You shouldn't be doing L1 or L2 missions for pay; you should be doing them to increase your standing so you can get to L3 agents so you can get to L4 agents. That said, go with the L2 agent since you'll gain more standings from the missions he offers. ---

It's not about pay at this level. Go with the lvl 2s so you can progress as the poster above me indicated. I think that one of the main benefits of missions is getting to +8 for clones, and that will happen faster on lvl 2 missions. Also get your socials up, which will help with faction standings and payout.
Just for grins you can try each path and give a report back. It is an interesting question, that I wouldn't have thought to ask, but I'm guessing the lvl2s would pay a bit more if it just comes down to isk.

My understanding is that there is a combination of things that effect what you get from a mission.
  1) The Agents Level. 2) The Agents Quality. 3) The security status of the system the missions are in. 4) Your standing with that particular agent. 5) How well you have trained the Social/Negotiations skill (for mission rewards). 6) How well you have trained the Social skill itself for standing increases.

So - it is entirely possible to get more money etc from a very good Level I Agent than from a Really Bad Level II agent.
The question is - just how bad or how good are they?
On average - the Level II agent will pay you more and you will get more standing increases than from the Level I agent by a good bit. It's only at the extreme ends of the spectrum that you get an overlap between the two.

Now - as to whether or not is is all about the money or grinding standings ... you will have people tell you that you shouldn't stall your race to a higher level by looting or salvaging your missions. Just grind them out as fast as you can so you can get to Level IV - then start trying to make money.
The people who say that are usually all people who already have someone making money for them and are not dependent on what they get from their Missions for their income. You have to have some money to pay for that Cruiser for Level II's and you will get a lot more money salvaging and looting your mission wrecks from Level I missions than you will from your Mission Rewards or Bounties.
A lot of experienced players tend to forget what it's like to only have one character - with no money. They're thinking of what THEY would do if they were creating a new character themselves. There is a vast difference between what is a good idea if you are relatively rich than if you are impoverished.
You are the only one who can make a judgement call on just how badly you need the money or how fast you want to advance.
Another factor - is that there are training times associated with all these skills - and if you can't afford +3 Implants and didn't have the money to spring for all your Rank 3 Learning skills while you were under 1.6 Mil. SP - then those training times are going to be a good bit longer. It is entirely possible to get into mission levels you really don't have the skills for - especially if you don't have an alt account or Corpmate Mentor that can come along in their uber mission ship and squash all the rats for you. If you are still learning how to fit and fly a cruiser - which is a lot more complicated than a frigate or destroyer - then if you jump into missions you aren't ready for - by yourself - you can easily get your shiny, relatively expensive cruiser popped - and then be back running Level I's in your destroyer trying to come up with the money for a new cruiser. Just because that veteran player could run that same mission in the same ship you got popped in without breaking a sweat - doesn't mean you can do it. Besides the skill points there's a good bit of game experience they have as well. Get goaded into rushing yourself ahead faster than you are ready for - and those vets that told you to - aren't going to be the ones paying for your new ship.
When you go to the Ships and Modules forum - you'll see all kinds of fittings described for ships - that the poster thinks are "cheap" - when "cheap" is entirely relative. Back when you think that a million ISK is a lot of money - you have a lot different perspective.
So - just keep that in mind when you get advice from veteran players. You still have to see if what they are advising is something that you have the capacity to actually do.

          ^^^^^^^^ This.
Excellent point about the salvaging of even Level 1 missions. Every ISK you have in your wallet will count as you move through this wild world of New Eden! Xephyr Cilreith CEO Forward Thinking Industries - 'Now Recruiting!' |

If you are starting then strip everything for the last ISK you can get your hands on but I wold keep on looking to jump up to the next better agent as soon as i can and as soon as i felt comfortable doing the missions.
Look at the effective rating of your agents and the higher the better When I do something stupid it's a learning experience, when you do something stupid it's comedy. |
