I know this is probably the last place I should be asking for moral guidance, but I'm hoping for some good advice in with the jeering :)
I have an alt that's part of a small mining corp. The leadership of this corp is hardly ever on because of real-life stuff, the corp does almost nothing (no mining ops etc etc), there's very little communication between members, and to top it all off they have extremely poor security and are a little too trusting with who they give access to the corp wallet to (We've already had 2 thefts). I feel like the work I and the handful of others do for the corp is basically wasted.
I've voiced my concerns previously and I basically got the "We're working on it" evemail but nothing has changed.
Now...I do have access to the corp wallet, all 500 mil of it...and I have to say I'm tempted to leave and take a little severance pay with me.
At the same time, I pride myself on being honest and I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea of stealing.
So, any suggestions, ideas, comments? |

If nobody is active enough to keep a corp alive they will not miss 500mill. If i was the CEO and i logged in to find you'd swooped the isk away, i wouldn't blame you _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Edited by: Oscardoodle on 13/11/2009 02:32:50 If you have access to the wallet its likely you are a director. Make an alt, accept the alt, transfer isk to alt, steal the money with the alt, give the money to your main with the alt, biomass the alt.
Ok, that doesn't cover your tracks, i'm drunk.
Just steal it ffs!

Don't make it artificially complicated. If you're honest you don't steal. If you're a thief you do.

If you don't care about ever getting into a decent corp for the rest of your EVE career ( A good corp will check with your past CEOs), then go ahead and steal it.
But, seriously, 500mil?
That's nothing to be tempted over.
500mil and maybe a billion or two in additional assets. That might be worth it. But losing your future over 3 days earnings? That's just stupid.

500 mil is a lot for me, I'm a miner and I dont earn too much so 500 mil is a good chunk of change for me

Kalashnikov,
It's already been said, but I'll repeat it as well.
Do NOT take the money or assets - leave them be. If you can't be trusted with something as small as 500M, what makes you think you'll be able to be trusted with a LOT more?
Our corp has a base foundation of trust - and that's why we've been so successful in keeping a core of loyal members long-term.
If you need a good corp with high-sec and null-sec access. Look us up.
Though, don't bother if that 500M goes missing.

I don't see a question here. Steal it if you feel it is worth the possible consequences. The main possible consequence being that the people you steal from may wreck your reputation and possibly try to attack you or tell future corps that you join that you are a corp theft.
For me 500m is not worth the possible consequences on my main, but if I was on some dumb alt or was a new player, I'd consider it since 500m is quite a lot for a new character.
Stealing is legal in the realm of game mechanics, do it if you want; our opinion is useless in the matter.

if you are director, then do this..
Ramp up taxes to 100%, and then delete the corp mail about it. See how long it takes for someone to notice and fix/ whine. Of course, if its in a corp mail, delete it
the alt -> biomass sounds rather lol.. how does that work if people have mails sent from that character? do the mails cease to exist? what about wallet transactions.. Do you:
1) Think that if you wait longer you may be able to steal more than 500 mil?
OR
2) Consider the members you will be stealing from friends?
If the answer to both of these questions is no (and since the corp is so inactive, #1 is very likely "no"), then the choice is obvious: steal everything you can get your hands on. -----------

I've always thought that MMO's show how a person would be in real life IF they didn't have consequences. Honest people will be honest in the game. The people that are only honest in real life because of the consequences they would suffer if they weren't are the ones that would swipe the ISK. So the real question is....are you an honest person?

While I applaud your honesty, I think you have to put things in perspective. First, this is a game (which you're paying for for crying out loud), it's not real money. Who cares?
Second, stealing is part of the game. If they don't want their wallet emptied out, they should take action to keep their directors happy, which they're clearly not doing.
In the end, you'll have to make your own decisions though. Good luck!

Its your reputation, and you can likely get away with stealing that isk and no problems. Up to you. I've never stolen anything and been trusted with billions. I think it would take 10bil before I likely stole anything or was seriously tempted to.

Before you take anything, make sure you've tried to work things out with the CEO/corp first.
If it turns out you're headbutting a brick wall, might me time to take some severance pay.
I wouldnt take all the 500 mill though.
I would take a cut of what you think you're owed for wasting your time with them.

take the money, write a **** you corp mail.
find members in space and destroy them. this is what life is all about. hurting others and taking what you can for your self. the only thing that matters is yourself, no matter how nice you are you'll still die and rot in the ground.

Well, I wouldn't steal the isk personally. I think people who steal isk are driven to it because they lack the creativity to build. At the end of the day, I enjoy building and that's why I play EVE.
There is a third option.
You mentioned that your corp has provided significant access to yourself and others. Why not take the reigns of the corp and start organizing its members? You don't actually need the shiny CEO title to be the leader of the corporation. My advice would be to send an eve mail to the CEO saying that you want to help organize some events to build up activity and, possibly, recruit members. Lead mining ops, talk with active members about future skill paths, and have some pvp roaming fun. Post in the Science / Industry Forum for ideas, if you need it, on how to organize a mining corp (or even better, use that search tool).
At the end of the day, if the CEO ever tries to throw up roadblocks around you, just tell the members they have a choice - either stay with the CEO or come with you to create a new corp. Loyal friends and corp mates > 500 million isk.
Not everything in life is a binary choice.
