True enough, and I was hopeful to see something during those couple of weeks, but like most of us, I figured it was a given that we shouldn't expect to see anything turn up during the holidays.
It comes when it comes.

Edited by: Aloriate on 05/01/2010 16:38:20 I'm currently working on a Dream background for Deskscapes from Stardock that shows my Navy Issue Apoc warping. I have also created a professional screen saver with all of the Amarr ships that has a clock and calendar on it. If anyone is interested, I can provide the files for free.
I have also thought about a complete EVE Online theme for the Amarr using Stardock's theme creator. I have the professional tools, but it may take a little while. That is if anyone is interested.

It's not a simple file.
It was mentioned at Fanfest that the files were huge, multiple gigabytes because they were high resolution raw AVI loops that they were using. They need to be edited, compressed uploaded and hosted.
I'd rather they work on the known issues list in all honesty. It'd be nice to have the wallpapers, but I'd rather play Eve.

why not just post the high res files and let the community do the work? I know id be willing to go through a few tutorials to get it done. Even you would be amazed by what the community can do

Perhaps a day if the files are that big but you just leaves a PC unattended over the weekend doing the processing. Multiple gigabytes is nothing in today's world. Just upload it and let us fans compress it if needed.
The hard bit has already been done in creating the videos. They can either upload the file as it is or just compress it and upload.

It is for those people who have throttled or capped connections. Luckily I'm not one of them.

Compression and uploading takes manpower, manpower they probably don't have right now while they're stabilizing Dominion.

Verone said "Compression and uploading takes manpower, manpower they probably don't have right now while they're stabilizing Dominion." Since when do the video and art guys work on stabilizing and coding that's just crazy. As for man power what do they need all of 5 minets of man power if that? Let's see it should go something like load video file into program, set new format, press covert, walk away, come back x hours later. Now upload file, walkway and come back x hours later and post link. All done.
That's the long version as well they could just shorten it down to. Find file, upload file, post link. Let fans covert file.

It's most likely on a list of things to do, and not seen as a priority over completing the current expansion, which is not over yet. There are still more patches forthcoming.
Instead of whining like a child because you don't have it, why not just wait for them to release it?
They said they'd be releasing it when Dominion was done, players boo-hooed about Dominion's features and some of them got canned for a rethink and are due to be released soon. Therefore, Dominion is not done yet.
Yes, it only takes half an hour or so of manpower to set it up on a machine to render and compress, but that's a machine that many potentially be put to use at some point for something else for upcoming features, and half an hour that a member of staff might not have, plus whatever time it actually takes for them to find where they actually put the video files.
It's probably simply a matter of it not being a priority. The live server and its stability are far more important.

Edited by: Pottsey on 06/01/2010 13:05:43 Verone you don't seem to have any concept of departments or how staff only work on certain things. The people, computers and department working on Dominion's features are not the same people, computers and department that work on videos. Didn't CCP say they have a staff that do nothing but work on videos and stuff like that? EDIT: If I recall correctly from fan fest that are at least 3 staff in the video deparment.
For the most apart you don't move machines about using them for different things. You don't give the video edit machines to the coding staff so they can code features. You don't give the codeing staff machines to the art guys.
Video editing machines and video editing staff are not going be used to work on upcoming features or to stabilise the server. Just like the art guys are not used to keep the server hardware stable.
I am whining like a child. I am asking for an update on why something that seems very simple, requires like time to do has not been given to us after the expansion like CCP said. ______ How to Passive Shield Tank T2

While I'm not claiming to be the god of how to run a computer games company, while clearly you claim to be, I'd say I have a pretty good knowledge of how CCP puts things together.
Originally by: Pottsey The people, computers and department working on Dominion's features are not the same people, computers and department that work on videos.
I didn't say they were, what I did say is that with Dominion being split into multiple patches because of the whining about supercapitals, they may have temporarily drafted people in from other departments and allocated their resources to complete the deployment of the expansion.
Originally by: Pottsey Didn't CCP say they have a staff that do nothing but work on videos and stuff like that? EDIT: If I recall correctly from fan fest that are at least 3 staff in the video deparment.
Yes, afaik there is a team that works on it, but they're responsible for more than just videos. They have a hell of a lot of work to do.
Originally by: Pottsey The reason for the delay was the staff was working on the Dominion trailer which took priority. The Trailer is out now.
I'm sure they have much more pressing issues than finding and rendering a few videos because half a dozen people are blubbering on the forums about them. I want the videos too, but I'm not acting like a crying spoiled child. When CCP have the time to do so, they'll release them. I'd much rather see them all working on the game itself.
Originally by: Pottsey For the most apart you don't move machines about using them for different things.
I'm just going to say "lol" to this, after assisting building and stripping three of the sets for three alliance tournaments and seeing JUST how much of the office goes into getting the tournament broadcasted to the playebase. It's a massive undertaking, and that's just for a tournament. Imagine an entire EXPANSION. If they need the resources, I'm sure they'll move machines around. They'd be stupid not to.
Originally by: Pottsey I am whining like a child. I am asking for an update on why something that seems very simple, requires like time to do has not been given to us after the expansion like CCP said.
Like I've said, continue whining like a kid. You'll get your videos when Dominion is fully deployed. At present, it's not.
I don't see what's so hard to grasp about this concept. CCP are busy working on the game that thousands of people pay to play, why should they change their schedule in any way mid deployment just for you and half a dozen other people that want something that has little to no priority in the grand scheme of things.
Patience is key, I want the videos too. I loved the looped videos so much that at Fanfest when the presentations were over I asked if the 26 members of our corporation who went to Iceland could have our photo taken together in front of the Amarr station backdrop.
Again, quit whining. Other people want them too, and CCP will release them when they're ready.
