I gave some thought on how BPO:s just keep on adding to the game but have no way to decade or taken off the game other than occasional hauler gank or pos takedown.
So here is the idea
BPO have ME and PE levels like currently PE and ME level reduce time/mineral waste by 1% each level. base waste -50% of perfect. Dunno so much of math but level1: 50%-1%=49.5 level2: 49.5%-1%=49,005 so waste percent would never be 0.
PE and ME research time is increased by 50% each level
PE and ME research speed doubles every year!
Players would have to continuously keep researching their BPO to keep them competitive. Just like you have to have up to date manufacturing methods rl.
I think this would add a bit to the immersion too as you would be researching and improving blueprints continually instead of reresearching same thing over and over.
example list of research times level/research time now/research time after a year/research time after 4 years L1/1day/0,5day/0,06day L2/1,5days/0,75days/0,09day L10/38,4days/19,2days/2,4days
Respectable PE/ME level 10 today would be quite easily attainable after 4 years

Ever consider what this would do to marker prices if BPO owners had to continually research their prints?
The profit from manufacturing usually includes the amount spent on research, so if more is spent on research then that manufacturing bill will increase. ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.
Nobody round here is offering the second one therefore your choices are limited! |

what is it with people and bad ideas yesterday we had no docking for capitals today we have i can't makeisk from building stuff so lets punish those who can whats next once you have 1b isk you get a wealth tax of 60%.
and as to bpos just keep adding to the game this is a good thing means before you build you have to think min cost production cost time cost and profit there is more to building then most people think.
also as someone already said this would also add to the cost of ships and other items myself i like the game to cost very little in the isk factor as i like to pew pew to much. 01101111 01100110 01100110 01100010 01100101 01100001 01110100 00100000 01100011 01110010 01100101 01100001 01110100 01101001 01101111 01101110 |

Changes to the game usually affect the market.

Actually in a working economy you need sinks too. If something keeps on adding to the game it's value aproaches zero.

If it costs more to manufacture you can ask more from the item. If this change would be made, perhaps the copying could be changed to compensate the time spent researcing ME/PE.

Yes, new BPO' keep entering the game, however some are lost for other reasons.
1) People taking a break from the game, leaving their BPO's in there hanger then never coming back.
2) Banned accounts.
3) People switching roles ( a lot of manufactures end up mission running or ratting in 0.0 as its more profitable) and keeping hold of there BPO for there own supply or in case they switch back. My main has about a 100 BPO's left from when he was the main production character for is old corp that folded.
The demand for BPO's also keeps increasing. a) The number of player keep rising and they all need ships built b) As the number of Tech2 BPO's is not increasing the amount of tech1 BPC (made form BPO's) has to increase to support the increasing demand for tech2 ships and items.
Also your waste calculations are off. ME and PE are factional so the closure you get to perfect the less each level achieves. ME 1 for example halves the current default waste (at 10% on an un-researched BPO) to 5% then next one only reduces it to 2.5%. The formula is something like waste= base waste/ME.
Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

well in short its waste = baseWaste/(1+ME)
otherwise me 0 would cause a div0 and me 1 would change nothing.
