Halo 4 and DUST 514 are considerably different games, in-fact the only two things they hold in common are they are both set in the Future and are First Person Shooters.
Aside from that they play and interact considerably differently from each other. DUST 514 if you were to take it at face value right now is like a more complicated version of Battlefield 3 set in the Future... it is incredibly similar not only in gameplay terms but also loadouts and how you earn experience.
While this isn't such a bad thing as-such because Battlefield 3 is a great game, a problem I see is that because it doesn't have a unique feel to it this could put off a good number of players. Don't get me wrong it has some fantastic potencial, but we have a problem here that while CCP think big and look to a bright awesome future... it takes them years to even begin to scratch the surface and making the vision and reality begin to match up.
Gameplay in my opinion should be first and foremost here, it is actually what has made Halo the incredible success it is today; not that it was really revolutionary in any particular way but that it has always stood as one of the most accessible with a very fast, responsive and solid feel to the gameplay.
Look at Halo next to EVE Online itself. Sure it has been considered a popular game, but the reality is that numbers wise it has never been the best selling FPS ... difference between Halo and it's competitors is that the quality and rich nature of it's content has meant it has steadily grown in popularity while fans of the original are the same people eagerly awaiting the new title.
EVE itself is the same way, it isn't a juggernaut like other MMOs on the market but it has and will continue to out last them. To me this is what CCP should be looking at and focusing on as well. Not simply making an FPS that is part of the EVE Universe, but a franchise like Halo or Killzone that might not reach the incredible popularity of the biggest selling titles; but rather reaches out to an audience that in a decade will be just as passionate about what happens in DUST as many of us are about what happens in EVE.
It all starts with solid gameplay... something I hope to hell CCP understand and are working on, because right now there is too much Battlefield influence. |

Halo:CE was one of the best all time FPS games ever released. The gameplay was tight the story was engaging and a 16 player lan party with some buds and beers was great as all you needed was 4 TVs and 4 xboxs. As the Halo games progressed they only pulled me and millions of others in more. Halo 4 will be an awesome game and if DUST 514 has even a quarter of the numbers that Halo 4 is going to garner then DUST will be successful as well. |

Maybe the little kids you always hear about on consules, but i know a good sized community of consule players that are waiting for a game that doesn't take them a weekend to "vet" or prestige or whatever the games people play call it. Many are drawn by the 7 years total it'd take in Dust514 to max out the current skill list they have. Others by the owning of a piece of planets in New Eden. Something to show for their teamwork other then some stats or some recorded video of some clan match that really had no effect on the group. There is a community out there that has been waiting for Dust 514. the ones that you're talking about are surely going to try out a free downloadable FPS game, but how long they last will depend on the environment they can learn the game in.
^^THIS^^ and the truth of the matter is that most "kiddies" will not be able to cope with a persistant world that takes your shiett for real....like its gone, no getting stuff back a little broken on respawn, your stuff is permanatly destroyed. Dust, like EvE will be a world with consequences, little kiddies gonna figure out the hard way teabagging the wrong person could get their whole crew evicted right off their planet...permanatly.
Dust like Eve will cultivate players that are mentally mature (for the most part) and will spread amongst this type or person, it will prob nvr appeal to the teabagger's and nor is it trying to.
Players to whom the gameplay of dust is appealing will continue to play as CCP will continue to upgrade and refine the gameplay, and both will grow together |

Star Hawk, Planet side the new COD. Split or what ever its called and now halo 4.
What your seeing is really a greater trend in the fps market. FPS people have shown that they tire quickly of a title that only offers them map packs new skins and a handfull of new weapons.
If dust is successful it puts fps people in a f2p persistant shooter with meta transactions. If done properly it could turn into a gold mine.
All the major shooters are trending toward what dust can be its not dust vs Halo 4, really by release day and the holiday season it will be dust vs every other console shooter on xbox, ps3 and pc.
The one major advantage Dust will have if it doesn't suck, will be that it is married to an all ready thriving MMO which it can interact with in real time. The other shooters attempting to provide the "Dusty" feel dont have that or will need to spend even more money to create it and get people to play it.
Considering that I guess in CCP's unique situation its easier to go Space MMO > Futuristic FPS Tie in, then the reverse of this.
I may sound rather negative but from what I've seen of dusts beta im actually very hopeful seeing they balance a few things and get the npe right. Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.comI Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers. |

Now I hate Halo cause it never delivered on its potential. Each game was practically the same as the last. Not as bad as Call of Duty, but still stuck in a rut. I think DUST is going to be a genre changer. All FPS after DUST will be measured by how it compares to DUST. Don't forget that the generations that grew up with the more simple (kiddie) FPS games on console are all grown up now and tired of the same old same old 13 year old trash talkers corpse humping and simple, bite sized content with no persistency. I think the FPS world is ready for a grown up game.
just... lol
Hopefully there will be a CCP left when this is all over. Mark my words, this is a terrible idea and a detriment to both CCP and more importantly EVE. |

I disagree completely. EVE is badly in need of being shaken up in terms of SOV and faction warfare region control.
Dust is the perfect way to accomplish that. |

i could not find a solid good reason to buy a console other than to have a blue ray player so i never got a console cuz i like how pc controls trump any console controls buy a huge margin but then dust 514 came out and it has a blue ray player hehe hands down a clear winner for playstation!!!
gosh i hate to think if this game was only xbox.... i dont think i would be play beta if not for playstation...
but what makes me mad is all the rumors of dust 514 coming out on all platforms except PC and all together working on a single shard was a jaw droper and i was sold purely on dust and eve being pioneers.
but then limited game to only playstation and i was mostly sold but the thought to pull out was under concideration.
i think eve and dust has more to gain if they go multi platform because they already know how to make it work just to apply it needs some motivation! |

I feel that Planetside 2 is more likely to be competition for Dust considering the kind of loyalty the previous game illicited. However, I feel that the game will drawn in fans from the BF3 and MAG crowds. |
