I have been looking through the stats of several items in the game and noticed something really odd when it comes to Energized platings. They do about the same thing as resistance plating, with about the same values, but the energized ones have higher requirements, use cpu and cargo space. What is the deal here? What's the point? I think they should also add a % of hit points so they are actually advanced armor plates, while the resistance ones remain what they currently are. I believe this game can use more devices that give a combination of perks. I'm sure Energized platings at some point may have been meant to be something like that.

You have essentially 3 different resistance armor plating types you can use:
* Armor Hardeners * Energized Plating * Resistance Plating
Hardeners are the best, with highest resistances, but they also require energy to run. Shield hardeners work the same way. Resistance plating use passive resistances and low requirements. Shield resistance amplifiers work the same way.
In between these two alternatives the armor tankers also have energized plating to choose from. Energized plating is better than resistance plating, but worse than armor hardeners. They have very good stats given that they are passive, and therefore they also have higher fitting requirements.
Energized plating is typically used on high end smaller ships that can support more than resistance plating but don't have enough cap to run active hardeners, most T2 frigates and T1 cruisers for example. EANMs (Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane) are also popular on all ships as they work like a passive invulnerability field for armor tankers.

Non energized use no CPU while energized use a lot of CPU. Non energized give less defense but require less skill to equip.

I use the one that give blanket resistance to every types of attack. The energized and resistance variant pretty much give the same amount. In fact i ended up using the resistance one because it give slightly more.

T1 Adaptive Nano Plating: 8% resistance to all types T1 Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane: 15% resistance to all types
To me it sure looks like the EANM is a lot better...

Yes, as long as you have the CPU to spare :)

t2 adaptive plating > any t1 energized w/o using any cpu -.- - putting the gist back into logistics |

Alright people, i was mistaken about the difference, energized is indeed superior when comparing the same meta level of each devices... I guess i should check and double check before posting new suggestions of that kind.
