I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with NPR and the Marketplace Morning Report, but I'm going to try to do something similar, with EVE online.
The shows are going to be short, around 5 minutes long each. The first episode is under 2 minutes, mostly because it's just the prices of minerals and fuels. In the future, I'm gonna be reporting on various business news, if applicable, do comparative reports on the mineral prices (i.e. amount change per day) and perhaps even sum up quarterly reports of the larger corporations if those are made available.
There isn't going to be ANY discussion of patches, exceping in cases of affects on the market, and content as is in the Podded Podcast -- This is a market podcast and I'm not going to try and squeeze into their territory, 'cause it's a good show and I don't want to compete with them.
The show should be out between 11 and 12 GMT (which is 6 and 7 am for me).
The site's being worked on right now, but the first show is up if you're interested.

First - what it gets right.
1) Short, nice to listen to, informative
2) Very bite-sized and regular
Second - suggestions (just my own opinions)
1) Are you quoting prices according to a Jita index?
2) Have the prices changed? Hearing "Trit is up 0.1 isk per unit, currently priced at 3"
3) If someone wants to contribute, maybe let them but keep it in line with the format, small useful bite sized morsels of useful or interesting information.
This is very good, and I'll be listening to the next one.

I think you'll find that the more of these you do, the more polished you'll be able to make your delivery of them.

First off, thanks for the positive comments!
1) They were according to a market data dump I did in Jita just prior to the show. I'll experiment with the various methods and whichever ends up being more accurate/relavent I'll use as the permanent index.
2)Thats the plan for tomorrow. I'm keeping an excell document with the prices I report, then it's just simple subtraction.
3)I've got plans for future contributors, Some Ideas are interviews with leading auditors about what they look for, etc, and the process of becoming an auditor and such. I've been trying to figure out how often to do longer shows, and once a week sounds like a healthy interval. Most likely saturdays (Thanks, Ji, I'll contact you in the next day or so regarding advertising, I'm going to be busy the rest of the day till late).
Tomorrow will be a longer show because I've found the third quarter economic report for 2009. I'll do some summizing and relay the most important information to you guys.
As for the website, PodBean is a short-term solution. I'm currently working on it's own website (hand coded by me) and I'll begin posting it there when it's ready for viewing.
Again, thanks so much for the reassurances and support. It's gonna make this project way more fun for me.

It should be flash based. Update it, I know they've gone to Version 10 recently, that may be the problem.

You need to press PLAY, it doesnt start automaticallycallycal.

I would consider if you get popular, and get bandwith problems etc.
That you put up a "chip in" or paypal donate function on the site.
I wouldnt mind paying a few bucks once in a while, to keep a site as yours; updated, relevant and accessible!
Nothing worse, than wordpress and podcast services that insist on advertising breaking my immersion :p

wierd, btw i dont think its a flash player, just tested it on 2 other computers, excl my phone, so thats 4 different tests, it works fine.
its a user end error imo.
do you get a popup or something blocking it?

I think you could find a nice steady stream of ISK by picking up some sponsers and also hosting advertisements on the webpage (via IskSense perhaps).
Also, I STRONGLY recommend you immiediately put Google analytics on the whatever site you host on so that you can track how many people listen. This is very easy and I can provide you guidance on how to do it.
It'll also help you negotiate rates.

Nice idea, but useless if the prices are not even close to correct.
55.93 for isogen for example does not sound right when its stable at 49-52 (or 47-50 in non-JITA regions) for weeks now.

Firstly - it's a fun idea. I endorse it, and applaud the effort.
Now, to the critique. Please take this as it's meant: Constructive critisim.
1. Write a script before you start. Read the script, verbatim. It will massively decrease the amounts of "um" "ah" and deadair sentences.
2. As mentioned, give a "up from" or "down from" with each price.
3. If you're looking for more material, include moon goo rates. Also consider including the buy/sell: "Tritanium buying at a, up from b, selling at c, up from d"
4. In 2 and 3, give a basket price (as well as a basket up from and basket down from) - IE: the price of all minerals added together is the "mineral basket" ditto moon goo.
5. Odd music at the end, doesn't really fit the format. Personal preference - stick with more neutral, non-vocal pieces for intro, background, and outro music.
6. You're always going to have people razzing you for price inaccuracies due to time differences when they listen. Make sure the price is 100% on for when you give it, and give the eve time you're reporting the price for.
As said - you have a good voice for the project, have confidence in that. Keep the format, don't be tempted into weighing it down with news, dev blog, or other vaguely market-ish stuff.
If you intend to make this a regular project, drop me a line regarding sponsorship. This is a project I'd possibly get behind, depending on your listener numbers.

A 'market data dump [you] did in Jita' sounds like Market Order exports. Is that right? I would be more interested in the actual prices, i.e., the Market History table data.
Looking forward to hearing an episode. The default embedded podcast player fails when buffering for me (i.e., Flash 10 plugged-in, working; no sound heard). This might be related to the script-blocking and other security features I have in place, so I also tried the direct download. Both download links failed also: the 'Audio MP3' link redirects to here, and that promptly refreshes to the main podbean.com site, without kicking off any file transfer. The 'Download' link points to a page with a big 'Download Here' button, but the button does not work for me, being apparently no more than a second link to the MP3 file that fails as described already.

You liked the music better in the first one? It's sad cause those are 2 loops that I just threw in because I didn't have time to find some royalty free music. I'll axe the Ghosts songs and go back to that, it seems.
Eve weekend report for Saturday, sometime during the day. It will cover some points on the Q3 report, but I'm not going to read the whole thing.
As for mineral values, I'm going to just use the price history tab, it seems to be way more accurate than doing market reports, uploading to eve central, and downloading it.

Might want to look at http://www.eve-markets.net you can create your own "market view" pick what you want to track and read from that. Then maybe randomly pick one from the summery page..
But I like it, great idea and sounds just fine!

Please note, that in the next week or so I'm moving the podcast off of podbean and onto a wordpress blog that I'm hosting. It should make the design on the website easier to maintain and develop, and It won't cost me anything extra. Kudos to the idea, sounds great so far.
Suggestions:
Drop the price quoting. Perhaps have some sort of updated morning price on the site, as numbers are usually better presented visually.
This will give you more time of your 2-5 min show to nail bits of market related news. Or comment on specific mineral changes and possible reasons, etc.
I'd love to discuss advertisement possibilities, so feel free to contact me at your leisure.

synthesizing other's ideas:
Have a table on the page with the opening prices and daily change for all prices and include moon materials (11 advanced materials and the 12 rarest raw materials) at least until things settle down with those. Then just skip the reading of numbers and focus on the major daily moves with maybe a little history (like up 2 days in a row, or reversing yesterday's gains, etc.) and a little background on the news if you can get it.
For instance, ozone is making a major move today but I had to listen to you twice to pick up on it.
Also, don't do the minerals in alphabetical order. Highest to lowest or vice versa. And please, please, please, don't ever lead with heavy water again, I almost turned you off right there.

Utemetsu, I think you're doing a great job with these reports. There is a lot of potential in this idea- though presently you need to keep trying to polish and refine this more.
Some suggestions:
Try and reduce silent bits at the start, between segments, and at the end. The music is ok- but more than a second or two is not required.
Work hard on the "er..." and "ah..." and "umm..", as these need to be totally eliminated for long term success.

Positive Feedback on latest episode:
- Consistent and visible improvement with each and every show
- You're really nailing down the format and you've made great progress, I think you still have some ways you can tweak it but you've done great
- I personally love the intro and outro music. 
- I liked that you called out a "big mover", maybe some limited commentary around short term trends such as "x continues to rally for the 3rd straight day, up 20 isk today and 50 isk for the week, that's a 5% gain in price over a 5 day period"
Constructive Feedback:
- Instead of citing a cost something is at, I suggest saying "priced at" instead.
- Make your links clickable. Make sure you have the link in your OP and whenever you "bump" the thread. Also, slightly related...if you still need help with Google Analytics, contact me at [email protected]
- I think the weekend report is good for a more discussion based format, while the EBANK thing is being discussed right now it kind of changed the format. My gut feel is that things like that should probably stick in the weekend report.
- And I thought about it some more - MAYBE you could call out headlines or short one liners, example: "Headlines today - EBANK continues to be frozen with debt topping 1.2 Trillion. Customers continue to wait on a plan from the Board to retrieve their deposits." or "Headlines today - The Board of Directors for EBANK announces an account swap plan. Customers can swap x% of their balance for cash. Details in the following thread..."
I really like the format of the weekday shows - short, straight to the point, highly informative and briskly paced. You hit so close to the perfect tone right out of the gate which is why I think you've received so much positive feedback. Again, great work and keep it up!

Ok, so I've been doing the program for about 2 weeks now. I think that it's improved
since I started doing it, and I hope it continues to do so. Some upcoming changes:
A) I'm going to add moon minerals to the daily value readoffs and graphs.
B) I'm going to add the remaining materials required for fueling a POS.
C) I'm going to create a special basket price, the POS basket price, which is the
average cost to run one Control Tower (avg cost of running one of the four standard towers) for 1 hour without any structures.
I expect these changes to be implemented late this week or early next week.
It is for these reasons (which are going to add at least 45 minutes to my morning process) that I
am opening 2 sponsorship slots to the first people who want to purchase them. They are now 350 million
ISK per month. Current sponsors, there are no changes to cost. To reiterate, sponsorship
grants you 1 mention per show (which is at least 1 per day of the month).
Current sponsors: Please be sure to renew your sponsorship status at least 1 week in advance of the
expiration of the month to 'lock in' your current rate. If I don't recieve payment the slots will be
open to the general public again (you can still get it, it's just going to be 350 million).

I like the show, good idea and well delivered.
Not sure how serious you take the audio quality but just a couple suggestions on that point:
-A pop filter over your microphone can really help to smooth out sharp vocal distortions (and they are cheap!)

-An inline compressor / limiter / EQ can basically make you sound professional radio quality. Especially when paired with a decent Mic. All these things can be bought for a couple hundred bucks. If you need any advice or help with these kinda things let me know, I'm an audio engineer.
-Lastly. Picking the right unobtrusive background music I feel is important. In my opinion the lead out track you've used is a bit jarring and abrasive for this kind of program, but again that's just my opinion.

I've opened up two more slots. When I started doing the show it took me anywhere between 10 and 15 minutes to get the data, and another 10 to record. That's doubled. I take all numbers by hand from the market data viewer in-game, and take the screenshots, crop those, put all the values in a spreadsheet to calculate percentages, and then read and record.

Actually, without writing my own software program to read and extract information from the market dumps, the hand writing isn't difficult, just takes a little while. The part that takes the most time is taking the screenshots of the graphs and then cropping them in photoshop. Takes more time than any other part of the process.

Just started listening to these - really awesome! Its nice to have a daily price readout as I drive to work.
As for background music, I'm fairly ambivalent. Both were pretty good, and I don't think one necessarily sounds more professional than the other. The Dec 7 show's was a little too loud, though, FYI - it was starting to compete with your voice a bit.
Otherwise, great show, and glad its out there!

I Liked the show today, thought the music was was just right in terms of level and choice of tunes.
The weekend show was excellent, would love to see more like that. I have to admit i'm not that excited about getting mineral prices etc as its not that relevant to me, but i like the concept and its fun to listen to. Throwing in a few MD news items if there are any makes it more interesting.

1) Any chance to shrink the market screenshots about 5-10%? They're currently not fitting in a maximized FireFox under 1920x1200.
2) If possible, normalize volumes on multi-person discussions (dunno how bad the post-processing is). Pulling up the current weekend report, I had to place it on hold as I'll need to find headphones in order to hear Ray.
As to suggestions: 'Standard' weekend reports could be done as an 'end of week' summary, similar to Lou's opening monologue on the old Wall Street Week. It allows for reasonable filler material on slow weekends.

Unforunately, That was a mistake on my part. He was quiet coming into the recording software, and in post production I went through the whole show selectively raising his volume, and it was still quiet. I apologize for that.

Quite honestly, With LaVista Vista's extremely generous help with the program I doubt that I'll ever have a 'standard' weekend show. He has a knack for getting in touch with people who know what they're talking about. Hexxx has also been a huge help to the program; both are extraordinarily knowledgeable about anything they discuss and it comes accross well. If I had my way, I'd just ask a couple questions and let those two discuss them with each other.

Great work here. A couple of resources that you might find useful.
Have you checked out http://feedburner.google.com? I used feedburner before google bought them and it tracks all kinds of great info. about listeners.
Also as an aside, iTunes also supports 'enhanced podcasts.' An enhanced podcast lets you put images, links, and chapter markers in a podcast that can be used via iTunes. Using an enhanced podcast would let you put charts, links, and other images directly in your podcast.

I feel awful for doing this again, but there won't be a show today. The extended downtime (at it's present, 55- minute delay) gives me a half hour to do the show before having to leave for work. Again, I apologize for this, and We'll be back tomorrow for a great show.

Um... just a suggestion, but you probably should bring down the sponsorship price point of 1 week to <= 105m. Currently it is a better deal to buy 7 days at 15m each (105m) than to just get a week (7 days) straight (110m). I would think it is easier on you for folks to pick 1 week than random 7 days.

Yet another enjoyable weekend show. I've gotten into the habit of listening to it while doing the weekly house-cleaning.
Once you've covered the old topics, it'd be neat to do the "week in review" format, like get knowledgeable people on to talk about noteworthy market-related events, have large bonds/ipo makers talk about their offers, and you could still have room for discussions of bigger institutions and such.
Really endless opportunity here. Great job.
