Sentry guns fire on anything that is criminally flagged (or flagged to their corporation) that is within 150km of the object they are defending.

So, if I have a sniper fit Apoc and I'm sitting 200km off of a gate, the guns will not fire on me?

Tested: Yes, they will not fire on you. Even if you're 50km off one of the guns. They go by distance from gate/station they are guarding, not the guns themselves.
ps. guns have perfect tracking and will hit 100% of the time if you're within 150km of the gate/station

You need to be away more then 150km from the gate afaik, unless it was changed lately.
Btw if you attack sentry gun it will shoot you no matter range you are :D. Ie if you shoot sentry gun from 250km it will shoot you back.

if i understand correctly. sentry guns will hit u no mater the range but after 150 chances of hitting are greatly reduced and essentially null. right...??? ive been in lowsec 0.4 b4 248km off gate shooting ppl and not get shot from gate guns.... is it the same for stations...???

And if it's a convoy you just shot at, then your SOL, since that convoy coud be up to 500km off the station, and the guns will still hit...hard

I will answer you based on my knowledge wchich might be outdated since i havent been pirating for over 3 years so things might have been changed
1. It was possible to take down sentry gun
2. You were under fire of sentry guns meanwhile
3. Respawn time was around 1 min.
As i said, i havent played with them for a long long time, so this might not be correct nowadays.

More than likely it was changed so that now it says you hit the sentry gun dealing 0.0 damage.

Just to rehash and to confirm the confirmation that confirm... oh well.
- the range to the actual sentry guns doesn't matter
- (afaik) you can't take em out anymore
- sentry guns start to fire if you get within 150km of the object they're guarding
- sentry guns have no tracking issues, so you can't evade them by flying a small fast ship

This reminds me of a funny story...funny to me and my corp anyway. One day i was roaming around in my vexor in Ordat (low sec in amarr space) when I see this chick in a harbinger on scans. When i saw her on scans an hour later I was curious and tried to scan her down. Later i saw her on scans again and figured she must be in a plex or a mission or something because i could not find her earlier. Finally as I am about to log for the night i notice that her harbinger is sitting at zero on a gate. Apparently she had autopiloted to ordat and had been afk the whole time.
I convo her. No response. So i figure no one is home. So I begin the process of bumping her off the gate one hit at a time with my mwd fit vexor. It took me about 20 minutes of hitting her harby before I moved her 200 km away from the sentry guns and proceeded to blow her harby to pieces. Meanwhile people are coming and going through the gate including two of my war targets who I was no longer in range to catch but I really didnt care. I really wasnt sure of the range either but I had heard about 200km was clear of the guns and I couldnt tank the guns for long in my vexor so I took no chances.
Anyway, its not really related to this thread but the moral of this story, of course, is don't autopilot to low sec. Perhaps not ever unless you strictly stick to high sec and don't get war decks.
