Pre-rig changes, I never would have considered this, but now...
Is this setup viable? Any improvements? Or is this just a dumb idea?
[Hurricane, Active]
[Low] Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Medium Armor Repairer II Medium Armor Repairer II Gyrostabilizer II
[Medium] Medium Capacitor Booster II,Cap Booster 800 10MN MicroWarpdrive II Warp Disruptor II Warp Scrambler II
[High] 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP M Medium Energy Neutralizer II Medium Unstable Power Fluctuator I
[Rigs] Medium Nanobot Accelerator I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Drones: Hornet EC-300,5 Booster: Improved Exile Booster
The DPS is a bit lacking, but I feel that it makes up for that, in versatility. You may note that it has no web, this was not an oversight. The Scram will deal with any MWD's and the nuets will shutdown any pesky afterburners on anything frigate/cruiser size without issue. I feel that webs are not needed with the tracking/range of 220 MM Auto Cannons, especially since they won't be going anywhere fast. ---

It's not a bad setup, to be sure. I just don't believe its playing to the hurricane's strength - its massive dps.
I think you are much better off in a cyclone if you want an active tanked minmatar BC. Dps will likely be better, and the tank should be as well. Also its nicely underestimated, unlike the hurricane.
Or train gallente cruiser 3 (if you havent yet), hop in a myrm with ACs, and enjoy a much larger tank with similar dps.

The only tech 1 bc's that active armor tank viably are the myrm and brutix, even then you NEED all skills 5 and rigs for it to work, simply doesn't tank enough on unbonused ships. You would prob be much better off with buffer fit, maybe hybrid with 1 repper to rep up after fights. If you want to do this type of setup, myrm does it better, however I think this setup might work.

If your goal is to active tank, the Cyclone is also a reasonably good option.

If I am gonna fly a ship I want it to be the best at what it does in its ship class. I think the 'cane can do this in a nano-gank shield hp fit, or in a plated with neuts fit, but not with a dual MAR fit; there are better choices than the 'cane for that.

Edited by: Psiri on 11/09/2009 23:54:39 Idkn, I'm torn to be honest. I'd never field an active cane WITH rigs as they're not only quite costly without giving you that much added survivability, but they also slow you down.
A nano shield-buffer cane without ambit rigs feels pretty pointless tbh and they're fairly expensive still with them. A plated cane is a good gang ship but is too slow for solo work IMO.
- I feel that a non-rigged active cane is nice in the regard that it's fairly well rounded. It's still faster than most other BC's on the field, will tear any cruiser a new one and can tank a reasonable ammount of the inbound DPS at the ranges it engages at.
The strong point of the Hurricane will never be its active tank however, as such I find it to be folly to rig it as such, you're much better off with a Myrm that way (which also happens to be perfectly viable with autocannons).

It all depends on the situation; if the incoming dps isn't too overwhelming or comes in bursts then an active tank will outperform a pure EHP fit. On the cane I wouldn't go for a 2xMAR setup though but rather 1 MAR 1 plate. unbonused double MAR just isn't worth it most of the time.
Compared to a buffer shield setup it lacks speed and agility which can be very useful but isn't always a decider but more importantly, you lose a WHOLE lot of dps. If you want to active tank use a cyclone; it'll out-tank, out-dps and out-run a 1xmar tanked cane.
This all starts to change when you start using gang links, then stuff starts to shift towards active tanking, again provided the dps isn't too overwhelming.

The problem with a Cyclone for PvP is, like most shield tankers, it doesn't have the right resists to deal with lasers, which are becoming more and more prevalent.

If you think you are going to run into lots of lasers, you can fit 2x em 1x therm rigs and have very nearly the same resists across the board.

Heres my fitting that I have found works well for PvP.
Hurricane: Cap Stable [Low] 2X Nanofiber Internal Structure II 1X Damage Control II 3X Gyrostabilizer II
[Medium] Warp Disruptor II Stasis Webifier II 10MN Afterburner II Large Shield Extender II
[High] 2X Arbalest Missile Launchers (Caldari Navy Flameburst) 6X 425MM Autocannon II (barrage/republic fleet EMP)
[Rigs] Medium Anti EM Screen reinforcer II 2X Medium Core Defense Field Extender II -----------------
I find it to be quick and nimble in most situations. You could swap out the afterburner for an MWD, but I don't know if it would be cap stable then (certainly the cap drain wouldn't be very much if it wasn't).

How do you get your shield, armor, and hull %hp to show up there?

The dual-MAR fit isn't bad as such; but the DPS tanked, even with heated reps and if you want, exile+ tanking rigs, isn't very high. You certainly need to mitigate some damage via range, so falloff rigging (or rof+2x falloff) is typically a better option.
The tank rigs do you a disservice very often, because they reduce your speed noticeably and prevent fitting falloff rigs. Assuming perfect skills, you go down from 1267m/s (1797m/s heated) to 1118 m/s ( 1587m/s heated) or 1090m/s (1547 m/s heated) with the more likely armour rigging at IV, for a extra ~109 DPS tanked. You lose ~12km of falloff without the triple falloff rig option, which in practice makes a large DPS difference fighting at 16-17km.
A dual-rep setup lives by reducing incoming DPS via range (and indeed, if a trimarked/plated Hurricane fights a dual rep one, provided the dual rep can keep the range and has triple falloffs, it has a solid chance at winning the encounter), and it's also passable for gatecamping in a small gang (although, so are shield buffer fits).
Given Hurricanes are not expensive ships by any standard, I would suggest fitting 4-5 different fits and trying out what works for you best, and the advantages/disadvantages of each.

And unless I am missing something, I don't think this will fit on a hurricane even without the webifier. I don't do EFT though so not sure. But I would guess you are just making **** up as you go.

Actually, it fits very easily - ive used a fit like that with a MWD and 2x medium neuts instead of launchers. Please fit a mwd by the way, no point in those nanofibers if you don't.
