Hello, I am a mining alt. I usually sit in station and wait for my main (Amarr, BS/BC) and another alt ( Minmatar BC, supplemental dps + salvage ) to clear a mission so I can go mine the field.
Lately my all mining skills are reaching their highest potential (for empire) so I'm thinking of training this alt in something that can help the other 2 char's clear missions faster. I would prefer to stay Minmatar.
As a miner, I already have very good drone skills, including for offensive drones. I was thinking of maybe training for a particular ship that might put all nos in the highs, since training energy emissions systems to IV is superquick compared to the 6 million sp plus it would take to get good in any gunnery.
What do you recommend for a minmatar, mission support ship, not skill intensive for gunnery etc?

Myrmidon would be the obvious choice ( or Dominix ). Training up Gallente hulls doesn't take much time, you're not training for their weapons. If you must stay Minmatar, about the only choice is the Typhoon which lacks bonuses for drones, but fills the rest of your wants.
You don't exactly say what role this is going to fill; you already have a BC pilot so he could do gang links, all that's left is either general damage or something specialised to say, clear frigates + cruisers fast. NOS doesn't work the same vs NPCs btw before you make plans for that.

Maelstrom, also typhoon is probably one of the more skill intensive ships in the Minmatar line up :)
But 3 charecters in one mission will probably get a bit hard to mange you are probably better off in a vargur, here is a good fit for your 3rd char that isn't very skill intensive:
[Vargur, :D] Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II
100MN Afterburner II [empty med slot] [empty med slot] [empty med slot] [empty med slot] [empty med slot]
Salvager II Salvager II Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I
Large Salvage Tackle I Large Salvage Tackle I

Susy,
You're right, I do anticipate 3 alts on one mission to be a lot to handle. It's already a lot of toggling with 2 char's, so I was hoping for at best a ship that sits and maintains a tanks while dealing some drone damage.
With your suggestion it is a focused salvage ship. I suppose that makes sense, because keeping range and firing well is skill and "real time maintenance" intensive, plus salvage does take a while and this would speed it up.
I'm open to trying this. On the other hand I suppose I could train Gallente and do a well-tanked drone boat that way. I guess it is for role-playing reasons that I prefer staying Minmatar. My thoughts are sort of "well this is the race for this char - what is the best they can possibly do, for the technology of their lineage"
But if it gets too impractical, with obviously better options, I suppose I could cross train.
Anyone else have suggestions?

I dont know that much about Minnies, but the Myrm pretty much fills the role of tank and do damage extremely well.
Fill it with tank and a mindlink ( if you have Leadership skills; something else to train if youre bored ; fill it with drones, activate the mindlink, get a cap-stable tank rolling, assign drones to other ship. You just cut your missioning time a good deal.

If you really want to stick to minmatar you can use Typhoon, as it has big enough drone bay to be able to fit 5 sentries. Then you can just dump whatever afkstyle you want in higs and set your drones on 'assist' mode on one of your other guys. I would however consider also Dominix perhaps for that. It is somewhat more effective drone boat than minmatar lineup.

Well, only ship I could imagine that could be useful while needing close to zero attention would be a command ship. Just sit there and keep your ganglinks running. Otherwise, a support Dominix/Phoon could fit your bill.

Stick your alt in a Scimitar:
[Scimitar, Mission Scimitar] Damage Control II Capacitor Power Relay II Power Diagnostic System II Power Diagnostic System II
10MN Afterburner II F-293 Nutation Target Coupling F-293 Nutation Target Coupling Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Extender II
Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Drone Link Augmentor I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Warrior II x5 Light Shield Maintenance Bot I x4
Perma-running 3 reppers will allow you to gank your two DPS ships. The two tracking links will help them to hit better, and the Warrior IIs will help to deal with pesky frigates. Just warp into the room after the tanks, set an orbit around your tank, set the reppers and links going and leave it. It has enough tank to last until you can warp away if you happen to pull aggro, although the tiny signature and over 750 m/s speed will see you pretty safe anyway.

I think if I was going to fly missions with my main, my alt, and a new secondary alt, I'd just put my alt in a Gallentean drone ship, and train his drone skillz and his leadership skillz, and then make him fleet booster (probably some kind of BC or command ship so I could fit several "gang" modules), and not really do anything actively with him.
I like flying with 1 main and 1 alt just fine, though.

As some of peoples said 3 toona micro management in pve will be nightmare^2, train it for fleet command ship (for armor tank amarr) and than you could just put more gank on your other toons that do the fighting without loosing tank.
No nightmare micromanagement and still very usefull as it will cut your mission completion time thanks to more dps.
If you really want 3 combat ships micromanagement you will need monkey like dexterity, or just pay for those drones that will get aggro from spawning new wave of npcs in some missions. |
