I see similar comments here all the time, but it ain't that simple.
Over the years I have had or been in several corps. Eventually (usually sooner) they all died, or became zombie corps. The reason I think is the way EVE is setup does not encourage actually playing, but logging on for a few minutes each month to update skill training.
One corp I was in a couple years ago had over 400 members on the roster, but even on a busy night it was rare to find more than 15 or 20 online - and of those half or more were afk. Contrast that with almost any other popular MMO, where actives is typically 3 to 6x as high.
There is a period in EVE - I think around the 4 to 8 month range - where skill training becomes the only reason to login, and that is where a lot of people just give up. The Cariest of CareBears |

I tried to make sense of this statement and now my brain really really hurts.

Solo eve players can still do the spreadsheet bit, which is about 95% of the game.

Originally by: Michwich Hmm thats unfortunate because this game has the potential to be a real good solo freindly mmo imo. I know many of you play games soley for the social aspect of them, but there are many that dont, infact more than do apparently since the trend in mmo's has been toward more solo friendly content because people just flat out rejected games with group heavy content. Hence the need for solo friendly activities in THIS game.
Guild Wars went along these lines, first with 'heroes', and then further when they gave assassins the shadow-form skill. So if you weren't into watching npc's duke it out, or being a SF assassin or support for him, you were just SOL. Maybe ArenaNet did get more customers doing that, but of course you never hear from the customers they lost. They lost me, and I'd played since beta.
Originally by: Michwich Imagine space arenas where corp sponsored teams fought for money and fame and where spectators could watch and wadger on the matches. The point being theres a system that lets casual players participate in something that otherwise would require a group to do. Guild Wars has "random" arenas where youre randomly put on a team for pvp matches. Then theres "team" arenas where teams interested in organization can form prior to the matches.
Then what? Candy Corns and mini-pets? Arena matches in Eve, seriously? Always knowing where your opponent is and what he's likely bringing? No risk of losing a ship or pod? Not having to wonder if his buddies are near or if he's about to drop a cyno on you?
We have it better right now. God I wish I could gank someone walking out of Lion's Arch.

Somehow I always find something to do when playing alone. This goes same for me irl as well. My only problem is that there are 24h in a day and not like 72 or better 96 ... that would be so awesome ... and 300 year life span
Point being is that this really depends on the player - it depends on what sort of things you find fun as well as on your ingenuity, ability to come up with fun activities given all the tools that the game gives you.

Edited by: Zartanic on 29/08/2009 10:09:15 There are good reasons why people may solo but there are no good reasons why they should moan that a MMO provides no solo content. MMO's are for player interaction, its the whole point of them.
The great thing about EVE is you interact with players all the time with no effort, by playing the market of just watching your back. Other games don't have that.
The reason other games have to be more 'solo friendly' is because there is no motive for interaction at all outside raids and players tend to play for one thing which is gearing themselves up. There is no other purpose to the game. In EVE there are a much wider variety of reasons to group up and interact.
The reason I solo is I was an Officer or leader for years in another game and have had my share of working hard to provide others with their fun and dealing with drooling idiots, emo's and selfish bastards. EVE gave me a break from all that. Its nice to be alone and without anyone bothering you. EVE is great for that while you can still interact. There is a lot of solo content, unlimited really, just some are crap at seeing it.
To get the best out of this game you can't be lazy. Lazy players tend to rely on others to provide them with entertainment, so they join corps or guilds and moan for what they want. If a lazy player is solo they may as well leave the game.

No you dont, this is a game not life, what you need is something fun to do that doesnt require grouping. Anyone got some ideas?
This game is made for group playing not solo.. its not called a Massive Singleplayer Online RPG. ---------------------------

If you can solo RL, you will have no problem finding entertainment in EVE as a solo player.

Hmm pvp in mmo is by definition NOT singleplayer even when played solo.. Anyways there are times when i want do things alone and there are times when i want join others, just like in real life. Problem is that eve is very hostile to newbies and biggest mistake newbie can ever make is join big corp, chanses are he get bored and quit

try worm hole pvp
ull need a tidy ship 1 that can warp cloaked and use scanner ( recon ) live life day to day find new wh exploit the ppl that live there move on
or can use a black ops and av alt prober find the sites when system quite park said BO and wait
can trade and market pvp which id think is a solo activaty as ppl are to tight to share
make a 1 man corp and war dec a random allaince every week
dont limit your self to beeing solo tho wot any pod pilot needs in eve is the abilty to adapt
av fun

You can wardec people who cannot/willnot fight back (like carebears).
You can roam solo in low sec in covert ops ships, looking for a easy prey.
You can canflip with shuttles and come back with battleship.

Michwich,
Play the game anyway you want. I do both group play and a lot of solo play. Contrary to what many here have said, Eve can be played quite well solo, but you give up a lot of things to do if you choose a solo life. If you are solo it helps to have more than one account. With multiple toons, you can do just about anything you want.
The great thing is when you tire of solo play, go join a corp (or start your own) and expand your playing options. Although I am in empire now, I have spent a lot of my time in 0.0 space with different great corps. With wormholes now an option, you really can't have an excuse for getting bored in eve. Lots to do when you vary your play. And when you do get bored, take a break, trust me, you will come back to Eve.....
