage increased significantly - like 1k-2k damage at a bare minimum.
