Edited by: Acab on 22/10/2004 14:52:21 Hi all.
I was reading around looking for new forthcoming mmoprgs news (i know, i'm a blaspheme mofo...:D) and i stumbled into this article:
Filefront article
I couldn't go futher in reading the article as in the very beginning of it they list a number of games that "have been" flops in the MMORPG industry. And they also listed EVE. Uh?
Beside any comment you may make in relation to what the devs "originally" expected to make as account registrations goes, you may not say that EVE is a "flop". At least not now. As long as you can see 11,3k players logged in during peak times, and the numbers of account creations in the last few months.
What do you guys (and CCP most of all) think about this view?
Please keep it civil. Thanks

In the context of the first paragraph of that article i'd say to its author "flop" = "*i* didn't like the gameplay". Personal opinion combined with bad wording, in what's pretty much part of WoW pre-sale hype campaign.
Hardly worth a fuss.

The guy listed World of Warcraft as a fun game, drawn to it by shiny objects and other luminous effects , I'm not buying anything he's selling.

How he could even put EVE into the same sentence AC/AC2 is mind boggling to those of use that have minds, which from reading further on I think was not the intended audience.
Fan Boys should not be writing reviews of games for that exact reason. Any Independently produced game be it MMO/SP/FPS or whatever with 50K users and a Potential Gross estimated @ 8.97M/year is no failure. Just ask any Bank or Investment firm. :)

Notice how he keeps comparin WoW to ever*****. Besides calling Eve, EnB and others a flop in the first paragraph, he never mentions them again. The whole article is "look WoW has this and EQ does not, therefore WoW is cool".
Personally I dont think I would ever be able to bring myself to play any game that has orcs humans elves, sages, magic, etc. It smells too much of a fat man in his mom's basement on friday night endlessly throwing dice at the wall, while screaming "SCOURGE!!!one"

Blizzard's first MMORPG... seriously guys, not bashing EVE in any way. but Blizzard has an excellent history of making great games. WoW will not be a bad game simply because EVE is a good game. and vice versa...
there is a fine, but dissasterous line between a fart and a shart. i suggest you make sure which side you want to be on... |

Edited by: Pottsey on 22/10/2004 15:57:12 Edited by: Pottsey on 22/10/2004 15:56:02 If you look at is from a subscriber point of view Eve is a big flop having only 50k userÆs while all the big boys range from 1 to 3+ million.
ôHow he could even put EVE into the same sentence AC/AC2 is mind boggling to those of use that have mindsö Right from day 1 AC2 had more users then Eve and it broke 50k pretty fast and stayed there for a few months. If the writer looked at the starting numbers then AC2 did better then Eve and if AC2 is a flop then Eve is a flop.
I donÆt think Eve is a flop but it is a very small MMORPGs
ôHe put eve next in line with Earth and Beyondö Why not? They are both space games and for the first 1.5 years E&B had a bigger player base its only recently this year that Eve had more userÆs then E&B.

Eve with 1 million people might be a real problem.
1. Server load 2. Can't produce ammo fast enough to gank everyone I see. 3. We would all be pumping into eachother. Space is big, but not big enough to hold 1 mil of us. Can you picture Yulai with 10k people in local?
