Edited by: Xionte on 20/10/2009 22:08:21 first off i live in the UK and would prefer to stay here for my education then go where the work is
for the past few weeks at college i have been filing out my UCAS form to apply for Uni, on this you are allowed to enter 5 choices. my colleger course at the moment is BTEC National diploma ICT Practitioners (getting Distinctions in every unit so far with end goal of DDD) The course i am hoping to move onto for Uni is Computer Games Programing the only problem i have at the moment is i'm not sure where else to put. does anybody know of any other places which do courses similar or the same so that i have fallbacks.
My dream job would be working as a programmer for a games company, especially CCP as they seem to have the most fun work enviroment.
as a final question can anyone tell me what it is like to study at Teeside as i don't know anyone who has been there.
Thanks in advance :)
Edit: meant to say i am looking myself as well its just they are all called different things with only slight variations and i'm kinda lost hehe

Well I'd tell you to come study at Lampeter University but I'm afraid that we only do Web Design and "Film&Media" (I'm doing Archaeology myself). On the plus side though it is a LOVELY place to live and study

Archaeology you say? They shut my Archaeology unit down at UWN.

Ssh! Don't tempt fate UWL has been going through some odd times recently, merging with *Cough*Trinity Carmarthen*cough* has really messed everything around EVEN DOWN TO THE ROOM NUMBERS

Not sure how relevant it will be but Kingston University has a BSc (Hons) Computer Science course that has a focus on games programming link

I would tell you to come here to Leicester, but we don't do game design! -----

Yeah a lot of Uni's in west Wales seem to be merging.
Do you know what they did to the Arch Unit? Demolished it and put a fashion and design department on it.
Also to the OP, UWN I think has courses in computer game design, computer game level design and modelling.

What on earth is the world coming to when an Archaeology unit can be replaced with something like that..

Game programmers (people familiar with programming engines, physics, toolsets, etc) are in extremely high demand in the industry right now. If you can indeed program then that is a great choice.

Xionte, I went to Teesside many years ago when it was a proper beer soaked Polytechnic. If you wish to natter to me about this then give me a mail in-game and I will return with my Real World eMail address.
Middlesbrough is a heck of a sheiss-hole, but venture outside and the countryside is great. The college then was fantastic, especially the Computer Science department, and I had some very excellent times there and in the Students' Union. I may even still have an unpaid bar tab for something like seventeen shillings and sixpence and three farthings, or something.

Computer Games Programming will just get you stuck, especially if you don't get a 1.
I had a similar decision, but decided to go with BSc Computer Science as it will leave more jobs open. On my second year now, and they are teaching us to program basic games and program Counter Strike bots.
