In the game where the developers have offered a discount for having multiple account before?
Interesting.
There is a debate on whether things would be better without alts. Not really on whether it is an accepted (more like encouraged) thing with CCP.

Is there any way I can upgrade my new trial account to a paid account using this offer? If not that just sucks

This isn't new, they have been doing this about this time of year for awhile now. With players running more accounts CCP makes more money. So with that being said how would ethics play a part when there's money to be had. Besides I personally could not function in EVE without multiple accounts.

 So long having alts isn't a near requirement, (low sec pirates stuck in low sec let's say  ) then I don't see a conflict CCP promoting multi accounts.
They just need to be careful about that kinda thing.
