OH. MY. GOD.!
The Vietnam episode may be the funniest thing I've ever seen.
On the really plus side, my neighbors may finally be glad when I just watch **** instead of this.
Thanks to Grez for the link.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I guess sleep is now on the backburner for quite a while.
I must say that I enjoy the challenges the most. The rest are funny but nothing to cheer about, unless they involve the dog.

I know I know, dragging back an old topic to the front.....
Anyway, i've been watching Top Gear on iPlayer this afternoon and as usual, its the things you didnt notice the first time that are a joy the second. ie: Watching Series 13 episode 2 (they pretend to be 17 and try to insure a car) and while in the office, on the phone to insurence companies, I noticed the following ...
James May has a photo of the Queen on his desk and a box of miniture cleaning brushes. Richard Hamilton has a picture of a cow and a box of Smile Pearl Drops (aka the joke about his teeth being whitened) Jeremy Clarkson has pictures of Will Young and Kristen Scott Thomas ........all pictures are lovingly framed. In the background, lasting for less than 1 sec, the Stig is using his head with the photocopier (al a classic bumstyle).
I love Top Gear

The Robin Reliant Reusable Orbiter is about one of the very best challenges to watch, especially the first time when you see it doesn't explode on the launch tower.....
A good item in one of the shows also is there investigation into when the way a modern car is came about.
If youve only just started watching youve tons of great stuff to watch :-) Dont you get Dave ?

Top Gear is awesome all-around. Series 1 was a little meh, series 2 saw the arrival of James May, where the magic started to happen, and from series 4 on it's all awesomeness (except parts of series 8 and 9, to be honest).
Get em all, you won't regret it.

Now that I've finished the American Road Trip, a little bit of a story.
Preamble - I was a little annoyed that they chose the most stereotypical rednecks and their locales in the US for the setting, but the end really made it one of the best. Plus the cow.
Anyway: About 40 years ago my parents went on a road trip to the Deep South. My mom's from Tennessee, part of the upper South, and sort of a border state between the North and South; a bit of a wishy-washy place. My dad, however, is from Pennsylvania, York to be exact - at one point our nation's capital. Be that as it may, they traveled down south in my dad's car with Pennsylvania license plates. Long story short, they spent the whole trip in fear for their lives simply because of their Pennsylvania plates.
So what these three guys (idiots) did was one of the most daring events I've ever seen. Quite frankly, they were safer in the Arctic with the bears and thin ice.

TBH, that was the whole point ... find the most stereotypical rednecks they could find to re-inforce an image. Im sure that, when an American comedy/entertainment programme goes for full effect, they choose a British accent and they ALWAYS go for posh, they are ALWAYS eccentric and even in-bred with strange mothers/fathers etc. Its not for reality but to re-inforce a perception of something percieved as a reality. For every TG style stereotype we have a more serious documentry/entertainment programme that shows the reality. See 'Stephen Fry in America' for an example. He travels to every state in the US in a london black taxi and meets ordinary/extrodinary people. And not a single one is a stereotype. He shows us the 'real' America that we know to be true rather than the stereotype we love to chuckle about.

I totally get that. It's just that it always seems to be Southern Rednecks that people go after. It's a little tiresome is all. We have so many other types of idiots here that it would be nice to see them for a change.

New favorite line:
"It's made from aluminum. Whatever that is."
Geek note: Aluminum, Al, was discovered by an American who named it, what else, Aluminum. The Limeys assumed it was a spelling mistake and named it aluminium, just like Plutonium, Uranium, Einsteinium, and Hydrogenium.

Finally saw the Indestructilux episodes. Just awesome. The rewatched the Artic one afterwards. And so many others as well over the past week or two.
On a totally unrelated note, I haven't gotten much sleep lately. Can't possibly fathom why.

Holy Sheise (hope I spelled that right), I just saw the Brits vs ze Germans episode (11-6) and I can't believe no one mentioned it before now.
Jeremy: "I suggested the skies over southern Britain" (I'm sad to say it took me a minute to get that, but I laughed about it for the rest of the episode)
Then the TG entrance to the event, along with the prior restriction.
The rest of the competitions were hilarious, especially since my parents just received their Mini and I joke that not only for the first time in over 30 years they don't own a Swedish car (1 Volvo, 4 Saabs (real ones, none with one of those crappy GM chassis mind you)), they now own two BMWs (in case you're not a regular follower of my posts, and shame on you if not, we're American - but we're patriotic Americans because up until a month or so ago, GM owned Saab for at least 15 years, even if they only built them for the last six - it's OK if you need a lie down or some sort of medication right now, it's quite complicated*).
But what really struck me was May's performance in the final challenge. He was unbelievable. I really didn't think he had it in him.
One question: The address at the end? What's that first bit about.
1966? Is that F1, football, rugby, cricket, what?
*And this is one of the many reasons why I love my Saab(s). Since none of them were actually built by GM, I can claim that it's a smart, sensible, powerful, fun, European car. But since it's been owned by GM since I got my 2nd (of 4), I can now tell certain types of people that it's a GM car, and as American as you can be. I get to have my cake and eat it too!
Unfortunately, a Saab is not the best car owned by a US company, designed in Germany and built in Canada with parts made in Mexico.

I'm not sure what context you're talking about, but the most famous thing in 1966 was the football World Cup. England Vs. West Germany in the final, England won in extra time with a controversial goal. First and only time England won it. -------------

And the last, so tell your media to stop filling it's back pages with England drivel. We all know the media will build up the team saying they are a dead certain, and why everyone should be proud, but you'll come up against Brasil or Spain in the quarters, and all of a sudden they knew they were the worst team ever!
