You may think the people mining with you in your corp are your friends. It may or may not be true.
We had someone join our corp recently. We put together an informal mining op. I boogied my hulk over there and we started mining. The new person showed up in a ship rigged for mining and started cutting rocks. Over time, people started dropping out of the op and the op lead had to go deal with rl for a minute so it left me and the new person alone in the belt. Admittedly my hulk was new and not fitted properly, my fault. All of a sudden, my new corp mate hits me with warp destab and starts shooting my hulk and just melting it. Before my drones had done much, I was a goner.
My corp arrived but too late for me. And my assailant had left the system blathering into corp chat about some holy jihad against the rock killers. Idiot.
The key takeaways for me are this: your corpmates can fire on you without Concord interference and beware the newbie corpmate. They may not be what they seemed. I never even checked his ship type.
Feel free to to flame me for stupidity or whatever else the trolls of the forum decree. I really don't care and I know I made some mistakes. This is just a warning to those others like me, who tried to be nice. I sacrificed a hulk to learn the lesson.

Sounds like your corp has a lot of security holes in it - unless your a director and you accepted him in without looking at his full api key, and if they did and didn't see anything wrong they might not be looking hard enough.

I would never give my API key to anyone even a corp I wanted to join.
However there are things ingame you can do to smoke out an infiltrator. A passive targeter and shipscaner (maybe on your hauler) come to mind.
If you see too many weapons, ecm gear, web/scramb on a mining fit ship, well thats pretty much a dead giveaway. Then you can set you own trap. Slowly have your guys go afk (to get combat ships; including cloaked ECM ship) once they are in place you leave a (hopefully tanked) hulk act as bait. Or you can just launch a premptive strike.

What a failure this new guy was! He could have killed a whole mining op with multiple ships, but instead he waited too long and only got one of you. He may put on the facade of pride but in his heart he is crying and among his friends he is humiliated. Mock him for his complete and utter failure as an infiltrator/saboteur. Your laughter will be the sweetest revenge.

You might want to not fly a ship you can't afford to replace.

Just goes to show you that you cant trust anyone in this game... in RL if someone gets cought for something like this they are put to death in most countries
EvE is a WilD place with few laws and no lasting punishments... unless of course the spy inflitrates your highest of high positions and steals ALL of your resources.
look at what happened to BoB for example... a few high lvl deserters caused the fall of a great empire, and looting in mass

FYI...
Looting en masse = looting on a large scale Looting in mass = stealing TVs in Roxbury after the Red Sox win the World Series

As a small mining corp you don't generally ask for the players API, that more a PVP thing. Though you would have thought you probably weren't the first person to get ganked by this guy in this manner, you should always be suspicious of people with long corp histories.
I like the passive targeter and ship scanner idea though, I must must remember that for any corp mates I'm not sure about.

Same thing happened to me, except my hulk was fitted with a web and scram. He didn't live long. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |

I'll be honest, I don't pvp, and don't care to in the slightest. I think he did a great job at playing the game. Congrats to the person that shot you down. It has happened to me way to many times but I still respect anyone who plays the game they want to.

API key is 100% safe even the full API key. It might give some intel but it doesn't expose your account in any way.

That is not griefing, that is Eve. If the devs didn't want this sort of thing to be possible, they wouldn't have put in the mechanic whereby corp-mates can aggress each other in high-sec without repercussions.

Beware new corpmates/guildmates/clanmates,...... It's been the same rule for years. This is the first game I've played where it seems like there is no PM phase, no vetting. I played with one clan where you had to play regularly on their server for a YEAR before they'd accept you. Granted, the corp I'm in doesn't let new players near the hanger or wallet, or know the location of our POS, but still... Always beware the loot*****s and pk's.

Pretty much, I would always ask members for their limited API Key so that I could check the characters on account, isk on the characters and skills. New character with a lot of isk probably an alt, mining character with no mining skills = suspicious. I also would not have any problems with giving my API Key to a director of a corp I was joining, atleast it shows they are doing something to prevent trouble getting into the corp.

There was no corp theft, he simply shot corpmates. The only way to prevent this is to have probation corp where you expect people to comit homicides. Sounds welcoming.
Luckily 11% NPC theft miraculously solves this. Right.

From all kinds of griefers and asses of EVE, this type is probably the one I hate the most.
It's really sad that someone needs to join a mining corp to get a Hulk kill. __________________________________ - Mining your own minerals doesnt drop your manufacturing costs! - Marginal earnings is what actually counts - Time is isk and enjoyment is isk aswell |
