Anyone got any good memories from days past?
I remember upgrading my GFX card and enabling 'sun is occluded by ships' feature and going 'WOW damn this looks good', as well as viewing the eye-candy battlestation in Vehan for the first time.
NPC courisers behaving like complete raytards , visiting new eden, the obelisk and so on.
(note: if you haven't already, feel free to save your history screenshots on eve-files )

Me and a friend flying around 0.0 in a rifter and rutpure before interdictors and before deployable bubbles were put to much use.
Hunting down the first person to ever pod me... and dying again cause I was a nublet Also, it has come to my attention that I'm really in need of a proper signature. |

I remember the last day of my trial period, when I was unsure if I wanted to continue the game or not.
I decided to go ahead and sell all the loot I had collected from rattin, back before I knew what implants and factions spawns were.
I sold a 3mil and 18mil implant and had over 20mil isk with nothing to realistically spend it on, yet.
I had been draggin those around Empire in my cargo hold for about 10 days, not knowing what they were at the time.

You mentioing ISK brings up the memories of spending 3 weeks to gather up the ISK for a Cruiser Skillbook (4.5M). We didn't make ISK that much back then... (and being Minmatar, of course I bought the Gallente Cruiser skillbook, for my Vexor hehe)

The friend who introduced me to eve very kindly gave me 5 million isk so that I could go do some things and not worry about money for a little while.
Having been thoroughly warned to always have a good clone lest I lose SP, I then spent 4.7m on a clone grade omicron (42m SP)... with my 850K sp Also, it has come to my attention that I'm really in need of a proper signature. |

Probably the first time I ran out into low/nullsec....without scouting. Everyone told me it was dumb but I did it anyway. Was quickly chased down and destroyed.
Shield tanking my Tristan, becuz, better shields is better, amirite?
Probably my fondest memory is mining in an Iteron IV, with one T2 mining laser. I thought I had the afk mining world by the nuts. This was back when a properly fit Hulk would run you 600m or better. Way out of my league at the time. There was a collective facepalm in my corp when I told them I was doing it. I'd been with the corp a couple weeks, tops...my 'sponsor' told me to log out and not log back in for a couple days, haha |

Remember when Trinity came along, but I couldn't use shiny new graphics since I thought my video card (GeForce 6600) couldn't handle it. I was very sad but then updated the drivers and everything worked.
I also remember the first time I saw a Caracal, and thought it was so freaking cool! This was pre-trinity and I still think it's cooler with old graphics. Too bad it's not such an awesome ship. Then when I finally got one for myself (thanks to a donation after complaining I had no cash in the Swedish chat channel), I fitted it with a cargo scanner and heavy missile launchers with one ammo type in every launcher. It also had a small shield booster and I was grinding Lvl 1's like a maniac.
First time I flew a Raven and thought I could fit it like a passive drake, with SPR's in the low, shield rechargers in the meds (a single invuln field, lol), and two Field Purger rigs.
Ah, those were the days

I remember joining in '06 when level 4's used to be as hard as level 5's are now and it took a fleet of corpmates in battleships to do Guristas Extravaganza.
I remember mining for 3 months in a Bantam because everyone told me to train up attribute skills first. 50 million skillpoints later, I'm glad I did.
I also remember buying a Hulk for 300 million isk in '07 and that was half the price they were in '06! Then 3 months later they were going for 100 mill. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

Which makes me wonder, do you think you would still be playing if you hadn't went that path and maybe like trained for something else?
I ask because the simple reason of the way we "level up" in EVE compared to other games.

Yup i remember the 'old days'.Have a load of good memories regarding first experiences in 0.0 specifically pure blind. This game changed a LOT since the start and i can't allways say for the better and especially regarding 0.0.
But then i am going to the age where you claim everything used to be better .
regarding empire well mining in my apoc is something not done these days but used to be THE uberminer.Worked about 3 months to get my raven together , wich i btw lost within 10 hours after in my first 0.0 jump-in. At times when i hear new players moan about how slow they are mining in their mining barges or their low sp causes them to not be able todo anything usefull ingame while we started a LOT lower i just wish they could get it the way it was presented to us.

Cruise missile Kestrels :) On a similar topic the old UI. See video
When u initiated warp you were safe. Even if it took you 20 mins to align and warp you were unlockable. Apart from to NPCs,which was bad in belts, especially as there was no "stop warp" button. :)
Splash damage on torpedos. Killing a target then the splash damage destroying the pod. Lost a lot of Sec status that day. Torps launched from a cruiser :)
ECM was 100% effective and added up So a Blackbird with 1 of each racial and a multispec (6+2+2+2+4) could jam anything 100% of the time assuming no ECCM was used
Being chased through syndicate region in my inty by an inty, so i docked, changed ECM to counter, waitied for him to agress then just jammed and picked him apart. :)
When a busy sunday evening was 2500 people online. :) -----------------------------------------------

I agree. The early days of Eve with 0 knowledge of the game was the best time Ive ever had in a computer game. I got sooo hooked it wasnt even funny... I ran back and forth between a asteroid and a station in a ibis and watched my isk grow for the first 2 hours while checking out the market and every other function.
I even had a hauler sit at nights in a ore field mining and filling up with ore. Every morning I would make tons of isk by selling it. Really fun times back then when you could get rich quickly. I also got into trading and made more than a billion in just a few months of trading after downtime.
These days I feel there is too much effort for too little gain, but maybe thats because I got used to having it too easy.

Definitely. With soooooooo many things to learn it was effectively like plaving a brand new game every few days as you unlocked even moar stuff to fit and fly or new careers to pursue. Hell the complexity of it all convinced me to get a second account within a month of starting eve just to keep up with all the content.

Flying around on day one in my ibis of ultimate doom, checking out low sec cause hey it's supposed to be dangerous. Getting a convo from a "friendly" local. "Hey get the stuff from that can, you can have it", "Goly Gee thanks!" I replied, wetting my pod for some fancy loot no doubt. I discovered what an omen was right after that, and then discovered you get magically transported to a station when you die.

Allways wish i kept the screens when iv'e seen this question come up in the past. After the castor patch, circa christmas 2003, ccp started droping weird and wonderfull bits at sites just off asteroid belts in low sec. Remember one that i realy wish i could reference, 'an old weather vein'
From the picture of it i still have in my mind, it was quite highly detailed... maybe ccp have some shots, or another user, be good to see it again. ______

First time I went into lowsec, about 2-3 weeks into the game.
A friend and I sold everything we had and bought Caracals for hunting, though I wasn't really sure what I was hunting at the time. Friend fit a warp disruptor, "just in case they try to get away." First lowsec belt we warped into, a red flashy rapier decloaked (Chuskarl's Grandfather) and started shooting at us. After finishing him off, we saw a COVERT OPS CLOAKING DEVICE II in the can... I nearly fainted, we had enough isk to last us FOREVER.

♥ Oh god! That old UI... Having to switch between High, Mid and Low... ♥ Mining in Luminaire in an SWA Frigate gang. Trusting the designated hauler not to nick everything (and them not doing so) and being delighted at 700k at the end of it! ♥ Not realising you had to activate Shield Boosters ♥ Fitting Shield Boosters to my first Thorax, coz the newbie tutorial told you to buy one... ♥ Losing my first Thorax to 0.4 Cruiser NPCs (probably coz it was Shield Boosted ) ♥ Dual / Triple MWD ships! ♥ The first guy to take me down to 0.1 to a hidden NPC spawn at a moon ♥ My first taste of PVP at that same spot, in my first - terribly fit, NPC - Megathron... And winning against 3 hostiles! ♥ Running in to the first guy who ever killed me, and podding him!
So many memories...

The good old days...
- Buying goods without realizing where the stuff was located and then blindly heading into low sec to get them.
- Running missions and getting ammunition, goods, skill books, or the occasional ship as bonuses! I learned more about various skills in this fashion than having to use third party resources to be informed. And I gained more in deadly ammo that I am still slowly living off some of it today.
- Receiving the rare in-game mail from an agent that since I have been a grand asset to their corporation, they will offer, for a limited time, an uncommon skill book much cheaper than the current market prices.
- Being witness to the (infamous?) statement by a new pilot, "There was a bright flash and my ship turned into an egg - did I level up?"
- Rigs, salvage, and wrecks did not exist. If there was phat lewt when something exploded, then it dropped in a can.
- Privateers making Jita interesting with the constant battles in the surrounding systems. I made some good money back then selling off ammunition and combat related gear from missions.
- Listening and talking with Oveur when he appeared one day in the State War Academy chat channel.
- Hearing the tales of individuals like Chribba and Sir Molle and thinking to myself that they must be beyond elite if they're well-known on a single server cluster unlike guilds on various servers in my old EverQuest days.
- People making an attempt to help those in need without today's malcontents waving e-peens, smack talking, and constant stream of spammers selling illegal stuff.
Thanks for reading.

Came back around jan 06 and followed the tutorial and been playing ever since (with a few short breaks)
