So ive played for about four years, perhaps even five now.
I started off mining in high sec, then moved on to ratting in high sec. Then noticed that lowsec rats were worth more, moved in there.
After i lost my first ship from pvp, i was so exhilarated by the experience i wanted to do it again. Tried the pirate thing and realized soon afterwards that people dont like me when i do that.
Joined a 0.0 corp and lived there happily for about two years. PVP'd my face off, played the role fleet commander and ive been in huge fleet battles.
Was there for the fall of ASCN, and G / IRON, the rise of bob, the fall of bob. Goonswarm... who would have thought that they'd be where they are today from the way they started out! Fought the reds, fought the five and later on LV. Then i moved from the south and stopped paying attention to whats going on down there.
Wormholes came, i moved into a class 3 on my own. Its a little tough in here, but i get by. Making some good money but i dont need it, just throwing it in the pile.
So, here i am. Today i realized that im playing just to play. Im not enjoying it anymore, im just playing because ive been doing so and its now a habbit more than anything. I thought that id ask here before i made my decision to quit.
Is there anything i can do to re-light my spark?
Perhaps i could try my hand at that faction warfare lark? Although im not sure how it works and im pretty sure its pvp for carebears. Thats about the only thing ive not tried.
Ive even got 7 million SP in industry and 12 million in science because i thought maybe it was time for the carebear builder happy time life. Apparently not...
So, EVE players. What else is there for me to do??
(Yes this is an alt. No im not a troll, just asking for some advice.)

Edited by: Tia Unger on 17/11/2009 01:38:47 Honestly; take some time off. Nothing wrong with cancelling for a few months. I have done it a few times it refreshes my MMO batteries, when I come back I have a lot more fun.
Not saying this is the only option but from what you have told us i would say take some time off.
I learned a long time ago in EQ, the day you feel you HAVE to log in, not that you WANT to log in is the day you should cancel. (at least for a while)
/not trying to run you out so I hope this came off right

You should give stuff away, or most of it, and take a break. Come back when Dominion is launched and see if there is anything you like. Oh yeah the stuff you could give me some of it, especially some of that pile you throw isk on. Sounds like you need to see what crap MMO's there are out there and you might appreciate EvE again. Fallen Earth is not so bad actually. Good luck to you.

I would take a break, and have done several times in my near 3 years playing Eve. A few months is enough to get your giddy to get back in.
Another thing you could try is producing PvP vids and try to become e-famous. Or PvP in hyper-expensive gear so you lose alot of your money. Tech 3 or faction bs might be a fun sink.

Aside from street fighter and starcraft I don't think I've gotten 4 years of enjoyment out of a single video game. Should consider it a great success and move on. You probably won't like many other MMORPGs out there since EVE has ruined you, but you can always take a 6 months-1 year break and come back and EVE should be fresh again with new expansions and DUST 514.

You've clearly hit burn out mode. I don't know about you, but when I hit this wall, it's over, I need to move on to something else.
Or, with your experience, maybe there is something worth creating. An RP corp concept or something. Biuld a corp to "take over" a piece of High Sec space...a corp so strong even CONCORD runs...;-) Just a thought.
Or a bounty hunter only corp. An anti-pirate corp. A new police force set to bring law and order to the lawless galaxy in a way CONCORD can only dream of.
The point is, if you have the drive and the time, you can create something beyond the norm and that could re-light your spark.

I'm in with the OP, honestly... I log in out of habit and need to keep the machine running than out of any pure enjoyment.
I've done everything there is to do except capital blob warfare (which I saw from the outset as nothing more than a headache) from L1 missions to T2 BPO owner to successful Inventor and WHore to trade mogul.
Now PvP is just plain broken; blob warfare and neutral alts (or just asshats) remote repping on stations for nothing more than the LOLs. I've done 0.0 war, empire war (pointless as hell nowadays), and faction war dodging blobs.
So what's in it now? There are no other games even remotely Eve quality or style out there that are new enough to break into, and none even on the horizon.

Cancel your account and quit dude. Who wants to play the same game all the time? Go find something better to do, really. Don't be one of these people that log in once a week just to spin ships and que another stupidly long skill. Your just wasting good money and time for something you longer enjoy. Taking a so called "break" from the game is goofy as well. Just quit and move on in your life lol. It's only pixels
Think of all the time you wasted on EVE and games in general. You could have got a degree or done something useful in your life
Good run though, I can't see myself putting even another year into this. It's just to tedious most of the time.

Been around 4 years also. However I still manage to find little projects for myself here and there. I usually don't play the game for a few months, but I think about the game and in this time I have new ideas formulating that I want to log in and try it out. Being able to pay for game with plexes means I don't have to cancel my account but can keep it running for skill training, so re-subscribing is never an issue of spending extra money for me. This also means that when I get back there are some new completed skill levels waiting for me.
I think the trick is in taking these occasional breaks. When I started the game I became friends with a couple of players who started the game about same time as me. I eventually dropped out for a few months, then came back, then kept going on and off on breaks like this. Some of my in-game friends kept playing EVE quite hardcore through all this time. Right now after 4 years the hardcore players have for the most part quit, and I keep going and don't see myself leaving any time soon.

How many hours/week do you play? Maybe cut back on play time and do something else.
I find EVE fits my lifestyle - I'm a busy guy (work/family/fitness) and I slot EVE in where I can as a passtime. Some weeks I don't play at all, some days I play several hours, but on average time actually playing the game is less than 8 hours per week and I enjoy it.

I have an idea! Start claiming space in 0.0! Then you get a second job that you even have to pay for! And you don't get any advantages over grinding in Motsu so it's a pretty sweet deal all round.
Also on a more serious note:
Quote: Perhaps i could try my hand at that faction warfare lark? Although im not sure how it works and im pretty sure its pvp for carebears. Thats about the only thing ive not tried.
I really can't recommend FW... better join Red VS Blue. FW is just large boring T1 blobs with bad and cowardly FCs, terrible fleet discipline and dismal fleet make-up. If you like sitting on gates to afraid to engage because you'll lose your 500k t1 frig then FW is truly the place to be.

to the op and to the people that are agreeing with him, welcome to game burnout. its really not fun either.
OP im reaching the 4 year mark myself and have burned out twice already in a big way (2-3 months off) and would highy reccommend taking a break from the game. tbh it was one thing i quite liked about ghost training, it covered those periods nicely with BS5's
but thats neither here nor there.
what you have done and achieved is pretty phenominal, muh more than my 3 years of piracy and 7 months offailing miserably to raise my sec again :)
take your break, go play sins of a solar empire, or go out and get wasted with rl colleagues and friends insteaad of eve, throw yourself into the social scene this festive season and come back to us refreshed :D there is something that keeps you interested and it is a phenominal RPG :D
my interest btw got kickstarted when i realised that i could actually invest a few hundred million in hte markets while i was grinding my sec back up. now i actually have a few bill to spend on pew pew and on enjoying myself more in game so i wont be out much this FS.
if you want to donate isk to the market fundwith a solid 10% ROI for your return just send the isk and evemail me :D then come join FW and have some moar fun :D

The answer is quite simple!
Its time for you to start your own corp.
It may sound daunting, but you must have made friends along the way who would support you.

You can take a break without quitting
For me, EVE has been a forum account fueled by ISK for the last six months. Nothing wrong with that, I say. I'll get back into it eventually, and I'll have a lot more useless level V skills trained when I do!
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

I feel your pain. I've been here since 2003 and have taken approximately 1.5 of those years off as breaks here and there. Each time I did that I thought I'd never play Eve again but here I am lol!
Eve is a harsh mistress. She'll let you wander a bit and go out drinking with the guys when you need to but eventually she'll yank that chain and reel you back. ---

A break is good I take regular breaks from all games I play just prove to myself im not addicted and get on with rl for a while etc.
But really if you have been playing on your own for the last few months i can see why your bored, eve is nothing without a good corp and group of mates who you know have got your back. Generally when I quit a game I normally miss the people I played it with more than the game itself. So i would suggest you find a corp who will be more than just a random faces in chat but real friends. Its the social stuff that takes a good game to greatness.
Of course that might not be your thing but for me all my most memorable and fun moments from the last 10 years of gaming have been with other people. Like saving your mate with timely RR, then to see him jump into high sec with a gcc and be endless ridiculed about it in vent.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you trashed your Stealth Bombers because you couldn't figure out what to put on one now you probably aren't the best person to be offering game advice of any sort.
OP, there is still a lot you haven't done, but I'm sure down deep you realize that. Sounds like the crowd you run with now (or lack thereof) is not condusive to a good gaming experience for you. I'd either find a group you can have a lot of fun with, or take that break the others have been talking about. Perhaps the CEO or Alliance leader route would work well for you, if not we'll see you when you get back.

Train T3 subsystems to lvl 5 for all races, and PvP exclusively in Strategic Cruisers. The loses are greater financially, and you stand to lose 4-5 days of training every time that you engage a target.
This just might get your adrenaline pumping again.
