I am going to start a new toon. He wil be focused on pvp; I am aiming to be worthwhile with cruisers asap. I am planning, to this end, to use a Thorax.
Some questions. 1. Considering the endless nature of Eve, my initial thoughts are to get the learning skills to 4. The main reason for this is that I want to save as many of the buffed 1.6m sp's for more 'enjoyable' skills, such as cruiser 5. I believe that this would be a nice skill to get out of the way. Open to debate.
2. Considering the leap in isk from each level of implants, will I notice that big a leap from +2 to +3's, or +3's to +4's?
3. I am aware that 'supporting' skills such as Engineering etc are crucial, and I plan to remap for these with Mem/Int. However, whilst I have no problem with this; it will hamstring my ability in terms of running missions in the early days. Having plenty of grid is great, but not being able to use decent ships/weapons is not.
My overall question is how to lay a decent groundwork from the beginning. Perhaps I should not remap at all to begin with? Perhaps you capsuleers have found a good way to balance the two? Any thoughts/skillplans/flames are welcome.

My advice to you is to sit down for an hour and play with EVE MON
http://evemon.battleclinic.com/
If you dont know about EVE MON its a character training tool.
It lets you know a variety of useful things such as:
- How to reduce training time with the use of learning skills
- What affect implants would have on your training time
- How a neural remap would affect your traning queue
and much much more.......
Give it a try for an hour and it will save you days!

If you are new to pvp then you should learn how to pvp with frigates while your support skills train. Once you have the support skills, getting into, and flying a cruiser is not that skill intensive. The int/mem skills are more the intial block of skills required to pvp in the more ex*****ive ships, otherwise you will lose more cruisers then you may be prepaired to lose.

As it turns out, you'll need high intelligence but not high memory, high perception but not high willpower. A point in a primary skill is worth two in a secondary skill. Do your own EVEMon training plan and see what your optimal attributes will be.
If you have another toon, you could start by training the new one to help him. If you're a miner, get him into an industrial. If you're a mission runner, get him into a salvage destroyer. If you're a thief, have him pose as a newbie and infiltrate a target corporation. These are all good ways to get some immediate value out of the character while you wait for his skills to train up.
On the other hand if you're creating this new toon to replace your old one, then you'll want him active and earning ISK from day one. Mission running is probably the best way. That'll help you earn the standings you need to join factional warfare, which is a good way to learn PVP.

Don't train Cruisers to 5 before getting all your pertinent support skills to at least level 3. It's faster to get all your other skills to 3 than cruisers from 4-5 and will give you a massive boost compared to cruiser 5.
If isk is an issue, stick with the level 3 implants.

Edited by: Brutus Rotter on 05/11/2009 15:13:27 Here's how I got started, you need ISK to PvP in the beginning so I would suggest training battle cruiser asap, so you can run level 3 or 4 missions. Doing level 3 or 4 missions is your income sorted, I then went back to training for all of the T2 frigs. Training all the T2 frigs gives you loads of options in PvP, plus you gain most of the "core" skills on the way.
