99% Males and 1% Females play this game.
In R-K we have 3 girls.

What other corps have a decent amount of girls in their ranks?
Tbh, it does take a certain type of girl to survive corp chat and Teamspeak, luckily for us we got 3 of them :)

I think Evol has 4 active girls and a few sleepers.
Most girls however cant pvp themselves out of a paperbag in EVE, I rather kick ass alone or in a corp and gain respect like that.
There is a girl pvp corp I think, too bad they let their bf's make the website.

Its is a sad state when we have players from all nationalities (including Chinese) and backgrounds yet the female populous is a meagre 1%.
Maybe CCP could get together with some of the feminine product companies and advertise with them.

EVE is a pure sci-fi game.
A very numbers heavy game.
A very PvP oriented game.
Sorry to toss out steroetypes here, but is it surprising? Not saying women are bad at any of that, but stereotypical as it may be, none that I know find any of that fun, including those I knew who played other MMOs. Plus, there's not a single article of clothing to be bought
edit: oops, what I meant is that I don't know any women who find ALL of that fun. I have known female PvPers, and female math/sci majors, as well as female sci-fi buffs. They're rare, though. So the combo of a woman being into all three is exceptionally rare.

I don't know about "most", but some I know do play male characters for that reason. Most female players I know are from UO, I know just a few in Eve. Too bad I mistook Eve for a roleplaying game during character creation and did what I always do - flipped a coin. I have really regretted that since last few months as the IRL virgin dudes have brought their phobias more and more into the community. Somehow it seems too complicated for them to understand that not everything in life is about sex at the point one can have as much as one wants, and playing a role different from yours - even that of opposite sex - is not necessarily a sexual statement of any kind. Oops, got into ranting - better stop now.
There are much more women playing Eve than we know of. Statistics don't lie.
P.S: Yes, I could always start a new character. Deleting 17 million skillpoints is a very tough decision, though. I don't think I can bring myself to it. Adding injury to insult, my alt with 8M skillpoints came out as a female as well. Instead of deleting them, I keep having this illusion that someday the community will slowly start to change for the better and people would be more interested in having fun than stroking their own underdeveloped id.

To be honest i think most men wish their wives/girlfriends played eve... that way they won't ignore you for the rest of the week when you have spent the whole weekend with the computer rather than with her....
I do know though that if my gf played eve i would have to be on my best behaviour.... no swearing in local, can't slag her off in corp chat, couldnt use her as an excuse for going afk, would have to do the 'man thing' should another bloke square up to her (yes she would still expect it even if i were in a frig and the other bloke was in a bs). well besides myself we have one other female who plays regularly.
as for women playing male characters...doesnt suit me at all....when i first started playing i used one of my husbands alts and it was to weird. yes my husband and i both play but we are not in the same corp, and he also threatened to delete my character over a conversation i had with a friend of mine who also plays.
but if a female wants to play a guy that is certainly her option and right to do so....it does cut down on the im-not-gonna-pod-you cuz your a female attitude, or here-let-me-help-you-with-that so you dont break a nail. personally i play the game because i like it and have fun blowing stuff up. but in r/l im somewhat of an odity anyways, but does it really matter who is on the other end of the keyboard....so long as you are having fun playing the game

We had Hekate in our team. First evening (fighting Celestial Apocalypse) was too much for her little heart i think - she quitted EVE . But she has a nice spotlight scene in the Celestial Apocalypse video: warping out in a Scorpion on fire!

and they create these chars in there own fantasy image, im not saying all male players in this game are like this, just 99.9%

Actually thats an interesting point. Playing the PS/2 game, champions of Norrath with a friend, and his girlfriend, she really wasn't interested in it until we went to the shop for the first time and she could discover that the characters could be customized.
Now I can barely play Eve for her demanding they visit me and play games on my PS/2.
It warms my heart every time a chick is turned to gaming. :)
The point is, if we want this thread to be a bit longer, hot pink throaxes might be a necessary evil.

Actually thats an interesting point. Playing the PS/2 game, champions of Norrath with a friend, and his girlfriend, she really wasn't interested in it until we went to the shop for the first time and she could discover that the characters could be customized.
Now I can barely play Eve for her demanding they visit me and play games on my PS/2.
It warms my heart every time a chick is turned to gaming. :)
The point is, if we want this thread to be a bit longer, hot pink throaxes might be a necessary evil.

In homeword 2 you can have a custom logo on all the ships on your fleet and choose the main colour as well as a highlight colour. My fleet has a hello kitty logo and hot pink ships with light blue striping the reason being that people love to be beaten by ships with those colours.
Wish it could be done in eve too.

why do a lot of men always try to find this out???
if someone actually wants or doesn't want to tell you they are male or female, then that's their business
One thing these kind of threads convince me is that we'll never really know how much women really play, simply because most men are too nosy, and i think that's why most will not state their true nature (and reading some of this thread, who can really blame them)
I mean, would you honestly tell someone you only know online tell something personal which could very well lead to unwanted attention? i wouldn't, and a block/unblock option doesn't change that.
Me personally? I've met 2 persons in 1,5 years of EVE that told me they're female. i trust them in this, and that's enough for me (hey, i didn't ask them to tell me)
I am convinced that the percentage is higher then that 1%
A word for suspicious guys who want to know what they are dealing with for sure: Webcam
