I was curious about that.
What would stop a Blackbird (insured, of course) with nothing but an ECM burst from breaking the locks, and then a pod that can fly the Orca from simply hopping in?

Originally by: McFly Poasting to confirm the third orca I've stolen from people trying this, suicide blackbird alt is all that it takes.
What are the chances of a blackbird breaking a Domi's lock in time before concord shows up if the Domi has a few ECCMs active?
(serious question, ...I know next to nothing about EW)

because ECCM is only chance based and there is a good chance a blackbird with an ECM burst and some regular ecm will jam the domi. the hulk is a nonissue
p much if you go through with this you deserve what you get.

The crime and punishment forum loves these scenarios; there is more than one bragging post by quick thinking teams of thieves that are able to run off with an orca.

I thought about doing this for around four nanoseconds, then realised that the tears from losing the orca wouldn't compensate for the extra ore I'd be mining (I have a 3 account setup, one orca, two miners). The fact is when I mine, I do so semi-afk. With this kind of setup, I'd have to be non-afk and nobody with any frontal lobes can mine (ice for POS in my case) with their full attention for more than three or four minutes without losing the will to live.
So, if you want an extra miner, get another character ;).

Originally by: Callista Omenswarm I don't see why you don't just jet can. Using the orca as a jet can, you're not getting the bonuses, having to switch ships every so often to move ore around and having to run for the orca anytime someone appears in local or pops up on d-scan heading to the belt.
Orca can hold what, maybe 20mil of ore. Seems to me to be a FAR more sensible idea to have 20mil of ore floating out there than some 'fool proof' plan to risk a half bil ship. Less effort too as you don't have to keep switching ships.
This. I fail to see a single advantage over a hulk and a hauler.
But to address the original question. yes it would work. Overly complex and wasteful but it would work.

One option is to make friends (as in, befriend other players, not manufacture a new friend) and join in a mining op run by folks who are interested in that kind of thing. Just float around the systems you normally inhabit and look for folks flying Orcas. Ask them if they have regular mining ops, and take it from there.
On the other hand, now that you can fly an Orca you could go floating around the systems you normally inhabit and look for folks using their Orcas as giant GSCs, and take them. I'm pretty sure an Orca heist would be better ISK/hr rewards than mining. [Aussie players: join channel ANZAC] |

So just an update on this, I've spent probably 300 hours in total doing this, and I've had about a dozen peeps try and jam the Domi, bump the Domi out of range or just stupidly try and board the orca while it is locked.
No one succeeded. In fact, I set the Domi to "keep at range" to the orca, with ECCMs and a perma running MW, and go AFK while the 17k m3 cargo of the hull fills up...come back for a sec and move it to orca...rinse and repeat.
Eve is nowhere near as dangerous as some peeps would make it seem if you just put a bit of thought into things.

Edited by: Order Mae on 15/12/2009 05:31:51 I have a char that can fly an orca, hulk, AND domi-- so in theory, all I have to do if fly my main in in a blackbird and scare you and i get a domi? (or and orca if you are afk?)
/me runs locator agent.
Furthermore, in high sec, I'm confused why you need a tanking domi...

By now character 2 should've been in a Hulk. Can I have your Orca? You're using it wrong.

2 people warp in with cheep griffins. They break your locks and while they get concorded, (losing 250k isk) a third boards your empty orca worth 350M along with whatever you keep inside it.

The chance that both gankers successfully unlock both of my toons before they are wtfowned by concord is negligible with my ECCM setup.
Also, remember, it takes less than 2 seconds for me to right click, board Orca. You wouldn't even have me targeted before I'd already be in the Orca. Another second or so to scoop the (already targeted by the Domi anyway) hulk.
But, where there's a will, there's always a way, but like I said; So far, hundreds of hours later, no one even tried.
