I've seen countless escrow scam, avoided a few lab slots scams, and it got me wondering.. what was the biggest scam in the history of EVE? I'm sure there have been a few big ones in the past, if nothing else from peoplr sneaking into corps and abusing trust to steal BPOs.

Edited by: Deepeh on 04/11/2004 11:12:09 Probably not the biggest, but certainly a very cunning scam was the one where this person set up a battleship bpo "fund" and got lots of investors in it. He would buy the battleship bpo, and the investors could have as many bpc's as they liked. He's written it down, let me search for a link...

TTI Tritanium scam wasn't a scam.
Roark set up a buy order for 1 trit for 1 billion isk, instead of 1 billion trit for 1 isk each.
He made a mistake and James something ? was quick to sell. Not a scam.

Actually it was 100 million, not a billion, or so I recall. That's definitely the funniest scam ever.
Another big scam involved TTI when they basically got robbed of everything, it was after the leadership change and some old 'sleeper' had director rights and basically took EVERYTHING, I think that was somewhere around 4 billion?

Morbor set up some pyramid scam where you invested money with him and he sent you double back, of course the extra money he sent you was someone elses money who had also signed up for the scam.
EVE-I did an article on it which pretty much endorsed the scam (though they didn't realise it was a scam) and so Morbor got a very large number of people to 'invest'. He ended up getting sick for a few days and by that time the investor community was in a panic as they had'nt heard from him and the scam collapsed early.
Reportedly he made billions of isk, one estimate was as high as 15 billion.

:D
Those were my thoughts exactly, and I said earlier, it made me sign up for EVE (in fact, I didn't even know EVE prior to reading this story).
I was already envisioning myself being an EVE overlord with bulks of isk. However, times change, and I'm nothing more than a carebear really, without any intent of scamming anyone. :p
a rl friend of mine joined eve b/c of that story, found it one day on the internet read it, came to me the next day told me about it, and how he was gonna start playing and i got to laugh and say ive been playing for over a year. ---------------

Personally I believe anyone who has to scam, even if it is with the game tactics, is a complete a-hole and should be banned for disrupting the game we all pay for. No one should have the ability to scam someone out of hard work and massive hours of game play. But, so be it, its obviously a life people choose, but it simply tells me they are hopeless pathetic lamers.
Now... who wants to enter my lotto? 1mil per ticket and in return you get your choice of 4 battleships. Please send me isk... drawing held on Christmas day.

If there is one everlasting rule about scamming, then it's that you should never pull your friends into it. This HardHead had helped him early on in the game, and that made it a no-go in my book. Scamming, griefing, etc. feels good only when you can reconcile it mentally. Like with that Thoggins guy. A thoroughly unlikable online personality.
I grief. My targets almost always justify it FOR me. Otherwise I'd start feeling guilty about it. But, you know. Your target corporation calling people in local "****'s" (knotzi, old german nationalist party) just because they are german tends to make you stop feeling sorry for 'em.

Yeah, Vegeta is correct.
How can you never buy or sell anything in Algogille and yet sell battleships there undercutting our price to **** us up? Perhaps you mean you sold them in the same constellation and therefore took possible sales away from us due to the market picking the best price available, or maybe you are talking out of your arse.
