Alright, so I'm trying to start a new corporation just so I can fly my own flag.
I came up with a name. I then, went to people and places, searched it, and found out that there were no corps of that name. However upon attemping to make a corp of that name, it was rejected as already taken. There are several corporations, that have my name, in their name, but none of the exact same name. Also, the name I want to use for my corp, IS the same as the ticker of another corp, so pherhaps that matters?
I've done some pretty extensive troubleshooting, and here's what I came up with:
1. It's not the ticker
2. I'm spelling it exactly the same as the name I type when I search for it
3. It's not the name of an alliance, I know this probably doesn't matter, but it's worth checking.
I really like this name, and I'd like to be able to use if possible. if anyone can help me, it's much appreciated.

Is it the name of a character? I believe these are also reserved and can't be used for corporation or alliance names.

Baka is correct. No character, corporation, or alliance may share the same name.

Yep, that's it. The character account has been inactive for five years, so it's kind of a shame. While I know the answer is probably no, is there any way to petition CCP to allow me to name my corp the way i'd like?

I'd put a VERY low percentage chance on a petition being successful (like 0.000001%), so I wouldn't bother - the petition system is already rather busy (best case is it would probably take weeks anyway, as it wouldn't be considered much of a priority).
Try a slight variation on the name - add something to it. Punctuation? An extra word? The name possibilities are almost infinite.

Just try a slightly more creative variation of the name, like replacing a C with a K, or vice-versa. Or you could add an apostrophe. A period at the end it also fairly common.
If all else fails, change a letter to a number.
