Sweeeet... both of those planets look awesome. Really good job CCP on texturing them.... I'm guessing you found EVE's first Black Hole on that last one.

They're all over the place now, and they're all procedurally generated.

There are also "sandstorm" planets, Gas Giants/Rings, new moons, and perhaps others but I didn't get to take pictures of them before the server went back donw.

Looking very nice. In my area of space they are all currently the red lava type though and some are black so its definetly not fully done i assume.

Pretty neat.
Comment for the devs: There's glowmaps at night to indicate urban development, but there's nothing on the day side except... Nothing. May be a good idea to try and make cities and stuff aswell? ;p
Also note the strange stripe through the glowmap in the lower middle of the planet in the picture.

It is my understanding, that man made structures aren't visible from space. The lights might show on the night side, but you have to zoom very, very close to see anything on the day side.

This depends on your definiton of 'from space'. Afaik the chinese wall is visible to the naked human eye from the moon (roughly 340000km away), -something- should be visible from a low orbit if there is no cloud cover.

Given the amount and density of lighting on the night side of planets, there should be at least a distinction in the structure and color of the urbanized areas. At the moment it's just pure green hills and blue water on the day side, it's far too homogenous, especially if you look at the fact that there seem to be no climate zones or poles. Planets with as little water as depicted on sisi right now would also have a lot less cloud cover aswell as a much less developed weather system due to the lack of ocean currents.
Take a look at a picture of Earth, and compare it with what's on sisi right now.
I am guessing (and hoping) that this is just a first wave and test of the procedural textures, and that the devs will be finalizing the look of the planets later on. Currently, only the ice planets look good enough, the rest needs serious tweaking.

we have lava, earthlike, ice, thunderstorm and sandstorm is all ive found so far ( all seem procedure generated each one is different size and if u look closely landmass layout is different, cloud positonl ocean coverage had one with 30% landmass mostly blue on earthlike another had one little spot of ocean and 90% green) Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

It seems that the Great Wall is not visible from the moon: http://www.snopes.com/science/greatwall.asp
However, I certainly think that man made structures should be visible when you are closer to the planet. You would think that empires that span solar systems would have cities large enough that you can see a difference in colour, or "texture", layours of city designs, etc. --- Regular lotteries for all players running at http://evelink.servegame.org/igb/ |

Yes. And it is my firm belief planets should be more than a Visual landmark in a system that you have no reason to visit. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

That is just a myth. If a wall was visible, so should be large cities. Neither are. Just head over to google maps, sattelite view and see how far you have to zoom in before manmade structures become visible.

So we are just missing gas giants and the moons atm. Any word on when we will see them? Also is something gonna be done about the ugly 8 bit nebulas? Cause they look horribly out of place now.

Planets look great!
One thing that needs tweaking is to add some color and texture variation at the poles, especially for the 'green' planets and generally for planets with water. ...

each planet should be unique as far as land mass but ye smore variance and more planet types no mars like ones yet Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

Another problem is that planets seem to lack a depth of field sometimes. Especially with the lava covered ones, because the lighting effects don't really work on the dark side since they're so bright. The planet doesn't look far away and seems more like a billboard. Noticeably varied sizes would also be nice.

i note the lava planets would be better if they had mountain ranges u could see, that would add a trick of depth to the eyeball from space even tho we cant land on the planet itself. Would make the eventual dust battlzones a bit more up and down tactical on the ground Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

Its not. If it were, you'd see every highway from space.
And, as someone said, somethings being visible from space very much depends on how close you are to it. But judging from the pics and the visit from Sisi, where you can see only coast lines, you'd only see the dome from the Truman Show from space.
So I think, CCP is fine with having no man made stuff visible on daylight sides.
