NOT an overview issue, even if I add drones to overview I still cannot see them in space. However if I click on a drone in the drone window, it lights it up and I can see THAT drone, but not the 4 other drones in space.
How to resolve this issue?

check 'Drone Models' in Display & Graphics tab of esc menu.

got the same problem. sometimes i see them sometimes i dont, i've clicked and unclicked drone models in the display settings but to no avail.
earlier today did 1 mission drones were there went to another and couldnt see them on screen unless i physically clicked on a drone.

Ojects in space are viewed as 'brackets' you may not have drones set on your brackets settings. Use the option triangle on your overview to "show all brackets". If this displays them then thats your problem.
Be warned showing all brackets in systems with lots of people/objects can cause lag, you can manually select what you want to see in space the same as you do for you overview.

ive had this issue also. on my 2nd account if i look at my other ship i can see the drones orbiting it, then sometimes the drones disappear and it looks like nothing is orbiting the ship, then all of a sudden they come back and i can see them orbiting

Drone models are only loaded if you do a "look at" on them. This lazy loading is to increase performance, especially in scenes where there are many drones. The same holds for turrets, they are only loaded when you look at a firing ship.
We LOD small objects quite aggressively and we also unload objects that you are not looking at.
