Edited by: Derisor on 04/11/2004 11:36:19 Edited by: Derisor on 04/11/2004 11:35:37 The hostility on this board is amazing. Any time someone posts an opinion about something, people seem to think that is a license to insult, debase, bash and threaten. Its patently rediculous. People here cant seem to summon up the moral courage to disagree and keep it adult. Instead the insults have to fly.
If someone posts something you disagree with or even *gasp* something you feel is wrong, why cant you people stick to the facts? Why do you have to be such jerks to people and call them names, insult them and make unwarranted assumptions? Its purely pathetic in the extreme.
Here is the way ig goes, 1) someone posts something. 2) someone replies something like "STFU noob". That is NOT adult communication. Thats childish.
The way it should go: 1) Someone posts something. 2) Someone replies, "You are wrong because of this this and that." <===That is the way adults communicate with each other. So what is the boundary? Simple. Imagine yourself face to face in a debate. If you are writing something that would get you punched in the face if you said it to them in real life then probably its the worng thing to say. If you are making insults to the person and not sticking to the facts, then you shouldt say it. If you are being elitist then you should modify your tone less you should one day commit the cardinal sin and make a mistake. If you think you never make mistakes then you should find the nearest lake and attempt to walk on water in order to unpersuade yourself that you are perfect.
With all the elitism and hostility on this board and unwaranted insults, its little wonder many trials dont actually purchase.
And ... yes ... I know Im about to get flamed for the cardinal sin of suggesting people ought to behave reasonably. Please insert flames below. --------- The words "Exciting" and "Safe" are mutually exclusive; pick one. |

You've obviously never been to your average counterstrike community board, or VN. Everything you read on the internet is to be taken with a pinch of salt..
And I really don't see how this would have an impact on subscription sales.

To be honest these forums are a lot better than some of the other one's I've seen out there, the moderation is fast and effective and people generally behave, I think.
Of course every community has their 'black sheep' - We just call them 12-year olds (which they are) and move on.
2005.04.25 16:40:42 combat Your 1400mm Howitzer Artillery II perfectly strikes LawrenceNewton [WARAG], wrecking for 2706.9 damage.

People aren't allowed to make mistakes in this game, without a gaggle of vet players shouting "n00b" at them. Sometimes the arrogance of certain players is amazing.
Everyone screws up. Everyone has different views on shipload outs etc. No one is more right or wrong than the next person. Its just alot of people seem to think they are.
And yes, these boards are better than some game boards I've seen. --------------------------------------------

It might have something to do with the relatively large influence players have on the development of this game.
Alot more then with other more regular mmo's. Any opinion overstated here and not contradicted leads to fears of nerfing something someone else considers dear.
And, next to that, the sheer amopunt of stupidity displayed here on a regular basis makes it hard to stay friendly sometimes. If you have an opinion, make sure it is based on something. Facts and experience are liked most for that.

Strange though that people cant express their disagreement without being jerks. Why is it that they are able to do that in real life but not on the internet. But then there I go assuming they can do it in real life. --------- The words "Exciting" and "Safe" are mutually exclusive; pick one. |

It's a sad fact that it's easier to be rude to a computer screen than to a person face-to-face. People forget far too easily that there's a real live person behind the avatar.
On top of that, a lot of Eve players feel very passionately about the game.
So I'm not surprised that tempers get a little frayed on these boards, but the mods generally do a pretty good job of keeping everyone in line.
