This has probably been said before and it will more then likly be said again...but who on earth thought that letting people ninja salvage would be a good idea? Seriously you cant take stuff from a can so why the hell can you salvage it? if there is a genuine legitimat reason that im missing then please someone tell me. Why is it not subject to the same aggression rules as can flipping?

Because CCP wanted salvaging to be its own mini profession, not a bonus income for mission runners. Btw, anybody got the link to that statement? Never have it at hand when I need it.

The wreck belongs to the entity that died. As it is dead it cannot claim it and thus it is now free for all. Look at it that way if it makes you feel better.
That being said ... this is an internet spaceship game. There will be things that don't make sence. Posting about things that bother you won't change a thing unless you can provide valid agruments on why it should be changed. In this case it has been tried. CCP has no intention of changing it.
Accept it as it is. Consider every pice of salvage you get an extra, not a given. Don't let the ninja's bother you and enjoy the fact that they aren't even comming close to your isk/hour.

Per CCP Mitnal: Originally by: CCP Mitnal "Our policy on this is extremely clear... Salvaging is a mini-profession within EVE and does not constitute stealing."
Per GM Faolchu : Originally by: GM Faolchu Salvaging other peoples wrecks.... This is an intended game mechanic and is in no way an exploit. People salvaging your missions npcs or the player you just blew up are doing nothing wrong. The players are salvaging what is effectively floating rubbish in space and Concord places no value on this wreckage. Eve is a harsh place you won't always have everything go your way, its a do or die world and people do what they can to get along. If salvaging some wreckage gets them a few more ISK someone will do it, it doesn't matter who just blew it up.
Per Senior GM Ytterbium : Originally by: GM Ytterbium Players are still completely free to salvage other pilot wrecks at will ... and doing so is not considered as an exploit.
Per CCP Prism X : Originally by: CCP Prism X Why is stealing salvage OK? It's not. It shouldn't even be possible to move an item from your cargo-hold / hanger to another persons cargo-hold / hanger without opening a trade window. Before the salvage enters those containers it is not considered your stuff by the server code. Hence it's not stealing.

From a roleplaying point of view it makes perfectly sense: Salvage is - at least the T1 versions - scrap that you collect from the smoking remains of a ship. Just look at the names, malfunctiong, contaminated, tripped, burned and so on... Loot is intact hardware that is kept as a 'price' by the victor. Unfortunately, roleplaying usually misses out in this game.

You're all n00bs, if you weren't you'd remeber the first few days of salvaging and how the mechanic was that you had to empty the wreck first that it of course flagged. My how the carebears whined, they were getting ganked left and right. The loosers who sit baiting in rookie systems were having a field day popping the n00bs who had just got their salvaging skill from the career agent.
You'd think that this would all die down, same as the jet can whine of years and years, oh you dont know about that ? Well thats another story for another time. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

They forgot the next, but very important part of Prism X' post:
Originally by: CCP Prism X If you're surprised as to why the server does not consider it your stuff, it's because it's a mini profession designed for people who want to roam and look for salvage, not to further increase the revenue from mission grinding.. I doubt anyone with a perspective thinks we need to increase high-sec mission grinding [income] any further.
In other words, L4's already earn obscene amounts of money, and CCP had no intention of just adding to that. Thus wrecks created in missions does not belong to the mission runner.
Originally by: CCP Wrangler EVE isn't designed to just look like a cold, dark and harsh world, it's designed to be a cold, dark and harsh world.

Last night i found a nice ninja salvager in my level 4 mission site since a long time...
i thought hey, what is that .. a ship in overview and a wreck dissapeared...
I then happily locked the max number of my ship and fired a nice missile to each and one of them...
after the 3rd wreck blown up, the ninja left, not caring about the loot and salvage my self (i play for the fun, not the maximum isk income) i blew up the rest as well and handed in the mission.
the ninja spend a couple of minutes probing me down, got a few salvage items (or nothing at all) worth ... a few 100.000 isks max, and frustration as his 'income' was shot down... where i still collected around 4500 LP, a ****load of bounty rewards and mission pay & bonusses.
So... shooting the wrecks once in a while and accept these lowlifes is more profitable then shedding tears on the forums where the ninja;s feel warm and cozy seeing the effect of their actions.
Unless every mission you do results in a ninja salvager visiting, just blow it up once a while and when every mision runner will do this, all they get are just a couple of ships to salvage each time and will move on in the end to do something else as no-one will be crying anymore, their income will be fud and their time spend wont account for the 'fun' they recieve...

It brings a bit of competition into the only otherwise completely non-competetive activity in a PvP-centric game. As such, it's a brilliant idea, entirely in keeping with the spirit of the game, and should in fact be expanded to hold true for more parts of the various ways in which running missions can earn you money.
Mission-running is an anomaly — ninja salvaging brings it closer to how the rest of the game works. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I lost count months ago...
Although I do remember when people couldn't savalge without looting the wreck first. Of course the mission runners whined about how this slowed them down, so it was changed.
KInda like the can agro mechanic miners whined for and ultimately suffer for. Removed. Please keep your EVE signature related to your EVE persona and not that of a real life politician. Navigator |

Quote: Has anyone thought about my solution of increasing the metal scrap rate in salvage, this would affect both the MR and the ninja but it would be more detrimental to the ninjas due to their tiny cargo hold, all salvage that is obtained from wrecks would have a large amount of metal scraps in it, if you think about it this is true with RL wrecks, to get the decent stuff you have to sift thru a lot of ****e.
my reply on the huge thread, at the end of it, after discussion it seems it would bring tears from the ninjarers....

Good question - cause when I get metal scrap I just jettison it. And if I get the message I dont have enough room - I just shuffle around and make some more. All too easy and not really a loss or inconvenience.
