Edited by: Vasiliy Yakovich on 04/11/2004 12:22:46 I've played most MMO's out there for atleast a month each. I still lurk like crazy on most of their forums but I must say EVE players are amongst the most arrogant bunch of twits I've ever encountered in my whole 25 years of being a nerd.
As I loathe arrogance more than anything I also must admit that when one does encounter players who are not (arrogant) they are usually amongst the most sane/fun players I've met and spoken with.
The ******* hypocritical arrogance must stop, you stand nothing to gain by being an arse.
Cheers

No they are not. For example the Morrowind, Zeus, Rise of Nations,Civilisations and Jagged Alliance 2 forums are very polite, civil and educated. Probably too complicated games for 12 year olds.

Its the alts and moderators arent hard enough. The Darkspace.net forums for example are very clean as well. People know damn well not to break the rules there ---------------------------

Everyone screws up. Everyone has different views on shipload outs etc. No one is more right or wrong than the next person. Its just alot of people seem to think they are.
And yes, these boards are better than some game boards I've seen.

I actually thought that the replies to your thread here showed a remarkably low level of flaming and abuse. It was a well informed discussion by those who contributed. (I disagree with your position by the way but don't have the time at work to post much)
There is a fair bit of flaming on this forum but thats my experience of most online boards. There is also a lot of informed discussion - I'll hold your post linked above as a good example of this.
I think my reasoned and adult response to your post is to point out that I completely disagree with your generalisations. The situation is a lot less black and white than you have suggested. Yes, there are some people who flame (and the mods do their best to moderate what is a very player-led community) but there are a lot of people who are here for reasoned discussion.
I'd suggest that you ignore the "jerks".

the main problem with these forums is the "carebear" hate "pirate" and vice versa stuff
The "pirates" want all "carebears" to PVP with them and the "carebears" all want to be left in peace to get on with how they play the game. This causes numerous totally pointless arguments.
"pirates" should go to 0.0 and shoot at every1 there cos thats what its for and "carebears" should stick to empire and mine/research/manufacture cos thats what empire is there for. If the boundaries get mixed (a miner going to 0.0 to mine and getting ganked by pirates) then there is no discussion imo. 0.0 is free for all, every1 SHOULD know that.
The thing that REALLY gets under my skin is the pirates always slating the miners etc for mining/building etc when all they are doing is playing the game they want. You dont get many posts from miners telling pirates to go and mine do you?
I wish the term carebear would be dropped. Its a ******* stupid term and pretty demeaning imo. I hate the term with a passion. Just cos they dont chose to run around and gank players doesnt mean they are any less to the game than the people that do gank anyone and anything just cos they can. Most of the pirates in this game buy stuff that the miners/builders produce anyway so if every1 went pirate where would u get the goods from?
You are correct that these boards are quite hostile and the above is the main reason imo. If the pirates would get off their high PVPing horse and look at it subjectively they would see that the miners pay the same as them, they just like to play in a different style. The same goes for the miners. If u dont wanna be ganked in 0.0 then dont go there. There is no place to moan about getting ganked in 0.0, its free for all.
But most forums do have their fair share of idiots and little kids in the community

I think Flaming is the nature of the game, and it is tame compared to other games, i think someone mentioned CS as a prime candidate, and speaking from experience, some of the inter-clan flaming in Unreal Tournament is much worse than this...
... but, i'd say taht 90% + of it is in game! Incharacter, whatever you want to call it. IRL, at fan fests and get togethers, etc, etc eveything seems great. I think ther recent Fan Fest can show that this is a strong community, and yes everthing on the boards sould be taken with a pinch of Salt! I don't deny that i love to flame FA, and the meglomanical ways, but if i met one IRL at a fan fest, i'd prolly be the first to have a chat and a b33r ...
Better board flaming than IRL flaming imho, and most people that play this game are intelligent to distinguish between the two! ... I hope

Edited by: Omber Zombie on 04/11/2004 14:26:12 To be honest, I initially avoided this forum for about 3months based solely on the fact that after asking a 'n00b' question I was flamed and ridiculed to hell and back. After a few people I spoke to about it pointed out that I should ignore it, I did. Now I am the forum warrior that you all know and love.
My suggestion to all people visiting these forums for the first time is to get that 'noob' question out of the way ASAP, and then ignore the flames that it attracts. You'll be better off for it.
Oh, and yes this forum does have a high level of flaming and arrogance, but it also has a huge amount of knowledge stored within the people posting. You just need to figure out who the 'flamers' are, and ignore their posts.
Oh, you also may want to avoid the corp forum, that's just a forum war area. ----------- "Remember people: Omber is the biggest evil ever created, DO NOT let it get to you!" Waagaa Ktlehr, BDCI

Eyeshadow, you say you want the term 'carebear' removed, and yet you also seem to be using the term 'pirate' in exactly the same way.
Not once in your post do you mention anyone other than 'empire carebears' and the 'gankers/pirates in 0.0'
You can't ask for people to stop generalising, while generalising just as much yourself. It just doesn't work that way.
And hello Sutty. .

Edited by: DeerHunter GE on 04/11/2004 14:56:01 I think you take it all much to serious... its only an game and its also only an forum. Keep on flaming about pirates.....carebears and so on. I do not identify my self with only an single minute or any action i did in this game! I spent my time with this game because i can do things i'll never be able to do in reality....including flaming about the others ships...how the fight...how they behave... People relax, don't take it this serious or you will loose the fun while playing. Ignore stupid comments or just laugh about it. If i ever lose the fun playing this game i'll leave immediately Don't ask "can i have your stuff" because i'll give it to everybody else than you! |

I think that's true also - this game has a strong appeal to two very different types of players, which causes a lot of tension. Except, seems to me that the (non-consensual) PvPers are usually much more insulting about thier differences than the PvErs (and consensual PvPers.)
